Saturday: Cruz Azul deny America and the playoff battle heats up (video)
A rain delay and a waterlogged pitch provided the backdrop to the Clásico Joven between Cruz Azul and Club America and in truth probably did not help the quality of the game. Luis Gabriel Rey’s header gave America the lead just before half time but Luis Perea’s second half header gave Cruz Azul the draw and leaves them well placed for a playoff spot.

Veracruz also stayed in liguilla contention with a 1-0 win over Morelia thanks to Luis Tejada’s last minute goal. The Panamanian striker took advantage of some wayward goalkeeping to lob the ball into the back of the empty net.

With the sides around them winning, Tigres needed a result and they responded well, with a 3-1 win against Atlante. Alan Pulido gave Tigres the lead only for Walter Erviti to wonderfully equalise for Atlante. However, with minutes remaining goals from Pulido and Danilinho ensured the 3 points and with a game in hand means Tigres are in a good position.

Finally, honours were even between Chiapas and Pumas as Lucas Viatri’s headed goal was cancelled out by Luis Garcia’s 89th minute strike.

Sunday: Chivas sink to bottom after yet another loss – plus all the other action

The woeful run of Chivas continued against Pachuca in Guadalajara with another defeat and resulted in equalling a winless streak that dates back to 1994. Rafael Marques Lugo fired Chivas in front following a delightful backheel by Carlos Fierro but Pachuca were quickly level. Jürgen Damm rounded Luis Michel to equalise and then before the break it was two when Othoniel Arce rose to head home from a corner. A limp second half performance was finally ended with minutes remaining by Marco Bueno’s deflected effort making it three.

Puebla kept the pressure on Chiapas in the fight for the playoffs with a win over Atlas. Goals from Carlos Sanchez and Luis Noriega ensured Atlas’s search for a first win of the season goes on.

Toluca and Tijuana could not be separated but it will be Los Xolos who will rue the missed opportunity to close on the teams above in the play0ff places. Toluca played the majority of the game with 10 men after Carlos Rodriguez’s red card but neither side could find a goal.

Costa Rica Primera Division Wrap: Saprissa overhaul Herediano

Deportivo Saprissa reclaimed top spot in the Costa Rica Primera Division on Sunday as Herediano lost again.

Jordan Smith scored a brace of penalties for Deportivo Saprissa as they cruised to a 5-1 win at home to Limon.

The victory moved Ronald Gonzalez´s men top of the table and two points clear after Herediano suffered a second straight loss.

Deportivo Saprissa made a blistering start to their clash at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma.

Josue Martinez, Smith and Diego Madrigal all found the net inside 35 minutes to put 10th-placed Limon on the back foot.

Mayron George gave the visitors hope with his goal just before half-time but Smith restored Deportivo´s three-goal lead from the penalty spot on the hour-mark.

Ariel Rodriguez added polish to the scoreboard with Deportivo´s fifth 11 minutes from full-time.

Herediano slipped to their second consecutive loss after being beaten 3-2 at Santos de Guapiles, who struck late on.

The hosts were behind until the 80th minute when Mario Viquez equalised and his side went on to win thanks to Cristian Lagos´ late strike.

Making matters worse for Herediano, Victor Nunez was sent off in the 90th minute.

A late goal from Daniel Colindres saw Puntarenas to an upset 1-0 win at third-placed Alajuelense.

Perez Zeledon also needed a late goal to secure three points as Henry Cooper´s 80th-minute effort helped them past Carmelita 3-2.

Belen Siglo XXI remain anchored to the bottom of the table after a 1-0 loss at home to UCR and Uruguay came from behind to draw 2-2 at Cartagines.

Colombia Primera A Wrap: Nacional move 10 points clear

Atletico Nacional moved further clear atop the Colombia Primera A as Deportivo Pasto were left to rue two red cards.

Jefferson Duque scored the only goal of the game as league leaders Atletico Nacional claimed a 1-0 win at Once Caldas.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men late in the encounter but Juan Osorio´s men held on to move 10 points clear at the top.

Duque´s 13th-minute goal was enough for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men when Diego Peralta was sent off.

Jonathan Lopera had been red-carded for Once Caldas in the 77th minute – moments before Peralta.

Deportivo Pasto were reduced to nine men and held to a 2-2 draw at home to lowly Atletico Huila, who capitalised on their numerical advantage.

Cesar Hinestroza gave the visitors an early lead before Deportivo Pasto hit back in the eighth minute through Yerry Mina.

Julian Lalinde put them ahead from the penalty spot on 55 minutes before Nicolas Palacios was red-carded.

They were reduced to nine players on 69 minutes when Fram Pacheco was sent off and Atletico Huila took advantage with Cristian Canga scoring an equaliser.

Venezuela Primera Division Wrap: Aragua stun Anzoategui

Aragua stunned Venezuela Primera Division leaders Deportivo Anzoategui on Sunday as Caracas missed their chance to move top.

Deportivo Anzoategui suffered just their second loss in 10 league matches, beaten 2-1 at home to Aragua.

But they remain top of the table, a point clear of Caracas, who were held to a 0-0 draw at Atletico Venezuela.

Rolando Escobar looked to have put the league leaders on track for yet another win when he opened the scoring in the 11th minute against Aragua.

The visitors were level through Jesus Lugo in the first half before Nestor Bareiro struck an 82nd-minute winner.

Caracas were unable to find a winner at Atletico Venezuela, while Zamora are a point off top spot after a 2-1 win over Deportivo La Guaira.

Zamora came from behind at home with Ricardo Clarke and Edson Mendoza scoring after Carlos Suarez had put the visitors ahead.

Gelmin Rivas´ brace led Deportivo Tachira to a resounding 4-0 win over Estudiantes de Merida and Carabobo drew 0-0 at Tucanes.

Deportivo Lara claimed a 2-1 win over Llaneros de Guanare and Trujillanos were far too good for Deportivo Petare in a 3-0 victory.

Darwin Gomez rescued a point for Atletico El Vigia as they drew 1-1 at home to Zulia and Mineros de Guayana secured a 2-1 win at Yaracuyanos
