Angelici, preocupado por lesiones

BUENOS AIRES -- El presidente de Boca, Daniel Angelici, admitió este lunes estar preocupado por la cantidad de jugadores del plantel que sufrieron "lesiones musculares" y afirmó que tendrán "una reunión con los médicos y el cuerpo técnico" para hablar del tema.

"Seguro vamos a tener una reunión con los médicos y el cuerpo técnico porque son muchas lesiones musculares. Hay muchos desgarros y lo estamos viendo con atención", dijo Angelici en una entrevista con radio La Red.

Angelici se mostró preocupado por la cantidad de lesiones que sufrieron jugadores de Boca en lo que va del año y cuyo último caso fue el de Ribair Rodríguez, quien se perderá el Superclásico ante River debido a un desgarro en el aductor derecho.

La de Rodríguez fue la segunda lesión muscular en lo que va del semestre y la decimosexta de un futbolista del plantel profesional en el mismo período. Desde que Carlos Bianchi regresó al club, fueron 42 las lesiones de futbolistas del primer equipo.

Además, apuntó nuevamente contra el gobierno nacional al afirmar que los clubes dificilmente podrán luchar contra las barras bravas si no hay una "decisión política" desde el Estado.

"No me voy a cansar de decirlo, es una decisión política del Estado que tiene poder de policía para hacerlo, y los dirigentes tenemos que acompañar", respondió Angelici al ser consultado sobre la posibilidad de los clubes de erradicar la violencia en el fútbol.

Según detalló Angelici, mientras el gobierno nacional no convoque a los dirigentes para hablar "seriamente" del tema no hay solución posible.

"Mientras no nos convoquen a sentarnos seriamente, a cambiar alguna legislación y sentirnos respaldados políticamente, me parece que sólo se habla cuando se pierden vidas humanas innecesarias y se está unos dias en los medios y luego desaparecen", disparó Angelici

Rubén Forestello: "Quería renunciar"

BUENOS AIRES -- El entrenador de Colón de Santa Fe, Rubén Forestello, contó este lunes que tras perder frente a Tigre sintió "que tenía que renunciar" pero los jugadores y los dirigentes lo "convencieron" de que siga, aunque afirmó que no sabe qué hará si pierden frente a Arsenal.

"Ayer sentí que tenía que renunciar, lo que pasó en el campo de juego me dolió mucho. En el vestuario hablé con dirigentes y jugadores, quería renunciar, pero me convencieron. Fue reconfortante que me pidieran que siga", dijo Forestello en una entrevista con radio La Red.

El técnico sostuvo que "quería darle la posibilidad a los dirigentes para que busquen otro técnico. El fútbol en Argentina vive dentro de una locura, no sé qué voy a hacer si perdemos contra Arsenal".

Con esa última frase, Forestello dejó la puerta abierta a un posible paso al costado si es que su equipo no logra ganarle como local a Arsenal el lunes, por la décima fecha del Torneo Inicial.

El equipo "sabalero" sumó ante Tigre su cuarta derrota consecutiva y marcha en el puesto 16, con apenas 10 puntos.

Montenegro: "Nos falta regularidad"

BUENOS AIRES -- El mediocampista y capitán de Independiente, Daniel Montenegro, se mostró optimista este lunes con el presente del equipo al afirmar que les "falta regularidad, pero la mejoría se va notando".

"No va a salir de un día para otro todo perfecto, pero esta levantada ayuda, aunque todavia falta. Nos falta la regularidad pero la mejoría se va notando", dijo Rolfi en una entrevista con radio La Red.

Desde la llegada de Omar De Felippe como sucesor de Miguel Brindisi Independiente cosechó tres triunfos y la misma cantidad de empates, luego de un muy mal comienzo.

Para Montenegro será clave "apuntar al lote de arriba y encararlo (a la segunda parte del torneo) con esta mentalidad".

El ex Huracán entiende que el primer semestre será clave para terminar de conocer la categoría y a los rivales, y en esa tarea considera fundamental la presencia de De Felippe.

"Hay que conocer bien la categoria y Omar nos ha ayudado mucho, el juego lo vamos a ir adquiriendo", precisó Montenegro.

Independiente se encuentra cerca de la mitad de la tabla, a nueve puntos de la cima, pero con otro semblante desde la llegada de De Felippe, que les permite mirar con ilusión el futuro inmediato.

El equipo de Avellaneda abrirá el viernes la undécima fecha del torneo frente a Unión de Santa Fe, en el estadio Libertadores de América.

Mercado, sobre el Superclásico

BUENOS AIRES -- El defensor de River Plate Gabriel Mercado reconoció este lunes que el hecho de jugar en el estadio Monumental y sólo con público local, les genera "la responsabilidad" de ganar el Superclásico del próximo domingo.

"Por ser locales, tenemos la responsabilidad de ganar el partido frente a Boca. Salir a buscar el partido es la mejor forma de hacerlo, que es lo que pretende nuestro técnico, y darle una alegría a nuestra gente. Tenemos buenas herramientas para complicar a Boca", señaló Mercado en declaraciones a Rock and Closs.

"Más allá de la posición en la que lleguemos al encuentro, con Boca es un partido aparte. Imagino un encuentro trabado, pero lo que es seguro es que vamos a ir a buscar el arco rival desde el vamos. Es la mejor forma de poder llegar al triunfo, con juego y actitud", insistió.

Y finalmente confió: "Ayer, redondeamos una buena semana, después de pasar en la Copa y vencer a Lanús. Esas victorias nos encaminan bien hacia el superclásico. Sabíamos que para mantenernos con chances en el torneo local, no podíamos perder más puntos. Ahora estamos a seis de Newell´s y todavía tenemos que ir a jugar a su cancha. La posibilidad de alcanzarlos está".

River y Boca se enfrentarán el domingo desde las 18.15 en el estadio Monumental, por la décima fecha del Torneo Inicial.

PLATEAS AGOTADAS

Hinchas de River agotaron en cuestión de horas las plateas San Martín y Belgrano baja y media que el club puso a la venta con un valor de 800 pesos, para el Superclásico con Boca Juniors del domingo próximo.

Los simpatizantes no socios madrugaron y algunos hasta pasaron parte de una noche de bajas temperaturas a la intemperie, para ser de los primeros en llegar a las boleterías que dan a la avenida Figueroa Alcorta.

La cantidad de localidades puestas a la venta hoy no fue informada oficialmente, aunque sí el club publicó en su sitio web oficial que quedaron tickets disponibles para la Centenario Alta a un precio de 350 pesos.

Por su parte, los socios, que podrían canjear las entradas vía internet a partir de esta tarde, desde las 18, tuvieron muchos problemas debido a que el sitio web colapsó minutos después del comienzo.

Las redes sociales fueron el lugar elegido por los hinchas para descargar su bronca ante la imposibilidad de obtener sus entradas.

El canje, que no es un problema nuevo para los socios de River, mostró sus primeros problemas hoy pocos minutos después de las 18, cuando cerca de 50 mil hinchas ingresaron a la web para obtener un lugar en las tribunas Centenario alta, media y baja.

La situación empeoró a partir de las 19.30, cuando comenzó el canje para la platea Sívori media y baja, y continuó desde las 21, con el intento de conseguir un lugar en la popular de ese sector.

Además, los hinchas "millonarios" descargaban su bronca debido a que no podían conseguir el ticket pero en ese mismo momento, en distintos sitios de internet se ofrecían entradas por una suma cercana a los 2000 pesos.

Al superclásico sólo se permitirá el ingreso de hinchas de River, tras la confirmación de la veda para el público visitante, que se extenderá al menos por el resto del año.

Víctor Blanco asumió en Racing

BUENOS AIRES -- El flamante presidente de Racing Club, Víctor Blanco, aseguró que trabajará para poner al club "de pie", al tiempo que prometió "no defraudar" en una función que, según admitió, nunca pensó desempeñar.

"Hay que poner a Racing de pie y conseguir los resultados", remarcó Blanco, quien asumió este lunes como titular de la institución de Avellaneda tras las renuncias de Gastón Cogorno y Rodolfo Molina, ex presidente y vice primero, respectivamente.

En su primera conferencia de prensa como presidente de Racing, Blanco subrayó que la interna que desembocó en su asunción "debe servir de aprendizaje" y deseó "que nunca más se repita".

"Este es el cargo más importante para un racinguista", sostuvo quien llegó a la presidencia de un club cuyo presente deportivo, esencialmente el futbolístico, no es de lo mejor porque el equipo está hundido en lo más profundo del Torneo Inicial.

En esa dirección, indicó: "La parte deportiva es la más difícil. En lo administrativo me tengo mucha confianza. Hay mucho para hacer, pero no es tan difícil. Lo deportivo no depende sólo de nosotros".

Por otro lado, dijo que Cogorno "cumplió con lo pautado", en tanto prometió "no defraudar" al mundo Racing.

"Voy a poner todo el empeño para llevar a Racing al lugar que se merece. Vamos a trabajar y a poner todo de nosotros para salir de este momento más difícil", afirmó.

Al mismo tiempo, dijo que por sus tareas habituales "no estaba preparado" para ser presidente de Racing, pero que ahora, una vez en funciones, tratará de "sacar el club adelante".

Liga MX Roundup: America strengthens grip on first

Last week, it was still debatable in some circles as to which Liga MX team was the best thus far this season. After all, Club America hadn´t played as many games as other teams, so if its games in hand turned out to be losses, perhaps their gaudy win record would be compromised. Thus, it was arguable that Leon might actually be a better team overall.

Then, when the games were played, it was Club America who triumphed yet again, beating Veracruz 1-0. Leon fell short in their own 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul.

One goal changed everything in both matches, though what those goals really confirmed was what many already suspected -- Club America is at the pinnacle of the league´s teams at present. Though America and Leon still sit in the same places in the standings as they did last week, one and two, respectively, the Aguilas have extended their lead at the top. America, despite still having played only 10 games total, boasts 25 points. Leon, with 12 games played, claims 22.

For Club America, the battle now is less about supremacy in the standings, because that´s ultimately meaningless in a playoff system. Instead, America´s greatest enemy is the possibility of the club´s own hubris impeding the progress to keep improving. The Aguilas must remember that in the playoffs, one bad game, one terrible loss, is all it takes to kill the Liga MX Apertura 2013 trophy dream.

For Toluca, however, a great game can make a big difference. Toluca assured itself of a healthy goal differential by whacking Atlante 7-1 and moving into third place in the standings. The match was a bit of a mess as three players were sent off, but no one can say that Toluca didn’t make the most of the opportunity. Five other teams are level with Toluca in overall points, but such a gaudy goal total has put Toluca into a prime playoff position. The Escarlatas have scored 27 times this Apertura season, the highest total in Liga MX for any team.

Tigres is one team that may regret that so many of its players are national team caliber. It was Lucas Lobos who started the club´s comeback against Queretaro after Tigres gave up two early goals. Tigres eventually pulled even in a 2-2 draw. As the playoffs start to come into focus, however, last year’s nearly undefeated squad is still adrift of a playoff position. Missing players for El Tri matches is only going to add to the club’s struggle to catch up over the next five weeks.

Another club that may find itself outside of the playoff picture is Tijuana. Last year’s Apertura champs lost 2-0 versus Puebla and are now four spots below a playoff berth. Puebla, meanwhile, is only one notch below the coveted eighth and final liguilla slot.

That particular Liga MX game was notable partly for the large number of American players on the field. Herculez Gomez, Paul Arriola, Edgar Castillo and Joe-Benny Corona all featured for Tijuana, while Puebla had Michael Orozco and DaMarcus Beasley.

As long as Santos Laguna has Oribe Peralta, it can count on goals. The striker has given his club the confidence to face adversity well. The Laguneros were able to come back from an early goal down versus Morelia, scoring a quick trio to end the match in their favor 3-1.

With a comeback effort of its own, Chiapas FC took down Pachuca 2-1 to move up to 20 points and that five-team logjam of clubs that will likely make the playoffs.

Thanks to a 1-0 victory over Monterrey, Pumas is no longer dead last in the league. However, the club still needs to get some lessons in scoring from Toluca. Pumas has scored only five times this entire season. It’s such a pitiful goal total that even Atlante, last in the table, has double that.

Pitiful isn’t a bad enough word, though, to describe the season Guadalajara is having. Pathetic comes closer. Marco Fabian, who was razzed by fans earlier in the season when he decided not to transfer away from the club, might be wondering why he bothered to stay. He is scoring goals again - depositing the late equalizer that pulled Chivas level with Atlas 1-1 on Sunday - but the club is merely treading water in this doomed Apertura.

There´s a chance to salvage some pride and redemption from the clasico match versus Club America next week, but rarely has the gulf between the teams loomed so large. Club America is flush with its recent championship and league points, while Guadalajara is out of the playoff picture for the second time this year.

Partidazo: Vélez Sársfield 1-0 Húracan, Clausura 2009

On 5 July 2009, fans at the Estadio Amalfitani were witness to one of the most epic and controversial games in the history of Argentine club football. The match was the very last game of the Clausura 2009 tournament which had fatefully matched the top two sides in an end of season decider.

The hosts Vélez Sársfield were in 2nd place with 37 points having only lost one game all season. Their visitors Huracán were top of the league with 38 points, and therefore only needed to record a draw to take their first championship title since 1973.

First Half

Ángel Cappa´s Huracán team were the neutral´s favourites, having played mesmerising football throughout the tournament featuring the teenage talents of Matías De Federico and Javier Pastore.

Huracán had dominated the opening exchanges, having had a goal from Eduardo Domínguez wrongly disallowed for offside. The first extraordinary event started around 19 minutes into the game when referee Gabriel Brazenas made the decision to withdraw the teams from the field when a severe hailstorm covered the pitch in large hailstones. During the interruption the Vélez ground staff used air blowers to clear the penalty areas and the teams returned to the field after a 28 minute delay, with the majority of the pitch still covered in large chunks of ice.

The TV clocks had carried on rolling through the stoppage and the game resumed on 47 minutes, with the assistant referee displaying 26 minutes stoppage time on the board. In the 52nd minute of the first half Vélez were awarded a penalty for a foul on Maxi Moralez but Uruguayan striker Hernan López´s strike was saved by Huracán goalkeeper Gaston Monzón.

In the 67th minute of the first half Eduardo Domínguez came agonisingly close to opening the scoring for Huracán but his header hit the crossbar and Defederico could not follow it in. The referee finally brought an end to the first half after 73 minutes.

In the second half Vélez continued trying for the goal they needed while Huracán launched quick fire counter attacks. The managers signaled their intentions, Vélez Manager Ricardo Gareca sacrificed a defender to bring on striker Joaquín Larrivey then Cappa removed a midfielder to bring on an additional defender to protect the point they needed to take the championship.

Late in the 2nd half the referee ignored a professional foul by Huracán defender Carlos Arano on Luis Cubero and Cubero´s violent reaction, both players should have been sent off and from this point the game descended into farce with long stoppages and appeals against every one of Brazenas´ poor decisions.

On 83 minutes Larrivey dived in to a challenge with the Huracán goalkeeper getting nowhere near the ball, leaving both players injured in the penalty area. A clear free kick to the defending team, yet Brazenas let the play continue, with Maxi Morales firing into the unguarded net.

As Morales raced off in celebration, the Huracán players surrounded Brazenas appealing against the goal. Brazenas was unmoved and the only action he took was to give goalscorer Moralez his 2nd yellow card of the game for removing his shirt during his celebration.

At the end of the 90 minutes the assistant put up the board for 13 minutes of additional time, due to all of the stoppages and injuries. As the 13 minutes expired several players got involved in a brawl, Brazenas again failed to take action against the offenders and after 60 minutes of 2nd half action he blew the final whistle to cue wild celebrations at Vélez Sársfield´s 7th league championship.

Aftermath

As is often the case Huracán sold their two teenage talismans as well as key midfielder Mario Bolatti in the summer transfer window, De Federico departing to Corinthians of Brazil and Pastore joining Palermo of Italy. Cappa stayed on as Huracán manager but resigned due to poor results the following season. In 2010 he was chosen to take on the hugely important task of saving giants River Plate from relegation.

Cata Díaz podría jugar el Superclásico

BUENOS AIRES -- El defensor Daniel `Cata` Díaz, en plena recuperación de un desgarro, entrenó este martes a la par del grupo y crecen las posibilidades de que pueda lucir la camiseta de Boca Juniors el domingo próximo en ocasión del clásico ante River Plate, por la décima fecha del Torneo Inicial.

El `Cata` Díaz se lesionó hace 16 días en el partido que Boca le ganó a Racing Club por 2-0 (séptima jornada), cuando sufrió un desgarro en el isquiotibial izquierdo sobre el final del encuentro y le dejó su lugar a Matías Caruzzo, y se estimaba que su recuperación demandaría al menos 21 días.

Sin embargo, el zaguero catamarqueño evolucionó antes de lo previsto y su inclusión en el equipo sería una buena noticia para el DT Carlos Bianchi, quien deberá rearmar la línea defensiva tras una nueva lesión, la del recio zaguero uruguayo Ribair Rodríguez, desgarrado el domingo último en el triunfo sobre Quilmes (2-0).

De manera que si el `Cata` Díaz está en condiciones para el partido excluyente del domingo en el estadio Monumental de Núñez, ocupará la zaga central junto a Claudio "Chiqui" Pérez, mientras que los laterales serán Jesús Méndez y Nahuel Zárate.

En tanto, durante la primera sesión de entrenamientos de la semana, en el regreso a las prácticas luego del triunfo ante Quilmes, el plantel realizó una rutina en el gimnasio del club y luego se dividió entre los que jugaron ante los `cerveceros` y aquellos que no lo hicieron.

En ese contexto, luego de la rutina en el gimnasio, Juan Román Riquelme, Fernando Gago y Jesús Méndez no continuaron con el paso siguiente impuesto por el "profe" Juan Manuel Alfano, que consistió y de ligeros trotes alrededor de una de las canchas, y también piques cortos.

Asimismo, otro de los lesionados del plantel, el polifuncional Cristian Erbes, demostró una buena evolución del desgarro que sufrió hace nueve días en ocasión el partido ante Argentinos Juniors, en el empate sin goles en La Paternal.

El `Pichi` Erbes trotó, efectuó piques largos y cortos, todo junto al kinesiólogo Leandro Bechakian, y se estima que podría regresar dentro de dos fechas ante Rosario Central, en `La Bombonera`.

En el grupo que hizo fútbol reducido se alistaron con pechera violeta Manuel Vicentini, Gabriel Guerra, Guillermo Burdisso, Franco Fragapane, Gonzalo Escalante y Francisco Di Franco, mientras que con camiseta azul se alistaron Sebastián D`Angelo, Nicolás Blandi, Franco Cángele, Claudio Riaño y Alan Aguirre.

Boca practicará mañana en doble turno, primero desde las 9 y luego a las 16.30.

Ecuador: Fidel Martínez and Junior Sornoza have been called up to the national team

Rueda called up the base of players who have played much of the qualifiers and has included youngsters Martinez, 23, and Sornoza, 19.

Ecuador will welcome Uruguay on October 11th and on the 15th will travel to Santiago to face Chile.

We´re going "to focus on these six points. First this match against Uruguay. It all depends on us" to qualify, the coach said at a press conference.

Ecuador and Uruguay currently sit on 22 points, fourth place in the table.

Already classified, Argentina leads the standings with 29 points, followed by Colombia (26), Chile (24), Ecuador and Uruguay. The regional qualifying grants four tickets to Brazil-2014 and the fifth place team a playoff spot.

Rueda justified the inclusion of Martinez and Sornoza as alternatives in attack, implying that his biggest concern is the lack of scoring on the team.

"Uruguay is a strong group, but we have every ability to get past them (...) and make a difference with goals which is what ultimately counts," he said.

The match against Uruguay will have Brazilians as referees despite the request of Ecuador to FIFA to appoint refs not from South America for the last rounds.

The day of the game "will not be the referee. We know that there is already a history that, unfortunately, undermines the transparency of South American football, but we must focus on the game to achieve the goal," Rueda said when questioned about FIFA´s negative answer to Ecuador.

Peru proposes to FIFA to play in another stadium in front of fans in their match against Bolivia after the sanction imposed by FIFA to play behind closed doors in Lima, reported the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).

"We have immediately communicated with FIFA. On Monday or Tuesday we will raise the appeal. They have applied to us the more lenient penalty," FPF president, Manuel Burga, told RPP radio.

"Our idea is to allow us to play in front of people. We expect to play in another registered stadium (Alejandro Villanueva or Monumental). We will analyze what alternatives to take," said the leader of Peruvian soccer after commenting that the judgment can be appealed.

This Friday, FIFA notified the FPF of the sanction imposed due to the entering on the field in the Nacional stadium two fans who tried to attack the Argentine referee Patrick Loustau, who reffed the match between Peru and Uruguay on Sept. 6.

José Alberto López, one of the two fans who invaded the pitch to confront the referee, showed no remorse for his behavior and said that this sanction is what the judge sought after a "lousy reffing job".

"I think I did well, I respected my country. Now all that remains is for the Federation to punish the referee. They have punished the stadium and the fans, but him? Who punishes him?" questioned Lopez.

In addition to the punishment of playing behind closed doors, FIFA imposed a monetary fine on the FPF of 20,000 Swiss francs (about $22,000).

In this World Cup qualifier in which Uruguay defeated Peru 2-1, FIFA officials who attended the match said there were "a number of serious incidents by local fans," says the text of the Swiss-based organization.

Peruvian police prevented the referee Patrick Loustau and his two assistants from being attacked by the two fans who entered the pitch at the end of the match played at the Nacional stadium in Lima.

Also a large group of fans threw several empty plastic bottles at the referee as he left the field protected by police shields.

In the seventeenth round of the World Cup qualifiers, Peru will visit Argentina in Buenos Aires on October 11, and four days later will welcome Bolivia to Lima at the Nacional stadium.

Peru has failed to qualify for the World Cup since the one held in Spain in 1982.
