Sills dejará Vélez por U de Chile

SANTIAGO DE CHILE -- El defensa argentino Juan Ignacio Sills anunció el jueves que está a punto de cambiar a Vélez Sarsfield por la Universidad de Chile.

"Estoy tranquilo, confiado en mis condiciones. Jugué de volante, de zaguero central, así es que voy con muchas ganas, sabiendo lo que puedo jugar y con la mentalidad de ganarme al grupo y hacer un buen papel para ganar todo lo que se viene", dijo Sills a la chilena Radio Cooperativa.

El zaguero, de 27 años, ha tenido pocos minutos de juego en el último campeonato argentino, en el que ha sido titular en seis ocasiones.

Consideró que su nueva etapa en la U es "un desafío muy bueno e interesante".

"Es un club muy grande en América y tiene muchos compromisos para este semestre", señaló.

José Yuraszeck, el presidente de la U, anunció el miércoles que llegaría un refuerzo para su equipo "de renombre y experiencia", aunque no había revelado el nombre del futbolista elegido.

El zaguero ya conoce al que será su próximo técnico, su compatriota Darío Franco, quien fue su entrenador en el Instituto de Córdoba en 2011.

En ese equipo coincidió, además, con Ezequiel Videla, que también juega en el conjunto chileno desde el año pasado.

Sills aseguró que el sistema de juego que propone Franco, muy criticado en Chile durante el primer semestre del año, da buenos resultados, aunque "necesita tiempo".

"No es raro, pero necesita tiempo y luego de tomarle la mano aparte de dar espectáculos, da resultados. Creo que si el grupo está bien y confía en el técnico, se puede ganar mucho", apuntó.

Sills disputará este fin de semana su último partido con Vélez Sarsfield y se integrará a la pretemporada de la U el próximo 30 de junio.

Uruguay, looking for third place in Confederations Cup

The Uruguayan national team watered the field of play in Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte with their blood, sweat, tears, effort and hard work on Wednesday. Led by Edinson Cavani, Diego Godín and Egidio Arévalo Ríos, they played their hearts out and ended up losing in a game they could have won due to a defensive error four minutes before the final.

Fred, lethal scorer for Brazil, scored at 42 minutes, and midfielder Paulinho appeared alone at the second post to score by heading the ball in after receiving it from a Neymar corner kick on the left side. This goal at 86 minutes gave the victory to Brazil, and they are now going to their fourth Confederations Cup championship game, after winning it all in 1997, 2005, and 2009.

Brazil "played cautiously and they won because of a error that we made in our defensive arrangement", the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, stated.

"We lost track of our defensive assignments on Neymar´s corner kick and Paulinho appeared alone to head the ball in at the second post", he explained.

"We all know [on the Uruguayan team] that this game could have been won by either team and we had the victory in reach", defender Maxi Pereira, of Benfica (Portugal), told the AFP. He needed to ´fall on the grenade´, cover Neymar, and for various lapses of time controlled FC Barcelona´s new star.

Uruguay made people think of the team that won the 2011 Copa America in Argentina and ended up fourth in the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

Now, the team that has been directed by Oscar Tabárez since 2006, will have to play for third place, a new experience for them. Up to this point under his command they have always reached the semifinals, as in the 2007 Copas Americas in Venezuela (fourth), and in Argentina in 2011 (first) and inthe 2010 World Cup in South Africa (fourth).

They wait to know who they will play - the loser of the game to be played this Thursday in Castelao stadium in Fortaleza. The game pits favorite Spain against the Italian national squad. Uruguay will face the loser in Arena Fonte Nova stadium in Salvador.

"We have always gone out to do our best, to leave it all on the field and get our country the best results possible. We did it against Brazil and we will do it again in the game for third place", affirmed Cavani with conviction.

River: J. Fabbro llegó a la Argentina

BUENOS AIRES -- Jonathan Fabbro, el enlace con el que quiere contar el entrenador de River, Ramón Díaz, llegó este viernes al país procedente de Paraguay, donde juega en Cerro Porteño, y dijo que su intención es desembarcar en el club de Núñez pese al interés que también existe de un equipo de Brasil.

En tanto, el presidente de River, Daniel Passarella, viajó hoy a Francia para tratar de negociar el pase del marcador central colombiano Eder Alvarez Balanta, de sólo 20 años y apenas nueve partidos en Primera División.

La danza de nombres en River no cesa y hoy suenan con fuerza como probables incorporaciones, además de Fabbro, Osmar Ferreyra (procedente de Independiente), el colombiano Carlos Carbonero (de destacadas actuaciones en Arsenal) y el regreso de Lucas Orban desde Tigre.

En su viaje a Europa (también irá a Italia), Passarella también intentará vender a los hermanos Rogelio y Ramiro Funes Mori, aunque no hay que descartar que sean transferidos otros jugadores.

Fabbro llegó cerca del mediodía al país y afirmó que su idea es quedarse en Argentina y más precisamente en River. "Se habla más de la propuesta de River, aunque hay otras dando vueltas. Pero, si tengo que elegir, voy a querer venir a jugar a mi país y a River", señaló el enganche en rueda de prensa en el Aeroparque porteño.

Esas "otras" ofertas de las que habló el jugador surgido de la cantera de Boca es una del fútbol brasileño, según admitió el vicepresidente de Cerro Porteño, Carlos Sosa, en Radio 9.

El dirigente paraguayo, de todas formas, remarcó que "es muy probable que ante igualdad de ofertas se prefiera River por interés del entrenador".

Así, el camino de Fabbro hacia River, que se desmoronó en el pasado mercado de pases, parece estar recompuesto y listo para desembocar en un final feliz. "Tengo una amistad con Emiliano (Díaz), pero él habló con mi hermano, que es mi representante. Si se da lo de River, voy a estar muy contento", dijo Fabbro.

At. Madrid negó contactos por D. Díaz

BUENOS AIRES -- El presidente del Atlético de Madrid de España, Enrique Cerezo, afirmó este viernes que aún no recibió una oferta por el defensor argentino Daniel Díaz, quien es pretendido por Boca Juniors.

"No recibimos oferta por el "Cata" Díaz. Estuve de viaje, recién llego a Madrid, pero sé que no tenemos oferta por él", expresó Cerezo.

El titular del club que dirige Diego Simeone apuntó que aún no puede aseverar que Díaz, de 33 años, será transferido.

"Todavía estamos armando la plantilla para la próxima temporada, el jugador tiene un año más de contrato con nosotros y siempre rindió bien en Atlético de Madrid", afirmó.

Por otra parte, Cerezo indicó que Atlético de Madrid está interesado en contratar al volante argentino de Catania de Italia Alejandro Gómez (ex Arsenal y San Lorenzo), pero desestimó la incorporación del defensor de Porto de Portugal y también "albiceleste" Nicolás Otamendi (ex Vélez).

Palermo arma el nuevo Godoy Cruz

MENDOZA -- El entrenador de Godoy Cruz de Mendoza, Martín Palermo, comenzó a diagramar el equipo para la próxima temporda, ya que a partir del próximo lunes dejará de contar con muchos de los jugadores que vistieron la camiseta del "Tomba" hasta la conclusión del Torneo Final.

Entre los que se van a partir del próximo lunes se encuentran el arquero Nelson Ibáñez, el defensor Emanuel Insúa y los mediocampistas Ciro Rius, David Ramírez, Leonel Ríos y Eduardo Ledesma. Insúa, Rius, Ramírez y Ledesma volverán a los clubes dueños de sus respectivos pases: Boca, Argentinos, Vélez y Lanús, respectivamente.

Mientras tanto, los dirigentes se encuentran negociando la continuidad de José San Román, Nicolás Sánchez y José Luis Fernández, cuyos contratos finalizarán el lunes.

En cuanto a las incorporaciones, los dirigentes irían a la búsqueda de Lucas Viatri, tras decidir dar por terminadas las negociaciones para incorporar al delantero uruguayo Carlos Bueno.

Si lo de Viatri resulta imposible de concretarse, Godoy Cruz maneja como opciones al ecuatoriano Narciso Mina y a Ezequiel Maggiolo.

Los jugadores que permanecerán en el plantel del conjunto mendocino son Federico Lértora, Gonzalo Castellani, Nicolás Castro, Facundo Castillón, Mauro Obolo, Leonardo Sigali, Jorge Curbelo y Leandro Grimi.

Superfinal preview: Velez vs Newell’s

Saturday night is the much maligned Super Final between Velez Sarsfield, champions of the Torneo Inicial in 2012, and Newell’s Old Boys, the new Torneo Final Champions. A place in the Copa Libertadores is up for grabs and another “championship” win to add to the honours plus a healthy amount of cash! We look at the game itself as well as both sides ahead of the big clash in Mendoza.

Gerardo Martino, Newell’s Manager, has already dismissed this game and with it echoed the thoughts of fans throughout the country, ”It does not seem logical to play the final. In no other tournament in the world are there three champions in one year”. Frankly, there isn’t much response to this but then the AFA are known to make some rather curious decisions.

For Newell’s the game poses a greater complication as they have a huge Copa Libertadores Semi Final first leg against Atletico Miniero on Wednesday. Having already won the Torneo Final their place in the Libertadores 2014 is confirmed and so this game provides little more than a distraction. However, for financial reasons and pressure from the AFA, Martino has assured the media that he will “take a risk” and pick a strong side to go out to win.

Velez, on the other hand, have had a torrid campaign plagued by injury and poor results and, since their elimination from the Copa Libertadores at the hands of Newell’s, have had nothing to play for. This final has been the only thing for them to prepare for and they will come into it the fresher side and with key players available after injury, most importantly, Facundo ‘Chucky’ Ferreyra, their top scorer last season, and Fernando Gago, who promised so much upon signing but has delivered very little as a result of injury.

A form side, with no real incentive pitted against an out of form side with it all to play for perhaps could make for an interesting Superfinal…we certainly hope so.




VELEZ SARSFIELD

Come into the game off the back of a lousy Torneo Final in which they won only 4 games Velez would ordinarily appear underdogs but with the fresher players and no doubt more motivation they are not to be written off. When these 2 sides met in the Torneo Final it was a few days before their Libertadores first leg so both sides were well below full strength and it was Newell’s who came out on top, winning 3-1 in Liniers. The Libertadores tie was far closer and Velez won the first leg in Rosario 1-0 only to lose 2-1 at home and go out on away goals. The result all but finished their season so Saturday night is the chance to put things right.

Team News

The only remaining injury is to midfielder, Ariel Cabral and with the return of Gago and Ferreyra, Velez should be much stronger.

NEWELL’S OLD BOYS


Newell’s have had an amazing year, winning the Torneo Final and still in with a shot of the Copa Libertadores. As the influential, Gerardo Martino and Ignacio Scocco will be leaving at the end of the season this could provide a nice way to sign off but they will be mindful of Wednesday’s clash with Atletico Miniero. As stated, Newell’s have had the upper hand in their meetings this season but the league meant very little to Velez and the Libertadores matches proved to be narrow affairs. Martino is aware of the qualities of Velez and knows that those games will have little bearing on tomorrow.

Newell’s are also only missing one player through injury, midfielder, Hernan Villalba so it should be their strongest lineup tomorrow night (if Martino is true to his word!)
