Russo: "Pasamos una prueba dura"

ROSARIO -- El entrenador de Rosario Central, Miguel Angel Russo, enfatizó que esta noche con el empate sobre la hora 1-1 ante Arsenal superaron "una prueba muy difícil", en alusión a que venían de dejar una mala imagen ante Tigre y en zona de descenso directo.

"Pasamos una prueba muy difícil después de lo que habia ocurrido contra Tigre. Este es un club que tiene un ADN especial y hay que respetarlo y hay que seguir trabajando para ir por la senda que nosotros pretendemos", subrayó Russo tras la contagiosa demostración de actitud que expuso su equipo y le permitió obtener sobre el epílogo el 1-1 ante uno de los animadores del Torneo Inicial y semifinalista de la Copa Argentina.
Es que el plantel Canalla pasó una semana complicada tras la caída ante el Matador, ya que hasta hubo amenazas pintadas en las paredes y disparos intimidatorios contra una de las puertas del Gigante de Arroyito.

Si bien lo que la barrabrava exige es que se gane el clásico ante el archirrival Newell´s Old Boys, ver a Central, de momento, en zona de descenso, tampoco ayuda para calmar los ánimos.

Y en la noche de este sábado si algo no se le puede reprochar al equipo auriazul es la actitud, ya que recibió el 1-0 ante los del Viaducto en el principio del cotejo y desde entonces se presionó con intensidad en procura de batir la valla protegida por un equipo compacto y un arquero eficaz como Cristian Campestrini. "Creo que fuimos muy superiores al rival. Hay que tener en cuenta que fue muy difícil en la posición que estaba, que (a Arsenal) se le presentó el panorama perfecto apenas comenzado el partido y el equipo no perdió la calma, lo fue a buscar. Es difícil lo que hicimos, presionar los noventa minutos. Igual no estoy conforme, creo que todavía nos falta un poco más", argumentó Russo, quien quiere que además se mejore el nivel.

"Como el rival nos esperaba sobre la línea del área grande tuvimos que recurrir mucho al pelotazo", argumentó Russo en su contacto con los periodistas.

Y al director técnico se lo vio tan fortalecido que hasta se refirió superficialmente al evidente penal en perjuicio de Carlos Luna que el árbitro Mauro Vigliano omitió sancionar.

"Sí, creo que fue un claro penal. Igual tuvimos varias situaciones (para convertir) como la de Pablo (Becker), pero igual mi función no es hablar de los árbitros", se limitó a decir el adiestrador.

Russo esta vez dejó de la lado la vestimenta formal para asistir a la conferencia y se presentó con una campera muy parecida a lo que es la histórica camiseta a rayas verticales del popular club de Arroyito.

Perazzo: "Pagamos caro un error"

BAHIA BLANCA -- El entrenador de Olimpo, Walter Perazzo, admitió que en el empate 1-1 ante Belgrano su equipo cometió un error y lo "terminó pagando caro".

"El resultado fue justo. Belgrano se defendió con ocho hombres, buscó con pelotazos a sus delanteros, no nos dejó jugar, y se fue con lo que vino a buscar a Bahía Blanca", comentó Perazzo en su contacto con los periodistas.
Y el director técnico de los sureños siguió con su análisis: "No nos dieron tiempo a cerrar el partido, porque después de conseguir el gol tenía pensado sacar un delantero y hacer ingresar a Matías Sarulyte, pero dejamos tirar un centro, nos dormimos y volvimos a pagar caro un error".

"Se consiguió el cincuenta por ciento de los puntos como local y es poco. Si bien la meta es llegar a veinticinco puntos, estamos lejos de eso. Hay que recuperar puntos de visitante y ganar lo que queda como local", precisó Perazzo cuando se refirió a la complicada situación con el promedio.

FURIOS: "EL EMPATE ESTUVO BIEN PERO NO SIRVE"
Por su parte, el defensor Iván Furios aceptó que el empate "estuvo bien", porque el partido en líneas generales fue "parejo", pero reconoció que "no" les sirve "el punto" conseguido.

"El partido fue parejo y el empate está bien: fue justo. Tuvimos algunas situaciones pero Belgrano se defendió bien y fue difícil entrarle. La alegría cuando abrimos el marcador nos duró poco", contó Furios tras el cotejo jugado en Bahía Blanca.

"Belgrano es un equipo con oficio y de cuidado y sabíamos que el compromiso iba a ser duro. El punto, la verdad, no sirve, pero igualmente siempre hay que sumar", explicó el defensor.

"A veces hay desatenciones que se pagan caro", completó Furios en referencia a que el empate de Belgrano llegó por intermedio del uruguayo Bueno, quien entró en soledad y cabeceó sin marca.

Mourinho explains Oscar preference

Chelsea manager José Mourinho has explained his reasoning for preferring Oscar to Juan Manuel Mata as his ‘number ten’.

The Brazilian started and scored in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday, while Mata was completely excluded from the 18-man match-day squad.

"The evolution of the team is that I want Oscar and Mata to play together," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "I want that but for that (to happen) one has to adapt and to work to a certain way of play because I am not ready to change Oscar´s position.

"Oscar as a number 10 is a player that gives us creativity, but at the same time when we press up, Oscar is a runner, a player capable of pressing. We have our ideas and we stick with our ideas.

"Juan has to learn to play the way I want to play. He has to be more consistent, has to participate more when the team loses the ball. It´s not his fault, it´s just the consequence of the way he has played in the last years."

Oscar, who Chelsea signed from Internacional for £19.35 million last summer, has started four of The Blues five Premier League games this season, netting two goals. Mata, in comparison, has been selected from the start just twice and was subbed before 70 minutes in both of those appearances.

Cruyff: Messi/Neymar will not work

Former Barcelona manager John Cruyff does not believe that Neymar can work with Lionel Messi.

The Dutchman does not think the Seleção international has the required levels of work-rate that fellow attackers Pedro and Cristian Tello possess.

The Brazil star extended his scoreless run in La Liga to five games in the 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, and Cruyff - who had previously suggested Messi should be sold to accommodate Neymar - believes the 21-year-old´s poor work-rate leaves the team too unbalanced when the Argentine is also playing, reports Goal.com.

"I never said that Neymar was a bad player. The question is how he [Neymar] fits into the team," the 66-year-old told Globoesporte.

"Neymar and Messi are two attacking players, but that means there’ll be one less player doing the defensive work. That could be a problem.

"Barcelona have a style of play in which the players on the wing have to work hard; however, Neymar isn’t a work-horse like Pedro or [Cristian] Tello."

Ederson releases anti racism message ahead of Derby della Capitale

Lazio midfielder Ederson has joined forces with Roma compatriot Michael Bradley to release an anti-racism message ahead of this weekend’s Rome derby.

“Rome is the most beautiful city in the world,” the statement read. “And us players want to look good in front of the whole world.

“On Sunday, everyone will look at us and we want to show that Rome is not a racist city.

“We hope that all Romans will enjoy the show.”

Violence has marred recent Derby della Capitale’s and the players hope this show of support can help dampen some of the hostility surrounding this historic match.

Chile international Contreras joins Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory have revealed Chilean international Pablo Contreras as their marquee signing for the upcoming A-League season.

Contreras - a central defender - has been capped 67 times for his country and joins Victory after making 17 appearances for Greek club Olympiacos in the 2012-13 Super League campaign.

The now 35-year-old represented Chile at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and has also experienced Champions League football with both Olympiacos and PAOK Thessaloniki.

With Daniel Mullen returning to Chinese side Dalian Aerbin after a four-month loan spell with Victory, Postecoglou was ecstatic to add to his defensive options with Adrian Leijer and Nick Ansell the only recognised central defenders.

"We are thrilled to welcome Pablo to Melbourne Victory and there´s great excitement around what he can bring to the club," Postecoglou said.

"Pablo is a high quality central defender who will be an important part of our journey towards an A-League Championship, and, hopefully, our upcoming Asian Champions League campaign."

The veteran had been linked with the club for a number of weeks as Victory coach Ange Postecoglou pursued a marquee to replace Argentine Marcos Flores, who left Melbourne for the Central Coast Mariners.

Contreras will have his first training season with Victory on Tuesday and is expected to be available in the squad travelling to Tasmania for the pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers on September 29.

Inicial 2013: four goals but no winners from Saturday’s two matches.

Saturday featured just two matches in the Primera División, and both ended in 1-1 draws following late goals. First up, Olimpo were held by Belgrano in Bahía Blanca, shooting themselves in the foot after taking the lead with just twelve minutes to play. Later in the evening, Arsenal de Sarandí conceded a stoppage time equaliser away to Rosario Central, with legendary Uruguayan journeyman Sebastián Abreu pouncing on a rare goalkeeping slip-up from Cristian Campestrini.


Olimpo 1-1 Belgrano

Olimpo fell asleep here, and it cost them their second win of the campaign; after Ezequiel Cerutti had fired them into a late lead, it took Belgrano just a couple of minutes to get back on level terms thanks to Carlos Bueno’s header.

Rosario Central 1-1 Arsenal de Sarandí

Arsenal took an early lead in Rosario, thanks to Jonathan Gómez, and looked comfortable on it for most of the game, but as Central started to throw more and more forward as the second half wore on, Campestrini became a key player for the visitors. When he failed to hold a shot two minutes into stoppage time, Abreu was on hand to slam home the rebound. A minute later, the Uruguayan could have won the game for Central, but Campestrini made a better job of his save.
