Pumas lose again to sink to the bottom

Pumas miserable Apertura continued earlier with their seventh defeat and their fifth at home to leave them bottom of the table. Oribe Peralta’s solitary goal in the second half was enough to give Santos Laguna victory and condemn Pumas to another loss. The home side did create some chances and late on had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out as it was judged to have been bundled over the line unfairly. The win leaves Santos well placed for the liguilla

Deportivo Saprissa remain unbeaten in the Costa Rica Primera Division after a 3-1 triumph over UCR, while title rivals Herediano also won.

David Ramirez struck twice for Saprissa, either side of Diego Madrigal´s goal, while Lucas Gomez scored for UCR, as the San Jose-based club claimed their eighth win of the season.

The victory took Saprissa to 28 points, although both second-placed Herediano and third side Alajuelense kept the pressure on the league leaders with wins over Puntarenas and Limon respectively.

In San Jose, Ramirez gave Saprissa the lead in the 16th minute and it was 2-0 at half-time following Madrigal´s 25th-minute effort.

Ramirez effectively ended the contest with his second goal just before the hour mark and although Gomez pulled one back for the visitors in the 63rd minute, Saprissa held on to stay unbeaten through 12 games this season.

In Heredia, the home side overcame a plucky Puntarenas side with three goals in 11 second-half minutes.

Jorge Arias put Herediano on top just before the half-hour mark with the opening goal of the game and although Puntarenas struck back thanks to Daniel Colindres´ penalty five minutes later, Minor Diaz ensured the hosts led 2-1 at half-time when he scored in the 40th minute.

Venezuela Primera Division Wrap: El Vigia continue table climb

Atletico El Vigia´s rise up the Venezuelan Primera Division table has continued after a 1-1 draw away to Deportivo Petare.

Having claimed a breakthrough win last week over Yaracuyanos to move off the bottom of the table, El Vigia were on the verge of another three points until Petare equalised with 12 minutes remaining on Sunday.

But the point was still handy for El Vigia as they moved up to 16th above Deportivo La Guaira, who lost 1-0 to Aragua.

El Vigia have seven points from nine matches this season and could rise further up the standings when they host 15th-placed Zulia in a fortnight.

Norman Cabrera gave El Vigia the lead in the 69th minute at Petare´s Estadio Olimpico de la UCV but the home side claimed a share of the points when Felix Casseres scored nine minutes later.

Deportivo Anzoategui moved to the top of Venezuela´s top tier of football after they claimed their fifth consecutive game unbeaten with a 2-1 victory away to Yaracuyanos.
