Ramires´ wife hits out at CBF over husband´s omission

Islana Rose, wife of Seleção and Chelsea star Ramires, has launched a scathing attack on Luiz Felipe Scolari and the CBF for her husband´s omission from the Confederations Cup squad.

Scolari announced his 23-man squad yesterday for the tournament and Chelsea star Ramires was overlooked in favour of Bayern´s Luiz Gustavo and Grêmio´s Fernando.

But Islana Rose was not impressed by the decision to drop her husband and took to social network Instagram to express her disbelief.

"Today is just another mediocre and injust selection from the Mafia. Congratulations, CBF! Congratulations, Brazil. This is why we are not and will never be the best in the world!"

Ramires himself was more diplomatic about the omission, despite being a regular inclusion in Felipão´s squads.

"I´m in a great moment in my career and it was a huge desire to be competing for the Confederations Cup. I´ve never had any indiscipline in my career.

"My history leaves no room to question my will to defend Brazil. But I will respect the decision and it is not for me to question the decision of the technical committee."

Palmeiras prepared to listen to offers for Valdívia

Palmeiras president Paulo Nobre has admitted that he is prepared to listen to offers for Chilean midfielder Jorge Valdívia.

Valdívia played for Palmeiras from 2006 to 2008, when he moved to Emirati side Al-Ain before returning to the Brazilian club in 2010 for around 6 million Euros.

There were big expectations about what he could do for the team, but he failed to live up to the hype, and struggled with injuries.

As an expensive player that rarely plays, calls to sell him have increased, and a return to Al-Ain nearly happened last year.

A move could be facilitated now, following Palmeiras´ defeat in the Round of 16 of Copa Libertadores.

The club´s president Paulo Nobre told reporters after the game: "We missed Valdívia, he is a very creative player, but is having many annoying injuries. He has a long contract with the club and keeps working."

"But no players are non-negotiable, and that includes him. If an offer that is interesting for him and for Palmeiras comes, it´s natural that negotiations happen. But for now Valdívia is our player and we want him to be ready to help the team."

No habrá fútbol el sábado 25 de mayo

BUENOS AIRES -- El Comité Ejecutivo de la AFA anunció que el próximo sábado 25 de mayo no se jugarán partidos de fútbol en el país.

La medida es una consecuencia de los actos que se realizarán con motivo de cumplirse un nuevo aniversario de la Revolución de Mayo de 1810, como así también una década de la llegada del kirchnerismo al poder.

De esta manera, la decimoquinta jornada del Torneo Final se desarrollará entre el viernes 24, domingo 26 y lunes 27 de mayo.

Por esta razón, la decimosexta fecha que estaba prevista para jugarse entre martes, miércoles y jueves, se pasará para el siguiente fin de semana, entre el viernes 31 de mayo y el lunes 3 de junio.

Con esta modificación, la decimoséptima jornada del campeonato se jugará a pesar de las fechas FIFA por las Eliminatorias Sudamericanas para el Mundial de Brasil 2014.

Es decir que, como Argentina recibirá el viernes 7 de junio a Colombia en el estadio Monumental y el martes 11 visitará a Ecuador en el Olímpico Atahualpa de Quito, la decimoséptima fecha de la competencia doméstica se disputará entre el sábado 8, el domingo 9 y el lunes 10 de junio.

Por lo tanto, habrá que esperar para saber qué resolverá el seleccionador Alejandro Sabella acerca de los futbolistas locales que suelen sumarse a los que vienen de clubes europeos.

Es más, se trata de una instancia en la que Sabella tenía previsto conformar un plantel con un total de 27 jugadores para asumir esos dos compromisos oficiales.

J. Caicedo: "Tengo que marcar goles"

BUENOS AIRES -- El delantero colombiano de Independiente de Avellaneda, Juan Caicedo, afirmó que viene haciendo "buenos partidos", aunque necesita "marcar", al referirse a su desempeño donde jugó seis partidos de titular, entró como relevo cinco veces y aún no convirtió ningún gol.

El colombiano Caicedo además de hacer una autocrítica rescató la levantada del equipo en las últimas tres presentaciones: "lo importante es que estamos sacando buenos resultados y llevamos tres partidos sin perder".

Respecto del empate del domingo pasado contra Lanús, el atacante afirmó que "el punto sirve. Fuimos a buscar la victoria, pero se dio un empate. Creo que suma".

Finalmente, el colombiano afirmó que el encuentro del domingo con San Martín de San Juan es "definitivo porque ellos vienen detrás nuestro", para agregar que "va a ser casi un partido de 6 puntos".

De Paul: "Entrar en la Sudamericana"

BUENOS AIRES. - El mediocampista de Racing Club de Avellaneda, Rodrigo de Paul, habló por ESPN Radio en Rivadavia.

"No supimos liquidar algunos partidos o definirlos, por eso tenemos menos puntos de los que deberíamos tener".

"De mitad para adelante me siento bien en cualquier lado. Lo que me pide el técnico siempre es similar, que genere fútbol y me asocie con mis compañeros".

"Sand es un gran profesional, siempre está trabajando y nos aconseja mucho".

"El objetivo ahora es la Copa Sudamericana y terminar de la mejor manera el campeonato para hacer un año redondo".

"Antes de empezar el campeonato solo pensé que podía jugar de enganche, pero Zubeldía encontró otra posición para mí y me siento muy cómodo. Trato de rendir al máximo".

"Sería raro que falte Independiente. Es un equipo grande y nunca se fue al descenso. Ni mis compañeros ni yo pensamos en lo que le pueda pasar a Independiente. Trato de no escuchar las cosas que dicen, sólo pienso en hacer buenos partidos".

"Me pude adaptar bien al grupo y logré tener continuidad".

"Cada uno de nosotros es bueno en sus funciones. Si hay que poner garra, el mejor es Zuculini".

Atlético Mineiro star Bernard says Ronaldinho congratulated him on Brazil call-up

It has been suggested in Brazil that the inclusion of Atlético Mineiro star Bernard in Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad for the Confederations Cup came at the expense of his teammate Ronaldinho.

However, the young forward played down the possibility of jealousy from the former Barcelona star by saying Ronaldinho has congratulated him on his inclusion.

He told Lancenet: “Ronaldinho, he arrived today and congratulated me, he is happy. He is not down.

“I respect the decision of Scolari, he has tried to do the best for Brazil. Ronaldinho is a smart guy who has won so much. He will not be disheartened, he knows the importance of the championships we´re playing for at Atletico.”

Bernard, who has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund this week, is a huge fan of Ronaldinho but was keen to stress his respect for Scolari and the decision he has made.

“I respect the decision of Scolari, he wanted the best for the Seleção and has called a team he hopes to have a positive result.”

Bernard is not the only Atlético player included in the squad, with defender Rever also being called up for the tournament.

“He [Ronaldinho] congratulated me, said he is happy for me and Réver and said that we were deserving for what was doing at Atletico, not only him but the whole group was happy for me and Réver being chosen.”

Agent of Neymar denies the Santos star will leave this summer

Neymar is likely to stay at Santos until after next year’s World Cup, according to his agent, Wagner Ribeiro.

Santos are believed to be open to selling the player this summer and club vice-president Odílio Rodrigues is reported to have been in Barcelona this week discussing a deal with the Catalan giants.

But Ribeiro, who met with the 21-year-old and his father on Tuesday night, dismissed the notion that his client will move to Europe this year.

He told Globo Esporte: “He does not leave now. We did not talk anything about this journey of Odílio, who was with his wife, and we did not speak of Barcelona.

“He can talk (with Rosell), but who decides the player´s life is the athlete and his father. If Santos want to sell the player now, and he does not want to go, he will not.

“Now he does not want to leave. He´s thinking about Sunday´s game (against Corinthians) and the Confederations Cup.”

Ribeiro also revealed that both the player and his father would rather stay until after the World Cup, as has been previously reported, when the player can leave Santos for free. However, the pair

“I do not believe (they will change their mind). He has a contract that requires him to stay (until 2014) and it has advantages if he leaves (after).

“But his father wants to leave Santos and the economics. They are not ungrateful and will leave something for the club if he goes for free.

“The parent can make the new club something to indemnify Santos in 2014. Not the amount of the buyout (€ 65 million, approximately U.S. $ 169 million), but something that is good for Santos and Neymar.”
