Luiz Gustavo and Dante happy to be playing for Seleção despite controversy

Seleção stars Luiz Gustavo and Dante have admitted that they are happy to miss Bayern Munich´s DFB Cup final showdown in favour of gaining a place in Luiz Felipe Scolari´s squad.

The duo were called up to face England and France in friendlies and will be playing at the Confederations Cup after outrage in Germany over the call ups.

"We are happy for us to fulfil a dream and play in a tournament for the Seleção. There is no grief over the missed DFB Cup final," Luiz Gustavo told Kicker. "They have not exactly checked the calendar."

"We have made it clear that playing for the Seleção has a different value for us. It is a dream which we fight for from a young age," added Dante.

Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber had earlier blasted the decision of the Brazilian FA, insisting there was no justification in forcing the Bayern pair to miss a showpiece final in Germany.

"I just thought it was an April fool. The behavior of the Brazilian Association is inhuman," the 40-year-old told Sky Sports.

"This is not just any game, it´s a final, it would have been possible for both to contest the final game of the season and then happily to fly to Brazil on Sunday!"

Fans protest against Brazil FA president José Maria Marín

Fans have protested against the Brazilian Football Confederation controversial president José Maria Marín during the national team´s training practice at Flamengo´s Gávea stadium.

The fans are members of a group called Frente Nacional dos Torcedores (National Front of Fans), which opposes Marín.

They brought banners demanding that Marin leave the Brazilian FA and that he be punished for his alleged crimes.

José Maria Marín is accused of having tortured the opposition during Brazil´s military junta regime (1964-1985), he is most notably believed to have been involved in the death of journalist Vladimir Herzog in 1975.

The Brazilian FA president also stole a medal that was supposed to be given to a player after the São Paulo Youth Cup tournament in 2012.

Protests will take place in Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro during the weekend and more are being planned for the future.

José Maria Marín replaced Ricardo Teixeira in 2012, as his predecessor alleged health problems to resign amid accusations of corruption.

Floripa på vej tilbage?

Figueirense maintain perfect record in Serie B with victory over Sport

Figueirense made it three wins out of three in Brazil’s second division, as they beat Sport of Recife by three goals to two in an entertaining game.

Midfielder Maylson gave the Florianópolis side the lead after just five minutes, as his powerful right foot shot was too much for Sport ‘keeper Magrão to handle.

The lead was doubled when Maylson was pushed from behind in the area by Felipe Azevedo. The resultant penalty was converted by Rafael Costa, placed accurately into the bottom right hand corner.

In the second half Sport mounted their come-back. Centre back Gabriel Santos leaped to nod home a Lucas Lima free-kick, then just minutes later the equaliser came from another set piece as Rithiely headed in Marcos Aurélio’s corner.

Then, in a thrilling end to the match, Rafael Costa pounced to score his second goal of the game and win the game for his side.

Full back Wellington Saci delivered a dangerous ball from the left, which was flicked on by substitute Pablo, before Costa was on hand to head the ball home.

Three teams from the state of Santa Catarina currently occupy the top three places in Serie B, but this is unlikely to remain the case for long as favourites Palmeiras play their game tonight versus América Mineiro.

England starting XI: Hart; Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines; Walcott, Jones, Carrick, Lampard, Milner; Rooney.

Brazil starting XI: Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, David Luiz, Luis Filipe, Gustavo Luiz, Thiago Silva, Paulinho, Oscar, Neymar, Hulk, Fred.
Irriterende når Luis filipe bliver navngivet som "Filipe Kasmirski" i startopstillingen på soccernet. Der melder jeg sku blanko. Ellers et talentfuld hold.
Og et uhyggeligt forsvar de efterhånden har!
