Newell’s march on as San Lorenzo lose ground

Newell’s Old Boys continue to impress and establish themselves as the team to beat in Argentina with yet another routine victory. The league leaders travelled to Quilmes and second half goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Diego Mateo gave them a fourth consecutive win. The win marks Newell’s best start to a season and the best start for a new manager for Alfredo Berti.

San Lorenzo were unable to keep pace as they were held to a goalless draw in the Nuevo Gasometro by Tigre. Despite dominating the game, San Lorenzo were unable to find the breakthrough and now find themselves 3 points adrift of Newell’s at the top.

Saturday’s other game saw Olimpo snatch a late draw at home with Estudiantes. Carlos Auzgui’s second half header looked like it would put an end to Estudiantes’ winless streak but Matias Sarulyte’s 89th minute equaliser means its 6 without a win for Pellegrini’s men.

Apedrearon el micro de Quilmes

BUENOS AIRES -- El arquero suplente de Quilmes Silvio Dulcich sufrió un corte en una pierna a causa de la rotura de una de las ventanillas del micro por un piedrazo recibido en la autopista Buenos Aires-La Plata a la altura de la localidad de Bernal.

El corte recibido por Dulcich no fue de importancia, y no le impidió al arquero formar parte del banco de suplentes en el encuentro ante Newell´s, según informó la secretaría de prensa de Quilmes.

La semana pasada el micro que trasladaba a Quilmes, en esa oportunidad del Gran Buenos Aires hacia la Capital Federal para enfrentar a Boca Juniors, también fue atacado a piedrazos, resultando lastimado el volante Miguel Caneo, quien sufrió un corte en una ceja.

El encuentro entre el Cervecero y Newell´s se llevó a cabo en estadio Centenario de Quilmes, a partir de las 18.

"Jugamos igual en todas las canchas"

BUENOS AIRES -- El entrenador Alfredo Berti afirmó que su Newell´s Old Boys lidera el Torneo Inicial apostando "a jugar en todas las canchas por igual".

"Siempre apostamos a jugar, en todas las canchas por igual, y cada partido que afrontamos es un desafío nuevo. Eso evita a su vez que pensemos en partidos a futuro", declaró Berti, a dos semanas del clásico contra Rosario Central.

Ante la repregunta por las sensaciones que le genera la cercanía de tal desafío que conmueve a la ciudad de Rosario, el director técnico de los rojinegros respondió sin apartarse en absoluto de su línea: "Recién ahora empiezo a pensar en River, el próximo adversario".

Sobre la condición física de Gabriel Heinze y Víctor Figueroa, quienes fueron titulares, pero habían estado en duda por distintas afecciones, el conductor precisó que los esperaron "hasta lo último y valió la pena, porque los dos respondieron bien".

"Esta semana vamos a ver cómo evoluciona David Trezeguet. Esperamos que pueda trabajar con normalidad para ver si vuelve en la próxima fecha. Todo lo que se ponga en cancha tiene que estar al ciento por ciento", aseguró en conferencia de prensa.

Acerca de la victoria sobre Quilmes, el adiestrador, comentó: "Fue un partido difícil que se resolvió con mucha concentración".

"Creo que en el segundo tiempo pudimos haber hecho un gol más", concluyó.

Quilmes: Vivas se retiró sin hablar

BUENOS AIRES -- El entrenador de Quilmes, Nelson Vivas, se retiró del estadio Centenario sin hacer declaraciones a la prensa después de la derrota ante Newell´s Old Boys 2-0, por la 10ma. fecha del torneo Inicial, pero seguirá en su puesto a pesar de los rumores que lo daban afuera del club.

"Estuve reunido con él y sigue normal, sin problemas, dirigiendo al equipo y el lunes vuelven a los entrenamientos", el vicepresidente de Quilmes, Calos Coloma.

De esta forma, el entrenador continuará en su cargo a pesar de arrastrar una magra racha de cinco partidos sin ganar, con cuatro derrotas, y sin marcar goles.

En ese sentido, el mediocampista Miguel Caneo dijo: "el entrenador cuenta con todo nuestro apoyo".

"En el fútbol argentino, cuando tenés una mala racha, todos piensan en el técnico y nosotros le podemos dar todo el apoyo pero si en la cancha no hacemos lo que tenemos que resolver ese apoyo no sirve nada", concluyó el ex Boca Juniors.

Pizzi: "No generamos suficiente"

BUENOS AIRES -.- El director técnico de San Lorenzo, Juan Antonio Pizzi, fue autocrítico esta noche, al afirmar que su equipo "no generó situaciones para merecer un gol" en el empate, de local, ante Tigre (0-0), por la 10ma. fecha del torneo Inicial de fútbol.

"Propusimos, intentamos, tuvimos la pelota, pero no generamos situaciones para merecer un gol. Y encima un par de veces quedamos expuestos en defensa", analizó Pizzi.

"El fútbol es difícil para cualquier equipo. Tuvimos volúmen de juego y posesión de la pelota, pero no llegamos", reiteró.

Pizzi, además, habló sobre su rival: "Ellos no cometieron ningún error y se llevaron lo que vinieron a buscar", puntualizó.

"No tuvimos la frescura de otros partidos en los últimos metros. Pero en eso tuvo mucho que ver el juego de Tigre", remarcó.

Por último el DT se refirió al goleador Martín Cauteruccio, quien está lesionado. "Lo extrañamos desde el día que se lesionó, pero nos vamos a arreglar sin él. Tenemos jugadores para que no se note su ausencia".

Auzqui: "Perdimos dos puntos"

BAHIA BLANCA -- El delantero de Estudiantes de La Plata Carlos Auzqui consideró el sábado que su equipo perdió ante Olimpo en Bahía Blanca "dos puntos importantes" para prenderse en la carrera paran pelear por el campeonato.

"Perdimos dos puntos importantes para arrimarnos a la pelea por el campeonato, por eso nos vamos calientes", admitió Auzqui, una de las figuras del partido.

"Habíamos hablado en el entretiempo que teníamos que hacer todo lo posible para no sufrir en una cancha chica con la pelota parada y justamente de una pelota parada llegó el gol de Olimpo", precisó Auzqui, tras el 1-1 que los locales rescataron sobre el epílogo del cotejo.

Por su parte el ex Estudiantes Matías Sarulyte, autor del gol de Olimpo, reconoció: "Tuve sensaciones encontradas cuando hice el gol. En cuanto al resultado a nosotros no nos cambia nada. Queríamos ganar para cortar esta mala racha. Ahora tenemos que comenzar a trabajar con miras a los próximos dos partidos (Vélez Sarsfield y Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata) que serán de visitante".

Sociedad target Casemiro loan

Real Sociedad have held talks with Real Madrid to sign Brazilian youngster Casemiro on loan, according to Radio Nacional de Espana, as reported by Football Espana.

La Real are short on central midfielders after losing Esteban Granero - on loan from Queens Park Rangers - to injury.

The 26 year-old, who was brought in as a replacement for Asier Illarramendi after his departure to Real Madrid, ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Radio Nacional de Espana insists Los Merengues president Florentino Pérez has met with Sociedad’s Jokin Apperibay to discuss a temporary deal for Casemiro.

The 21 year-old has made just three appearances under new coach Carlo Ancelotti this season.

Sociedad’s first choice was Barcelona’s Jonathan dos Santos, who they targeted in the summer.

Talks for the Mexican have, however, proven problematic, with Apperibay now hopeful he can find an agreement to net Casemiro instead.

Brazilian squad for Under 17 World Cup announced

The Brazilian squad for the Under 17 World Cup has been officially announced by manager Alexandre Gallo.

The squad include highly-rated players Abner, Danilo, Kenedy, Gabriel and Índio. Brazil are in Group A, along with Slovakia, Honduras and the host team United Arab Emirates.

The team will play a friendly against Croatia next week before debuting in the tournament against Slovakia.

Hernandez heads Mexico roster for key WCQs

MEXICO CITY – The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) announced Thursday a 26-man roster for the national team’s final two matchdays of World Cup Qualifying in the CONCACAF region. It will be Mexico’s first games under the tutelage of Victor Manuel Vucetich after being named head coach on September 12.

Javier Hernandez highlights a selection that is comprised of 22 players from LIGA MX and four based in Europe. The Manchester United forward leads the Tricolor in scoring for Brazil 2014 with 5 goals, but he has not found the net in the Hexagonal since grabbing a brace in a 2-2 draw at Honduras on March 22; a span of six games.

A surprise inclusion was Leon defender Jonny Magallon, who has not played in a World Cup qualifier for nearly four years. The 31-year-old’s last outing in the competition came at Trinidad & Tobago (2-2) on October 14, 2009.

Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, with only two appearances in this qualifying cycle, also earned a recall.

Damian Alvarez (right calf), Hector Moreno (right hamstring) and goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco (left shoulder) are all out due to injuries.

The squad will convene starting on Sunday at the FMF’s Centro de Alto Rendimiento in preparation for critical matches against visiting Panama (October 11) and host Costa Rica (October 15).

Mexico currently sits in fifth place on eight points, behind Panama on goal difference. In order to gain an automatic spot in next year’s World Cup finals, it must overcome third-place Honduras (11 points).

The United States (16 points) and Costa Rica (15 points) have already secured two of CONCACAF’s 3.5 berths.

The ´Superclásico´ between Boca-River will be played without visiting fans for the first time

For the first time in the history of Argentine football a derby between River Plate and Boca Juniors will be played without visiting fans for security reasons.

Boca fans will not be present in Sunday´s derby against River at the Monumental stadium, which will be played for the first time without visiting fans in an Argentine tournament following incessant violence.

The ´superclasico´ was almost always more attractive by the spectacle in the stands and the dueling chants between the fans of the two biggest clubs in the country.

If the majority of hooligans in Argentine football have become true criminal organizations, which are financed by illegal businesses such as ticket sales, then the hooligans of Boca and River, by their massiveness, are true crime corporations.

The government has provided about 2,000 security forces for the derby on Sunday. Although there will be no fans of Boca in the Monumental stadium about half of the security forces are to make sure that the "xeneizes´ don´t follow through on their threats to attack the bus that will take their team to the stadium.

Berges said the hooligans will be fought by "not giving in to their pressures and with a joint effort between security agencies and the justice department."

The hooligans "have very distinct relationships with political officials, trade unionists, leaders of football clubs and have gotten impunity," said the former judge, who as a supporter of Boca lamented the ban on visiting fans, but said it is necessary.

Five people have been killed so far in 2013 in violence related to football in Argentina, and every weekend there are clashes but now there are fights between fans of the same club over illegal businesses.

Several leaders of the hooligans of Boca and River are in jail for murder or other serious crimes, but they are replaced almost immediately or continue to run the organization from prison.

The prohibition of visiting fans entering the stadiums was ratified by the government just days before the derby.

Between 6,000 and 10,000 policemen every weekend

The prohibition has been in effect since June 11, after the murder of Javier Gerez, a 42 year old fan of Lanús who was shot with a rubber bullet by police at close range.

"I understand the anger of many fans who want to see their teams playing on the road. But this is not going to be resolved until the Justice apply the law to those who generate significant illegal businesses around a football game," Berni said.

Every weekend there are "between 6,000 and 10,000 police" to guard the stadium and "prevent the many businesses that promote hooliganism," said the official.

On Sunday, some 65,000 River fans will be in the Monumental stands decked out in their red and white, while only ten (not counting the goalkeeper) will wear the jersey of the ´xeneizes´, including star Juan Roman Riquelme and Fernando Gago.

Besides the five deaths in 2013, there were 11 deaths in 2012 and a cumulative total of 179 since 1972, according to the organization Save Football.
