Mexico U20s defeat Mali, stay alive
http://www.youtube.com/w…o4QiyafddgE
GAZIANTEP, Turkey -- Playing with its FIFA Under-20 World Cup life on the line, Mexico earned a 4-1 victory over Mali in a crucial Group D confrontation on Friday.
The Mexicans grabbed a two-goal advantage in the opening nine minutes behind goals by Marco Bueno and Jesus Corona at Kamil Ocak Stadium. Jesus Escoboza and Uvaldo Luna added second-half tallies, boosting El Tri´s (1-0-2, 3 points, +1 GD) chances of advancing to to the knockout round if goal difference is needed. The Africans (0-0-3, 0 points) completed the competition winless.
Mexico, which finished third in its group, will have to wait for the conclusion of group play on Saturday to discover its fate. The top two teams from each of the six groups, plus the four best third-place finishers, will progress to the Round of 16.
In contrast to its opening two losses, El Tri came out a determined side, attacking from the outset. With the match only 87 seconds old, it paid dividends with a gift from Mali.
A poor goal kick clearance by goalkeeper Germain Berthe was intercepted by Bueno outside the penalty area and he took a second before blooping the ball into the back of the net to give Mexico a 1-0 lead.
The Mexicans doubled their advantage in the ninth minute as Corona made a quick flick of a right-wing cross from Raul Lopez past Berthe.
Mali played quite physically with Tiecoro Keita (12´), Bakary Nimaga (15´) and Boubacar Diarra (25´) accruing relatively early yellow cards. Head coach Moussa Keita had seen enough and pulled defender Ousmane Keita for Icaka Diarra in the 33rd minute and forward Hamidou Traore for Souleymane Sissoko a minute later.
Their attack revitalized, the African side started to make a game of it in the second half. Samba Diallo tallied in the 62nd minute off a dipping volley that bounced in front of goalkeeper Richard Sanchez to cut the deficit in half.
Realizing that they needed to score goals to keep their slim hopes of advancing alive, the Mexicans went on the attack again and regained a two-goal margin in the 69th minute.
A long ball came out of the back that Bueno headed to a charging Escoboza, who sped down the right side of the field. After losing his left shoe on the way to the goal, Escoboza fired a 12-yard shot past Berthe for a 3-1 lead.
The Mexicans breathed a little easier with four minutes left on the clock. Luna got onto the scoring sheet, placing the ball between Berthe´s legs from 12 yards for the final margin.

El Salvador eliminated from U-20 World Cup
http://www.youtube.com/w…IuAQzU8wnm0
GAZIANTEP, Turkey - El Salvador was eliminated from the FIFA U-20 World Cup on Friday after losing to Colombia 3-0 in its final group-stage match at Kamil Ocak Stadium and falling victim to unfavorable results in other groups.
Juan Quintero led the way with a goal and an assist for the South American champions, who won Group C (2-1-0, 7 points). Turkey (2-0-1, 6 pts.) captured second place, followed by El Salvador (1-0-2, 3 pts.) and Australia (0-0-3, 0 pts.). Due to inferior goal difference, the Cuscatlecos cannot secure a place in the quarterfinals as one of the top four third-place finishers.
The Colombians controlled the opening half, striking twice within a four-minute span.
First, they took advantage of a poor clearance by goalkeeper Rolando Morales to grab a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Quintero set up Andres Renteria, who powered a shot past the Salvadoran netminder.
Shortly afterwards, Colombia was awarded penalty kick, when referee Neant Alioum spotted an infraction committed by Olivier Ayala against Jhon Cordoba. The 20-year-old took the spot kick himself, firing into the lower left corner as Morales dived in the opposite direction.
El Salvador´s best opportunity came midway through the first half. Midfielder Daniel Coca tried to catch goalkeeper Cristian Bonilla out of the net with a long-distance chip shot that floated over the crossbar.
Colombia had several opportunities to extend its lead in the second half, but combination of solid play by Morales and poor marksmanship prevented that until the very end.
Quintero put an exclamation point on his team´s victory with a 20-yard strike to the near left post two minutes into stoppage time.

Paraguay finishes second in their group after a 1-1 draw with Greece
http://www.youtube.com/w…EwZDL1tdcM0
Despite playing with one less player for much of the game and being behind in the game Paraguay was able to come back to tie Greece. Both teams advance to the next stage.
Paraguay, who played much of the game with one less player, got an epic 1-1 draw against Greece on Friday in the final round of Group D at the U-20 World Cup. Paraguay advances to the next stage as the second placed team from the group after losing a draw to Greece.
With Greece and Paraguay both on 5 points, after two draws and a win, and with the same goal difference (+1) and the same number of goals scored (3) and given up (2), the last resort had to be taken to break the tie: a draw. Greece won and wins the group.
The European team will play on Tuesday, July 2 against one of the third-placed teams that is yet to be decided, while Paraguay will face on Wednesday, July 3 the winner of group E, either Iraq or Chile who face each other on Saturday.
Despite the bad luck in the draw, Paraguay gained a lot of confidence in this match as they struggled upstream almost from the beginning, especially when defenseman Gustavo Gómez saw red for a second yellow card in the 24th.
Greece dominated the game and took the lead in the 68th thanks to Dimitris Diamantakos. Brian Montenegro (73), with a superb bicycle kick, made the score 1-1 which keeps Paraguay unbeaten in this World Cup.
The game did not disappoint and from the beginning maintained a high pace, with two brave teams in pursuit of victory.
Andreas Bouchalakis (7) and Ivan Ramirez (13) had good chances early in the game.
Bouchalakis again came close in the 14th minute but again was stopped by a superb Morel. In the 24the minute Paraguay was wounded when Gustavo Gomez got his second yellow card and left the field with over an hour of time still to play in the game.
Víctor Genes´s boys saw then how Greece took advantage of their numbers to attack more but Paraguay fought back brilliantly.
In the 45th minute, a powerful Stafylidis shot from outside the area crashed against the Paraguayan goal post.
In the second half, after a few minutes with less intensity, Greece was slowly getting closer to goal and their repeated attempts were rewarded in the 68th minute when a free-kick by Stafylidis fell to Diamantakos, the star of the team, who got his first goal in this World Cup.
Far from giving up, Paraguay hit back soon after a long throw-in came into the box and Montenegro met the ball, controlled it with his chest and used a bicycle kick to seal the 1-1 draw. It was one of the most beautiful goals scored so far in this WC.
Diamantakos just missed on another dangerous cross in the 83rd, wasting Greece´s last chance. Fortunately for Greece they win Group D and Paraguay comes in second.

U-20 World Cup: Uruguay plays for the next stage, Chile plays to lead their group
Chile will play on Saturday against Iraq in the third and final round of the first stage with the aim of winning so as to lead Group E, while the other South American team, Uruguay, will be playing with the next stage on the line.
In Group F, the Uruguayans, who fell in the first round in Colombia in 2011, are third with 3 points after falling in the first game against Croatia (1-0) and then winning 2-0 against New Zealand.
Uruguay is currently a point behind Uzbekistan, their opponent on Saturday in Antalya, and Croatia, who will face the Oceania representative in Bursa in the last round.
In Group E, Iraq and Chile, both in the lead with 4 points, are aiming to lead the group outright when they play each other. This group stage comes to end with the match between England (3rd, 2 points) and bottom side Egypt (4th, 0 points).
For the moment the Iraqis are first, having scored one more goal, so that Chile needs a win over one of the revelations of the tournament in order to achieve their goal.
"We have already seen the opponent we will face. Of course now we will see the tactical side. We, regardless of the opponent, are going to take the game to them. We are worried about Iraq and not any other things," said Chilean defender Igor Lichnovsky .
Coach Mario Salas has his full squad to go up against the ´Lions of Mesopotamia´, who so far remain unbeaten, like Chile, having drawn 2-2 against England and getting a 2-1 over the Egyptians.
In group F, Uruguay was the favorite, but they will have to earn a ticket to the knockout in the last round, against a difficult Uzbekistan opponent, one of the surprises of the first week of the World Cup. They are unbeaten and with 4 points provisionally lead the group after thrashing New Zealand 3-0 and then eking out a 1-1 tie against the Croats.
The Central Asian team will thus not be an easy opponent for Uruguay, who is third in the group (3 points) and needing a good result to qualify to the next stage.
"We´re getting better and better. We improved in the second game as compared to the first." said coach John Verzeri after the victory against the representative of Oceania.
Striker Nicolas Lopez, author of one of the goals against the New Zealanders and who significantly invigorated the team´s offensive game in the last half hour against the Croats when he entered the match, will have the mission to crack the orderly Uzbek defense.
Neither team has players suspended and will in principle count on their best men for this game.

Al-Hilal target Thiago Neves set to decide his future
Fluminense have received two offers from Saudi Arabian clubs for Thiago Neves and the midfielder is now expected to decide his future.
Al-Shabab offered 5.5 million dollars for Thiago Neves while Al-Hilal offered US$ 6m, the midfielder would prefer to join the latter.
Fluminense´s director of football Rodrigo Caetano talked with Lancenet about the offers, he said: "Two clubs made enquiries that became offers, and we are now evaluating them, it´s not an auction.
As you know, the offers are from the Arab world, and Fluminense are evaluating Thiago Neves´ situation along with the sponsor, he is also still treating his injury.
He added: "We can´t set a deadline regarding this kind of situation, he has a long contract with the club and maybe the clubs that are interested that will set a deadline.
If it benefits everyone, we will evaluate the offers, otherwise he will remain at the club.", he completed.

Leandro Damião linked to Southampton - report
Southampton are interested in Internacional´s striker Leandro Damião, according to reports in Italian press.
Sky Sport Italia claims that the English club have already made a 20 million Euros offer for the Brazilian striker.
The Italian channel also adds that a meeting is expected to happen within the next days to determine a possible transfer.
Brazilian sources have not reported the negotiations yet and Internacional have previously been expected to keep Leandro Damião since they sold Fred to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Leandro Damião had been linked many times to Tottenham, but they could never meet Internacional´s demands.
Napoli were also reportedly interested in signing him, but the negotiations did not work out and they are not expected to make new offers.
The striker has recently said that no offers have been done for him yet and that he is happy at Internacional.
Leandro Damião had been called up for the Confederations Cup, but got injured, Jô was brought as a replacement.

Work begins on Engenhão as Botafogo look to the Mané Garrincha Stadium
Work on the Engenhão is set to begin on Monday, but in the meantime Botafogo will look elsewhere to play their upcoming Brasileirão games.
Botafogo president Mauricio Assumpção has said that work will begin on the stadium this coming Monday, and as well as repairing the stadium, construction workers will also look into what caused the current faults.
In the meantime Botafogo are likely to play some games in Brasilia at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, but they willl play their derby against Fluminense on July 7 at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife.
Botafogo’s original intention was to play games at the Maracanã, but these proposals hit a snag when they were put to the consortium who run the stadium, and a solution couldn´t be agreed upon.
It’s thought that o Glorioso will play around seven or eight games at stadiums around Brazil, and will effectively be on tour until work on their own stadium is complete.

Palmeiras manager Gílson Kleina believes Jorge Valdivia´s big moment has finally come, as the midfielder has struggled to make a difference so far.
The Chilean shone in a training match against Portuguesa this week, impressing Palmeiras´ manager Gílson Kleina.
The manager talked about Valdivia´s performance, he told UOL: "His big moment at Palmeiras has come.
His performance in the training match represents well the nickname he has (magician), he was directly involved in the goals, his plays were outstading, he is technically brilliant."
Gílson Kleina added: "We have done a very detailed work, and the results are showing, Valdivia is stronger and more confident.
We will do a special work to improve his physical condition, but without preventing him from training. He is a special player because of the injuries he had."

Cantero: "No voy a renunciar"
Me entregaron.

Cantero: "No voy a renunciar"
Me entregaron.
