Copa Sul-/Sudamericana
http://www.youtube.com/w…cUJYWWtlIys

24.07.2012 Danubio (URU) - Olimpia (CHI)
24.07.2012 Tacuary (PAR) - Cobreloa (CHI)

Coritiba med at slutte over nedrykningsstregen.
Kenny Dalglish had scouted the young star at Bordeaux, and requested the chairman Jack Walker to begin discussions with the player’s club. He refused, and famously said, “Why do you want to sign Zinedine Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?”
Copa Libertadores 2012

Cássio (COR);
Matías Rodriguez (La U), Rojas (La U), Leandro Castán (COR) og Clemente Rodriguez (BOCA);
Marcelo Díaz (La U), Paulinho (COR) og Riquelme (BOCA;
Pabón (NAC), Sheik (COR) og Neymar (SAN)

OL London
Cubero, Herediano look to start fast

HEREDIA, Costa Rica - Jose Miguel Cubero remembers last year´s experience in the CONCACAF Champions League.

After his club Herediano club routed Guyanese amateur side Alpha United in the Preliminary Round 10-2 on aggregate, the 22-time Costa Rican champion lost three straight to start the Group Stage, beginning with a 5-0 loss to eventual champion Monterrey.

Cubero and his teammates are determined to not repeat the disastrous campaign which saw the 91-year-old club, which enjoys one of Central America´s most faithful fan bases, finish last in its group with the fourth-worst record in the competition.

"It was due to the lack of experience that we had at the beginning of the tournament," Cubero said. "(When) we came back home (against Monterrey), we barely lost (1-0). That means that we learned our lesson and we need to put it in practice."

With the experience behind it, the 25-year-old Cubero, a defensive midfielder with more than a dozen appearances for Costa Rica, feels that " El Team", as the club is often called, can make a dent in this year´s Champions League.

With some knowledge of their opponents, like 2011 CCL runner-up Real Salt Lake and its Costa Rican forward Alvaro Saborio, Cubero and his teammates know they must be respectful but not fearful whe its opens against RSL July 31 in Costa Rica.

"Saborio´s team is tough. They´ve done well recently in CONCACAF, however, we have the experience based on what we went through last tournament and we know that we cannot drop points at home." he said. "We need to start on the right foot and the only way to do that is to win."

Some others already have said that the change in the Champions League competition format - eliminating the Preliminary Round, going from four groups of four teams to eight groups of three and only the group winners advancing to the quarterfinals - will this year´s competition more difficult.

According to Cubero, changes in the format doesn´t change Herediano´s objectives.

"When a group has a clear goal in mind and know what it wants, then things can come together like they have for Saprissa in the past," he said. "There are tough opponents but we will give a fight."

With the eight U.S. and Mexican teams divided among the eight groups, Cubero identifies them as favorites.
"They are teams with the highest level and we have to face them in a serious manner," he said.

Herediano will enter the Champions League without Uruguayan midfielder and last year´s team scoring leader Jose Carlos Cancela, who transferred to Saprissa in the offseason.

Cubero at least feels Herediano will have the boost of coming in as the reigning Costa Rican champ.

"It means something, but it´s better," he said. "The confidence is at its highest and we will look for the best for not only our institution but also Costa Rican soccer in general."

Herediano is in Group 2 with Real Salt Lake and Tauro of Panama and will visit Tauro on August 30. The club will then host the Panamanians on September 25 before wrapping up with a visit to Salt Lake on October 23.

Apropos Panama.

Apertura 2012 - Runde 1.

I Colón spillede Arabe Unido og Chorillo 0-0, mens Sporting San Miguelito hjemme sejrede 1-0 over Plaza Amador - Delanmo Welch scorede kampens eneste mål.

El Romance No Da Mas -- A Boca Fan Describes the Pain of Riquelme´s Departure

And like that it was over. The Copa Libertadores dream. But for the first time, as a Boca fan, that pain did not last long at all. That hurt did not hurt as much. Because a bigger pain, a far bigger blow, came almost immediately. Our icon, Roman, resigned from the club.

‘No tengo nada mas para dar.’

I have nothing left to give.

Coming from any other player in the world, a statement like that to your club and fans would mostly outrage and anger them. But not to us. How could we be angry? Roman has given us so much. Five Argentine Primera Divison Titles, three Copa Libertadores Titles, one Copa Sudamericana, and that lil old magical display against none other than Real Madrid for the Intercontinental Cup. But those are just details.

Deeper than that, Roman, as his affectionately known by his fans, has been the symbol of so much for Boca. For a club known as ‘the half plus one’, he is the perfect talisman. For, in Argentina, if you don’t love him, you hate him; much the same as Boca itself. He has been the symbol of our dominance till now ever since he ended River late 90s golden era. He has almost single-handedly beaten River Plate on countless occassions, not to mention the most famous nutmeg followed by ‘Olllleee’ in Argentinian history. He has crafted the defeat of so many Brazilian sides that it caused Pele to plead for his country’s clubs to end their terrible run against Boca.

For a club that so many love to hate, Roman has given us so much to stand for. An icon who is the quintessential representation of the club; love me/us, or hate me/us. I don’t care. We don’t care. Roman knows who he is and he doesn’t budge. This is an incredible strength to possess, but, ultimately it has also led to his frequent downfal. Though each time it only strengthened the love from the adoring Boca fans further. Even Diego Armando Maradona, as manager of Argentina, watched him at La Bombonera and said, ‘like that, he is no use to me’. So Roman retired from international football, and the Boca fans chanted his name each week thereafter, loving him even more. It was the same when Manuel Pellegrini excluded him from Villareal’s first team. Roman did not play football for six months, then, returned to Boca to win the Copa Libertadores. And the fans love grew to a new level again.

More than being a fabulous player with a cult hero status for performances against the greatest rivals, Roman is a symbol of a dying art in Argentinian and world football; el Enganche. The hook. The playmaker position. The artful, creative, distinctive player that a team is built around. A player that plays on rhythm, touch, instinct, and feel. That is Riquelme. There are fewer and fewer of them these days. As Boca fans, we fear this is the death of football. That is the reason that around 6,000 supporters turned up to La Bombonera recently to chant his name, wave pictures of him, and beg for him to change his mind. That is why several other thousand supporters gathered in 26 other locations around Argentina to do the same. We fear he is the last of his kind.

Whether he is or isn’t, it was a display of support and love that befitted a player that perhaps did not get the awards, honours, or trophies he deserved. The outpouring of emotion was immense, and not less than he deserved.

http://www.youtube.com/w…63kBHN3bL68

The void he leaves will be huge. But that is not only a bad thing. For the void that we feel will urge us passionate Boca fans to push, hope and pray that it is filled, at least partially. Somehow. And that is where the opportunity lies for the next Romanesque enganche.

I became a Boca supporter because of my father, but I shall remain a passionate Boca supporter forever because of Juan Roman Riquelme.

Gracias Roman, you’ve given us more than enough.

@FAS

Tak for info, FAS :).
