Uruguay sealed their qualification for the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 football in Turkey with a 4-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Saturday in the 3rd and final round of Group F. Uruguay finish second in the group and will face Nigeria in the next round.
Uruguay came into the match knowing that they could be eliminated in the case of a defeat, but the team responded with a goal from Federico Gino in the first half (38) and Nicolas Lopez (47), Giorgian De Arrascaeta (63 ) and Ruben Betancourt (77) in the second half.
The ´Tooth´ Lopez and De Arrascaeta finished the first stage with two goals each.
With their classification and those of Colombia, Paraguay and Chile, South American football has all its four representatives in the next stage and are among the top sixteen teams.
Uruguay, who fell in the first round against the Croats 1-0 and then corrected course by beating the Kiwis 2-0, finished with 6 points, while Uzbekistan was third with 4 points and qualified to the next stage as one of the four best third placed teams.
The first goal of the match came in the 38th minute when Frederico Gino surprised everyone when he saw the chance to shoot on goal and launched a shot from outside the box that slipped into the Asian target.
Uruguay doubled its lead in the second half thanks to Lopez (47) who was wonderfully set up by De Arrascaeta.
Leonardo Pais wasted a great chance in the 58th, but the third did not wait, this time with the roles reversed with respect to the second goal, with Lopez controlling, looking up and seeing the space to get the ball to De Arrascaeta (63) in the area who lengthened the lead to 3-0.
The fourth of the afternoon in Antalya came from attacker Ruben Betancourt (77), again after an assist from Lopez, the star of the match and omnipresent in the offensive game.
Uruguay received their first warning of the tournament when Gino received a yellow card in the 88th minute.
Uruguay´s victory in this match is a good omen, since several of the members of this generation defeated the Uzbeks two years ago in the quarterfinals of the Under-17 World Cup where Uruguay was runner-up.
