Engineer Verzeri, a passionate teacher who instills what he feels

Only France, the fearsome opponent in Saturday´s final, separates him from a title that would make his Uruguayan team be the most successful youth team from Uruguay. They would surpass Victor Pua´s team that was runner-up in Malaysia in 1997.

A spinal problem prevented him from pursuing a career as a footballer, after some initial attempts, so he turned his efforts in carving out an academic background, while at the same time never neglecting football.

Tactics, systems, strategies ... all this is a passion for the ´engineer´ Verzeri. During this tournament he has tried to convey his knowledge to a united and responsive group. His kind of a football father and a teacher whose footballing lessons will serve his pupils in their future careers.

He is an extremely methodical and exhaustive coach who likes to study his opponents to perfection, to be fully aware of their strengths, weaknesses and their game alternatives to be able to find the best ways in which to cause them damage.

"We still don´t know much but the teacher is going to explain in the next few days, like he always does. We will review what the good characteristics of France are and see how we can play," said attacker Gonzalo Bueno after the semifinal against Iraq.

One of the positive messages that Verzeri tries to always convey to his players is fair play, although this is a subject that he is routinely asked about by the international press as Uruguay is seen as a combative team.

"Passion is a feature of Uruguay football, but we also want to demonstrate the technical aspects that we can develop. Always, above all, we are good in the statistics of fair play," said Verzeri this Friday at the official press conference prior to the final.

After coaching several youth teams in his country and the national team of Oman, Verzeri assumed coaching duties of Racing Club of Montevideo in 2008, guiding them to the Copa Libertadores, and in 2010 moved on to Under-20 team of Uruguay .

Uruguay crashed out in the first stage of the 2011 U-20 World Cup in Colombia but at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, the same year, the team got the bronze medal.

He managed to qualify the team for the London Olympics, although there senior coach Oscar Tabarez took over.

After the first game (1-0 loss to Croatia) in this U-20 WC he earned harsh criticism on social media for not starting star player Nicolas Lopez. He has started every game since.

Verzeri, who is also a sports marketing expert and yoga lover, weathered that small storm with elegance and now time has shown that his methods and his work with the national team will work as his team is on the verge of making history.

http://www.youtube.com/w…nAuCxfmZfbs

Kampen trak under 10.000 tilskuere.

Byggesjusk i højeste potens.

Al-Khelaifi in no rush to replace Leonardo at PSG

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted that he will not make a rushed decision over who to replace outgoing sporting director Leonardo.

The Brazilian resigned from his post this week after finding out he will be banned for the whole of the 2013-14 Ligue 1 season for pushing a referee in May.

"I´ll take my time concerning the question of replacing Leo, or any other question pertaining to the management of the club," Ligue1.com quotes Al-Khelaifi as saying.

The 40-year-old will leave the Parc des Princes at the end of August and will depart with the gratitude of Al-Khelaifi, who has insisted that the club are still focused on signing new players.

He told L´Equipe: "I really understand his decision. I respect it, even if I regret it deeply. Leo has done an excellent job over the past two years to bring a lot of credibility to the sporting aspect of our project.

"I thank him for this work and wish him the best for the future.

"Seeing executives go is part of the life of a club or any business. People come and they go. The project does not stop.

"PSG now has over 200 employees, including players. The club is growing very fast and there is no-one who can prevent this growth from continuing.

"Nothing can stop us. We continue to build our team and our club, to become a major European competitor in the years to come.

"Today, we are working to recruit new players to add to our great staff of champions. That is my immediate priority.

PSG president closes door on potential Thiago Silva exit

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi has closed the door on Thiago Silva leaving to join Barcelona.

The Spanish champions are believed to have been tracking the Brazil captain ever since last summer, when he almost moved to Camp Nou rather than the Parc des Princes.

However, it seems that any potential deal could prove impossible after a statement on Friday evening from Nasser al-Khelaifi.

"He is one of our most important players and therefore will take the captain’s armband, both on and off the field," Globoesporte quoted the PSG president as saying.

"Last season he was extraordinary and the fans are crazy about him. Thiago Silva is priceless."

Thiago Silva has had to deny having an agreement in place with Barcelona as speculation continues to grow.

A statement released on Thursday read: "Thiago Silva and his agent Paulo Tonietto deny any agreement regarding a transfer to Barcelona, as had been published by Spanish newspaper Sport.

"Besides, we reaffirm that no meeting or agreement with the Catalan club took place, and that the player is under contract with PSG."

Brazil defender Adriano recently claimed that his compatriot wanted to join him at the Camp Nou.

NEWS: Quintero joins FC Porto

After selling James Rodriguez to Monaco for a monster €45million fee, Portuguese giants FC Porto has replaced the Colombian playmaker with another. Juan Fernando Quintero, star of the recent Under-20 World Cup joins the Liga Champions for €5million from recently relegated Serie A side Pescara.

If like former Colombians, Radamel Falcao and Rodriguez, Porto wishes to sell at a huge profit, the release clause inside the 20-year-old’s contract is €40million.

Quintero, suffered from a series of injuries after the Under-20 South American tournament in January, but still managed 17 Serie A appearances for Pescara. Although, he was unable to help the Delfini escape relegation, he has aided their financial situation with the big money move.

Pescara initially signed him from Atlético Nacional in July 2012 on-loan with an option to buy for €3.5million, which they have activated.

His performances in Italy last term made him being watched under many top clubs’ radar. The creative midfielder was linked over the past few months with Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Juventus and Fiorentina.

The young star stated he is ‘delighted’ the move and after his recent displays in Turkey for the Colombian Under-2o side, the Porto fans are in for a real treat especially when linking up with fellow compatriot striker Jackson Martinez.
