Cavani expects Ibrahimovic partnership to flourish

Edinson Cavani is confident that his partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic will prove fruitful despite a faltering start.

The Paris Saint-Germain pair started together for the first time since the Uruguayan arrived at the club, but Ajaccio held on for a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Cavani, who opened his account with a late equaliser, saw promising signs in the display.

And he was quick to dismiss the suggestion that the two would be unable to play together.

"It (their relationship) is normal, there is no problem," he told L´Equipe. "We are complementary, that´s for sure. With time, we will be even better on the ground."

The defending champions were frustrated by Fabrizio Ravanelli´s side at the Parc des Princes and Cavani admitted that he was disappointed not to get all three points.

"This is football," he added. "This is my first goal and it is nice, but it does not do much good if you do not win at the end.

"We deserved to win. We had so many opportunities but we will improve gradually.

"With hard work, we will achieve our goals."

Cavani arrived at PSG in July after scoring 78 goals in 104 Serie A games for previous club Napoli.

Falcao denies Monaco departure talk

Radamel Falcao has dismissed reports that he wants to leave Monaco after just three months with the Ligue 1 club.

Reports in the Spanish media suggested that the Colombian striker was keen to leave the club amid concerns around the tax laws in the principality.

After paying €45million for Falcao in May, Monaco gave him a €14m annual salary, but new laws will see his take-home sum cut in half.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that the former Atletico Madrid striker had been offered to Real Madrid, however, the 27-year-old rejected the story.

"I am very happy at Monaco and I believe in the project," he said. "I feel good at the club and I´m staying here."

Falcao has started his career in France well, finding the net on his debut against Bordeaux and opening the scoring in the 4-1 victory over Montpellier on Sunday.

The club were also quick to deny the reports, posting on their official Twitter account: "The club would like to categorically deny rumours about a sale of Falcao.

"As a reminder, the Colombian attacker has signed with ASMFC for five years."

Liverpool ´confident´ of ´Willian´ signing - report

Liverpool are ´confident´ of sealing the €30 million signing of Anzhi Makhachkala´s Brazilian winger Willian according to reports in England.

Goal.com claims that the Reds expect to complete the signing after promising to match Willian´s reported €100,000 a week wages.

The Anfield club have also offered a sell-on clause to Anzhi, promising them 50 per cent of any profit on any future sale worth over €30m.

Tottenham are also said to be interested in signing the Brazil star but Brendan Rodgers´ side are said to be the forerunners.

"For now, all there is are talks. There was the Manchester City bid [of €40m], and that was turned down [before Kerimov decided to reduce funding] and that was a while ago," Willian told reporters last week.

Now, I´m waiting for a new bid to arrive in the next days from a few clubs, like Liverpool. If it´s really Liverpool, then it is surely a great club. I´m hopeful and very calm, just waiting for the best."

Riquelme runs to Bianchi to celebrate the opening goal in last night’s victory

A Sunday which saw several of Argentina’s heavyweights in action produced some interesting results. Boca Juniors bounced back from their defeat earlier in the week to defeat Atletico Rafaela in La Bombonera, kickstarted by Juan Roman Riquelme’s indirect freekick and finished by a fine team move, Boca look to be improving. Later, River Plate dropped more points as they produced a goalless draw in Mendoza with Godoy Cruz. With Teo Gutierrez still not able to play River look woefully short up top and lack any real edge. Newell’s Old Boys and Belgrano were also unable to produce any goals when they met in Rosario mainly thanks to the performance of Belgrano keeper, Juan Olave. In the remaining game, Racing were comfortably beaten by Tigre perhaps edging Manager, Luis Zebeldia towards the exit door. Boca loanee, Sergio Araujo scored twice before Racing flop, Jose Sand rubbed salt into the wound. Rodrigo De Paul managed a consolation but the end could be nigh for Zubeldia.
