Atlético ville gerne have spillet på lykkearenaen Independência, men Conmebol sagde nej.

Olimpia take control of final

Paraguayan side Olimpia put one hand on the Copa Libertadores trophy as they beat Brazil´s Atletico Mineiro 2-0 in the first leg of the final.

Goals in each half from Alejandro Silva and Wilson Pittoni gave Ever Hugo Almeida´s Olimpia a healthy lead ahead of the return match in Belo Horizonte next Wednesday, when they will look to seal their fourth Libertadores crown.

Olimpia were the better side at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco, with their tough midfield and powerful attackers to the fore, while the Brazilian side, typified by former AC Milan and Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho, struggled.

Uruguayan midfielder Silva put Olimpia ahead in the 22nd minute following a long run that ended with a left-footed shot from outside the box.

That goal gave Olimpia´s players more confidence and Juan Manuel Salgueiro could have extended the lead in the 37th minute, but his was just wide of the post.

Four minutes after the interval, Diego Tardelli shot and Ronaldinho failed to deflect that ball into the back of the net to equalise. With the match looking set to finish 1-0, Pittoni gave the home fans cause to celebrate in injury time by netting a free-kick that gave Olimpia a more comfortable lead.

A couple of minutes earlier, Mineiro defender Richarlyson had been shown red and he will miss the return match, as will his team-mate Marcos Rocha who picked up another yellow card.

Pittoni told Fox Sports: "The 2-0 lead is very important but Atletico Mineiro will be hosts next week and we must keep our feet on the ground. They are great players and fortunately we managed to play good football tonight."

Salgueiro added: "This is the lead we had expected on paper, but there are 90 minutes to go and Atletico Mineiro are very powerful as hosts. We did a good job. Mineiro is the best team in the competition and winning was crucial and the goal difference is good considering we know how to defend as visitors."

Colombia Primera A: Santa Fe 0 Atletico Nacional 2

http://www.youtube.com/w…85jqWvwsBV8

Atletico Nacional are champions of Colombia after beating Santa Fe 2-0 away from home in the second leg of the Apertura final.

Following a goalless draw in the first leg in Medellin on Sunday, the title was up for grabs at Santa Fe´s Estadio Nemesio Camacho in Bogota on Wednesday.

And it was the visitors who drew first blood seven minutes before half-time, with striker Jefferson Duque charging into the box, beating two defenders before rifling a right-foot shot between the legs of Santa Fe goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.

Atletico had to wait until the 83rd minute to make sure of victory, however, and the goal came courtesy of substitute Luis Mosquera.

Mosquera, who replaced Duque on 79 minutes, made sure of the win when he collected a pass inside the box and his side-footed effort found its way past Vargas and into the net, securing Atletico their 12th Colombian title.

And Barcelona had a 71st-minute equaliser from Cristian Penilla to thank for their 3-3 draw at home against Deportivo Cuenca.

Andres Rios scored a brace for Cuenca, and when the 24-year-old Argentine netted his second just before the half-time his side were up 3-2.

But Pernilla´s goal with 20 minutes remaining ensured honours remained even between the two strugglers, with neither side breaking their winning duck this season.

Al-Khelaifi holds sway for Thiago Silva

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has spoken once again of his admiration for Barcelona, but declared his "very good relationship" with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has helped persuade him to stay in the French capital.

Thiago Silva, 28, has four years remaining on the contract he signed with PSG following his €42 million move from AC Milan last summer.

However, the Brazil international has still been consistently linked with a move to Barca, who have reportedly already made a €32 million offer for the centre-back.

"I have four years on my PSG contract, and I´m going to respect it. I have a responsibility towards an important club in my career. I don´t have anything else to say. As far as potential negotiations, you´ll have to talk to my club about that. It´s pointless putting me under pressure. I´m used to it, I´m experienced," Thiago Silva, who will not return to training until July 30 following his exertions in helping his nation win the Confederations Cup last month, told globoesporte.com.

"I have affection for Barcelona and their style of play. Everyone loves the way in which they play. As I´m passionate about football, I do too. But there´s nothing certain for the future. I´m happy and I hope to be able to honour my contract at PSG."

Thiago Silva was given the captain´s armband by former PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti last season, leading the club to their first Ligue 1 title since 1994. And Laurent Blanc, the Italian´s successor, has already acknowledged the defender is the most likely candidate to continue in the role.

Al-Khelaifi has also repeatedly emphasised the importance of Thiago Silva to the team, and the player himself revealed that his admiration for the Qatari was a further factor in his decision to remain in Paris.

"I´ve spoken about it many times with the president. The season is going to start as the last one finished. I´m going to be wearing a PSG shirt," he said. "He´s a very nice person. We have a very good relationship. That pushes me to stay. It gives me even more motivation that I have this relationship with the president and the owner of the club."

Thiago Silva’s words follow on from those of his agent, Paulo Tonieto, who told PSG´s official website earlier this week: "Thiago Silva is a Paris Saint-Germain player, he has a contract and he´s going to respect it. The rumours exist today as they did last year, but Thiago Silva is a PSG player and he will go to the end of his contract with his club."
