Intressant kamp imellem El Salvador og Haiti. El Salvador virker til at være lidt stærkere teknisk, imens Haiti er stærkest fysisk. Haiti overrasker mig på en positiv måde. De virker til at være taktisk gode, og spiller meget kynisk. Det er vel nok også deres bedste chance i en kamp som den her. Haiti virker til at være farlige på omstillingerne. De har nogle hurtige sprintere.

Kæmpe drama i Houston!!! Haiti føler sig snydt for et straffespark. Få minutter efter hamrer El Salvador bolden i nettet, men der bliver dømt offside. Få minutter efter får El Salvador et meget kontroversielt straffespark. Haitis spillere protesterer og flere af deres spillere får gult kort. Zelaya sparker straffesparket, målmanden redder, men Zelaya scorer på returen. 1-0 til El Salvador. Haiti presser på.

Ganske godt gået af turneringerens yngste hold. Men de skulle også bruge den sejr, for at gå videre.

Haiti har haft et et stort potentiale og masser af talentfulde fodboldspillere, strukturen (eller mangel på samme) og den politiske situation har altid været barrieren de skulle overkomme.

De (Haiti) røg helt ud da Honduras smed kampen mod TNT da førstnævnte allerede var kvalificeret som etter i puljen.


CONCACAF Gold Cup Wrap: Trinidad and Tobago, El Salvador progress

Trinidad and Tobago have qualified for the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over Honduras in Houston.

Honduras had already booked their place in the last eight thanks to wins in their first two matches but their quest to remain unbeaten took a hit seven minutes before the interval when right-back Jose David Velasquez was given his marching orders by referee Marco Rodriguez.

Trinidad and Tobago were able to make their numerical advantage count three minutes into the second-half on Monday, when Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones slotted home a penalty.

And Kevin Molino made sure of the win on 67 minutes, firing a shot past Kevin Hernandez in the Honduras goal.

The victory saw Trinidad and Tobago claim second place in Group B, having scored more goals than El Salvador, who booked their spot in the next phase as one of the two best third-placed teams thanks to a 1-0 victory over Haiti.

A 76th-minute penalty from Rodolfo Zelaya was all that separated the two sides, after the striker had already hit the woodwork twice in the first half.

Zelaya finally made the breakthrough late in the match from the spot, following a controversial decision from the assistant referee, who believed Mechack Jerome had fouled substitute Rafael Burgos.

Despite seeing his spot-kick well saved by Frandy Montrevil, Zelaya tucked in the rebound to make it 1-0.

That was where the scoreline stayed and El Salvador´s four points were enough to make them the best-performed of the tournament´s third-placed sides, sending them into the quarter-finals.

Turning starlets into stars

Uruguay´s Under-20 players performed admirably at the World Youth Cup, but face a greater challenge in continuing their careers.

Somewhat unfortunate to have lost to France in the final of the World Youth Cup, Uruguay flew home to a hero´s welcome in Montevideo on Tuesday, with a procession planned from the airport all the way to the city´s legendary Centenario stadium.

For many of them, though, this will only be a brief visit. Star man Nicolas Lopez has spent the past year in Italy with Roma. Right back Guillermo Varela joins Manchester United. His partner on the other flank, Gianni Rodriguez, is already with Benfica. Jose Maria Gimenez, a magnificently promising defender young enough to play in the next World Youth Cup, has been snapped up by Atletico Madrid. Left-sided midfielder Diego Laxalt joins Inter Milan. Strikers Diego Rolan and Ruben Bentancourt are with Bordeaux and PSV Eindhoven, respectively.

More will surely follow. Captain and centre back Gaston Silva, central midfielder Sebastian Cristoforo and support striker Giorgian De Arrascaeta have all put themselves in the shop window.

This is Uruguay´s curse. With a population of only a little more than three million, it is impossible for the country´s clubs to hold on to their best players. Once the global market opened up, Uruguay was forced to say a hurried goodbye to its young footballing talent.

And this is the context that makes the national under-20 side so important. The power of economics takes the players away, but the power of sentiment can ensure that they remain useful to the senior national side.

Uruguay explicitly use their youth ranks to build a bond of affection between talented young players and the sky blue shirt. Youngsters are given a crash course in their country´s footballing identity, in what it means to pull on the shirt in a land where it is said that "other countries have their history, Uruguay has its football." The idea is that, wherever the club game takes them, in football terms they are Uruguayans for life.

The project is overseen by head coach Oscar Washington Tabarez, who had been ruminating on the effects of globalisation before taking charge of the national team for the second time some seven years ago. A teacher by trade, "El Maestro" Tabarez has brought all of his wisdom and experience to bear in what is presumably the last major job of a long and illustrious career.

A key part of the project is the identification of talent to be groomed, with Tabarez well aware that a key requisite for success in the modern, global game is speed -- if not of movement, then speed of thought, or the technical excellence that permits speed of execution.

Over these past seven years, Uruguay have consistently performed well at both under-17 and under-20 levels. Reaching the final in Turkey last Saturday was no fluke, merely the most eye-catching in a series of solid campaigns.

Although effective at Southampton last season, Gaston Ramirez must still live up to the hype he generated as a youngster.

But it is still way too early to measure the success of the 2013 Uruguay Under-20 side. That comes in a few years, when the long-term objective -- to groom players for the senior side -- may or may not have been accomplished. And it is clear that the class of 2013 still has a massive hurdle in front of it. The gap between under-20 and senior stardom is huge, as Uruguay found out a year ago.

The 2012 London Olympics were an important competition for Uruguay -- and not just because they were competing in the football tournament for the first time since changing the game by winning the gold medals of 1924 and ´28. It was also the moment when the graduates from the promising under-20 sides of 2009 and 2011 could show their worth. This was especially important since the senior side have been together for some time now, and are clearly aging in key positions. The Olympics, then, was a perfect halfway house, a stage for under-23 players to strut their stuff and be quietly assimilated afterward into the senior ranks.

That was the theory. In practice, nothing went to plan. Uruguay were eliminated in the group phase after three undistinguished performances in which not a single reputation was enhanced. A year on, little has changed. The senior side are a year older. Those great hopes of the 2009 under-20 side, Nicolas Lodeiro and Gaston Ramirez, are still struggling to make an impact at the highest level, and the fear is that much the same might turn out to be true of many of the 2013 generation.

Those who have moved to Europe at such an early age face a battle to get near the first team. Careers could stall as a result of too long spent in the reserves, or spells out on loan at clubs with no long-term stake in the youngster´s development.

Uruguay have done what they could, identifying the talent and providing the structure. Much of what happens now is out of their hands. As they follow the progress of their youngsters scattered all over Europe and Latin America, they must hope that starlets turn into stars.

Vargas se acerca a Rosario Central

BUENOS AIRES -- El volante colombiano Fabián Vargas rechazó la oferta de Racing por las amenazas que recibió por parte de la barrabrava de Independiente, su último club, y se convertiría en refuerzo de Rosario Central, que prepara su regreso a Primera.

Tras declinar la oferta del conjunto de Avellaneda, el volante central de 33 años aceptó la propuesta de la dirigencia del club rosarino, que lo espera el martes para ultimar los detalles que faltan para confirmar el acuerdo.

Con la posible contratación del bogotano, el DT Miguel Angel Russo cubrirá el sector que dejo libre Jesús Méndez, quien regresó a Boca Juniors, club dueño de su pase.

Las otras negociaciones que mantienen los dirigentes son por los delanteros Gabriel Hauche y David Trezeguet. Al de Racing Club se le compraría una parte del pase, mientras que, con el de River Plate se acordaría un préstamo por un año.

El otro nombre que suena es el de Guillermo "Pol" Fernández, volante por derecha de Boca Juniors, que buscaría en la "Academia" la continuidad que no le dará el DT Carlos Bianchi.

El único refuerzo que ha llegado a Arroyito es el defensor Alejandro Donatti, ex Tigre, al cual el entrenador ya utilizó como titular en el primer ensayo de fútbol.

FAA pidió la inhibición de 9 clubes

BUENOS AIRES -- Futbolistas Argentinos Agremiados (FAA) presentó este lunes en la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino el pedido de inhibición de cinco clubes de Primera División y cuatro de la B Nacional, entre los que se destacan los casos de San Lorenzo e Independiente, respectivamente.

La lista que presentó el sindicato de los futbolistas incluye a San Lorenzo, Colón, Tigre, Rosario Central y All Boys, de Primera, y a Independiente, Huracán y Banfield, de la B Nacional.

En todos los casos, el pedido de inhibición remite a deudas que los clubes mantienen con futbolistas que pasaron por el club. En San Lorenzo quienes presentaron ese pedido fueron Denis Stracqualursi y Fabián Bordagaray, en tanto que en Independiente lo habrían solicitado Fabián Vargas y Ernesto Farías.

La inhibición implica que los clubes que tengas deudas con futbolistas no podrán "registrar nuevos contratos hasta tanto no hayan cancelado lo adeudado o formalizado algún convenio de pago".

Por su parte, y pese a que evitó dar precisiones sobre el tema, el secretario general de FAA, Sergio Marchi, dijo a DyN que nadie debería sorprenderse si debido a la deuda que los clubes mantienen con los futbolistas el 4 de agosto "la pelotita no empieza a rodar".

"No se sorprendan si la pelotita el 4 no empieza a rodar, eh", disparó, tajante, Marchi.
