El líder del Torneo Inicial se prepara

BUENOS AIRES -- De cara al partido que San Lorenzo disputará el próximo sábado, ante Atlético Rafaela, el plantel se entrenó en el Nuevo Gasómetro realizando trabajos físicos y fútbol en espacios reducidos.

Tras cumplir una fecha de suspensión por acumulación de tarjetas amarillas, Julio Buffarini y Walter Kannemann están a disposición de Juan Antonio Pizzi. Sin embargo, es una incógnita si volverán a la titularidad, tras las buenas actuaciones de Mauro Cetto y Emmanuel Más, en el triunfo del Ciclón ante Belgrano.

En el rubro lesionados, Leandro Navarro, con un leve esguince en su tobillo derecho, realizó trabajos de kinesiología junto a Martín Cauteruccio y Gonzalo Verón, ambos recientemente operados de una rotura de ligamentos.

En la mañana del miércoles, el plantel se entrenará a puertas cerrados y todo indica que Pizzi realizará una práctica de fútbol formal, ya con el objetivo de probar los once que jueguen el sábado en Rafaela.

Tras la derrota de Newell´s, frente a Tigre, San Lorenzo quedó posicionado como el único líder del Torneo Inicial. Los próximos tres rivales del Ciclón serán Atlético Rafaela, Estudiantes y Vélez, dándose la particularidad de que existe la posibilidad de que se consagre campeón, en el estadio José Amalfitani, sin la presencia de hinchas.

Independiente no descansó y se prepara

BUENOS AIRES -- A horas de conseguir una nueva victoria en el Torneo del Nacional B, el plantel de Independiente se entrenó en la mañana del martes en el predio de Villa Domínico de cara al partido del próximo sábado, ante Defensa y Justicia, en el marco de la fecha 19.

Quienes tuvieron minutos en el triunfo ante Douglas Haig hicieron ejercicios regenerativos, mientras que los suplentes, con el agregado de algunos juveniles, realizaron una práctica de fútbol formal.

Cristiano Tula y Claudio Morel Rodríguez entrenaron de manera diferenciada del resto del grupo. El zaguero central hizo kinesiología mientras que Morel trotó alrededor del campo de juego y estaría a disposición de Omar De Felippe para el partido ante Defensa.

Durante la mañana del miércoles, De Felippe pactará la primera práctica de fútbol con vistas al partido del sábado. Igualmente, de estar en condiciones los mismos que jugaron ante Douglas, es un hecho que el entrenador pondrá en cancha los mismos once que ganaron los partidos ante Ferro y Douglas Haig.

Independiente tiene 31 puntos en el campeonato del Nacional B, producto de ocho triunfos, siete empates y apenas tres derrotas. El conjunto de Avellaneda no pierde desde la fecha 12 frente a Almirante Brown y el sábado disputará un partido clave ante el actual líder del torneo.

Facundo Parra piensa en seguir escalando con Independiente

BUENOS AIRES -- El delantero de Independiente Facundo Parra, autor del primer gol en la victoria del lunes ante Douglas Haig de Pergamino (2-0), se propuso el martes "ganar los nueve puntos que restan en el año para quedar lo más arriba posible y acceder a los puestos de ascenso".

Así lo aseguró en la vuelta al trabajo después de la octava victoria en el campeonato: "Ahora trataremos de ganar los nueve puntos que quedan porque nuestra idea es terminar el año en puestos de ascenso: Ojalá lo podamos lograr".

Parra, máximo goleador en el estadio "Libertadores de América" con 18 tantos desde su apertura en 2009, se alegró por la nueva conquista del lunes, lograda de taco luego de una habilitación de Matías Pisano.

"Era la única manera que tenía para conectar la pelota", comentó sobre su excelsa definición.

En cuanto al rendimiento del equipo, el jugador surgido de las divisiones inferiores de Chacarita señaló: "La realidad es que venimos en alza desde hace bastante, el equipo responde con ganas, estamos mucho mejor, más sueltos en todas las líneas... Ayuda mucho el apoyo de la gente".

Con respecto a la visita del sábado ante el líder Defensa y Justicia, que lo aventaja por cinco puntos, Parra aseguró: "Será un partido dificilísimo pero tenemos expectativas de ganarlo".

"Terminar primeros sería increíble por cómo se arrancó (solo dos puntos en las cuatro primeras jornadas)", consideró.

LA PRÁCTICA DEL MARTES

En otro orden, el plantel volvió a los entrenamientos en el predio Santo Domingo en la localidad bonaerense de Villa Domínico con una tarea regenerativa tras la victoria ante Douglas.

Los suplentes hicieron trabajos físicos y fútbol, mientras que el experimentado defensor paraguayo Claudio Morel Rodríguez trabajó entre ellos, aunque no tomó contacto con la pelota.

En tanto, el zaguero Cristian Tula, también lesionado, trabajó de manera diferenciada e hizo algunos ejercicios con balón, al tiempo que mediocampista Juan Manuel Trejo cumplió una tarea especial por un leve esguince en su rodilla izquierda.

Por último, en las próximas horas, se confirmará si Pisano sufrió una pequeña fractura en el dedo pulgar de la mano izquierda, que no le impedirá jugar ante Defensa, el sábado.

La Gata puede volver a jugar en Estudiantes, Verón está en duda

LA PLATA -- Gastón Fernández inició la semana más feliz del semestre, ya que el próximo sábado cumplirá la sanción de cuatro meses impuesta por el Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte (TAS) y desde el domingo estará nuevamente a disposición del entrenador de Estudiantes de La Plata, Mauricio Pellegrino.

La Gata jugó su último partido el 22 de junio pasado ante Belgrano de Córdoba en La Plata, por lo que hace cinco meses que no está en una cancha.

El delantero viene entrenando sin inconvenientes y siendo parte tanto de la parte física como de la futbolística, y si bien le falta ritmo es muy probable que forme parte de la lista de concentrados para el choque ante Colón de Santa Fe, el lunes venidero en La Plata por la 17ma. fecha del torneo Inicial.

Gastón Fernández no tuvo mucha participación en el ciclo Pellegrino, primero por decisiones futbolística y luego por la suspensión del TAS.

En esta etapa sólo estuvo 161 minutos en cancha (71 con Quilmes, 34 ante Argentinos Juniors, 45 con San Martín de San Juan y 11 frente a Belgrano de Córdoba).

En la actual etapa comenzó como titular el día del debut del técnico ante Quilmes y luego siempre ingresó minutos en tres partidos más. Su rendimiento no fue bueno y no logró afianzarse.

En el comienzo del año, con Diego Cagna como técnico y luego en el breve interinato de Martín Zuccarelli, tuvo mayor participación.

En ese lapso jugó cuatro encuentros como titular y en cinco fue al banco, cotejos en los que ingresó en dos. En ese período Fernández sumó 330 minutos en cancha.

En total, a los largo del 2013 y con estos cinco meses de inactividad, Fernández sumó sólo 491 minutos en cancha, que equivalen a cinco partidos y medio.

En cuanto a su último gol hay que remontarse a la última fecha del Clausura 2012 cuando anotó en el empate 2 a 2 frente a Unión en Santa Fe, día que marcaba el retiro de Juan Sebastián la Bruja Verón de las canchas.

Sin dudas es una semana distinta para la Gata, que vuelve a sentir la adrenalina de poder estar una vez más a disposición del equipo y del entrenador, días cargados de ilusión a la espera de la decisión de Pellegrino, quien probablemente lo incluya entre los concentrados para el choque ante Colón.

VERÓN EN DUDA

El plantel de Estudiantes volvió a los trabajos en la mañana del martes, tras la derrota ante Godoy Cruz en Mendoza, la tercera del torneo y el gran interrogante que se plantea despejar a lo largo de la semana es si el capitán Juan Sebastián Verón estará en condiciones de reaparecer frente a Colón, por ahora el lunes en el Estadio Ciudad de La Plata.

La Brujita realizó tareas de kinesiología y luego trotes alrededor de la cancha principal del Country Club de City Bell, pero su vuelta no está confirmada, ya que Verón aún siente molestias en el gemelo de la pierna izquierda y habrá que seguir su evolución día a día.

En la práctica no estuvo presente el entrenador Mauricio Pellegrino por problemas personales y estuvo comandada por Carlos Compagnucci y el resto del cuerpo técnico.

En cuanto al resto de los lesionados hay que decir que el uruguayo Matías Aguirregaray, quien se recupera de una operación de ligamentos, comenzó con tareas de campo supervisadas por el kinesiólogo Emiliano Rafetto, pero su vuelta recién se piensa para abril del año venidero.

Por su parte, Leonardo Jara y Franco Jara, quienes ya no estarán en el resto del torneo prosiguen con trabajos de kinesiología y le apuntan al inicio de la pretemporada.

Mientras que el partido con Godoy Cruz no dejó jugadores lesionados más allá de golpes propios de cada partido. Si bien la semana recién comienza, si no se produce el retorno de Verón el equipo que recibiría a Colón será el mismo de la última fecha.

En lo que hace al horario del partido, la dirigencia de Estudiantes pretende cambiarlo del lunes para el domingo, porque el tenista Juan Mónaco, fanático hincha del Pincha, comprometió a su amigo Rafael Nadal para que concurra a ver al equipo y el mayorquí regresará a su país el lunes, día para el cual figura la programación original para el cotejo frente a Colón.

Sigali, descartado en Godoy Cruz

MENDOZA -- El defensor de Godoy Cruz Leonardo Sigali quedó descartado por lesión para el partido del próximo viernes ante Vélez Sarsfield en Liniers, por la 17ma. fecha del torneo Inicial de Primera División.

El marcador central sufrió una distensión en el aductor de la pierna izquierda en la victoria ante Estudiantes (2-1), el sábado, y ante el escaso tiempo de recuperación, no será tenido en cuenta por el DT Martín Palermo.

En su lugar ingresaría el ex defensor de Boca Juniors y Douglas Haig de Pergamino David Achucarro, aunque también cuenta con chances Nicolás Sánchez.

El plantel mendocino realizó el martes su segunda práctica semanal en el estadio "Feliciano Gambarte", donde los jugadores trabajaron la parte física junto al profesor Gastón Mendoza. Luego, hubo tareas tácticas en defensa y de definición en ataque.

El miércoles será el turno del ensayo de fútbol formal, en el que Palermo definirá el equipo para jugar el viernes 20.20 en el "José Amalfitani".

Además de la variante obligada, el DT podría realizar otra modificación con el ingreso desde el arranque del delantero Facundo Castillón por el juvenil Juan Garro.

El probable equipo del Tomba ante Vélez es el siguiente: Jorge Carranza; José San Román, David Achucarro, Jorge Curbelo y Leandro Grimi; Fernando Zuqui, Federico Lértora y José Luis Fernández; Jonathan Ramis, Juan Garro o Facundo Castillón y Mauro Obolo.

Netherlands extended their unbeaten run to 17 games after a bad-tempered 0-0 draw with Colombia in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

In a game of few chances, the main talking point came 10 minutes before half-time when the hosts saw Jeremain Lens given a straight red card for an altercation with Colombia defender Pablo Armero.

The Dynamo Kiev forward was dismissed for raising his hands to Armero, who was fortunate not to see red himself for the stamp that brought about Lens´ reaction.

Louis van Gaal made four changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Japan on Saturday with Arjen Robben among those to be rested, while Colombia coach Jose Pekerman brought in three new faces from Thursday´s 2-0 win over Belgium.

The hosts started the brighter and went close to taking the lead in the seventh minute when Rafael van der Vaart struck the post with a dipping effort from 25 yards, with Siem de Jong stabbing the rebound wide from six yards with the goal gaping.

Nine minutes later, Netherlands were almost gifted the advantage, Lens stretching to reach a weak defensive header ahead of goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon, but his poked attempt went just wide of the post.

However, Lens´ evening then turned sour when he saw red following the confrontation with Armero.

After the pair challenged for a ball in the box, the defender appeared to stamp on Lens, who reacted by pushing Armero to the ground, earning a straight red card while the Colombian went unpunished.

Four minutes later, Santiago Arias was lucky to only receive a yellow card after leading with his forearm in an aerial duel with Daley Blind, and a minute before half-time Abel Aguilar was cautioned for a cynical scythe on Van der Vaart - a challenge that saw the Hamburg midfielder leave the field injured.

Colombia tested Jasper Cillessen for the first time a minute into the second period, the goalkeeper parrying Radamel Falcao´s effort from a tight angle.

Dutch substitute Leroy Fer´s goalbound volley was then blocked by the legs of Cristian Zapata in the 63rd minute as the home side looked to record their fourth home win on the spin.

The last chance of the game fell to the visitors, though, as Falcao crossed for James Rodriguez 12 minutes from time, but his header from 10 yards was well held by Cillessen as the first ever meeting between the sides ended goalless.

Brazil have continued their dominance of Chile with a 2-1 win over their South American rivals in Canada on Tuesday.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup hosts extended their unbeaten run against Chile to 12 matches, dating back to August 2000, thanks to Robinho´s 79th-minute winner.

Eduardo Vargas had cancelled out Hulk´s first-half opener with a tremendous strike at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

But Robinho´s header saw Brazil continue their fine form as they made it six matches without a loss.

Neymar, who was targeted by Honduras in Brazil´s 5-0 win on Saturday, fired the first shot at goal, putting his effort from an angle just outside the area well wide.

Chile made a slow start and were punished for an error on 14 minutes when Hulk opened the scoring.

Marcos Gonzalez´s sloppy pass out of defence went straight to Oscar and the Chelsea midfielder slipped Hulk through on the left side of the area.

Hulk unleashed a powerful left-footed strike into the bottom corner, with Claudio Bravo unable to keep it out.

Chile began to settle and put Brazil under pressure after going behind, but struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Vargas threatened for Chile just four minutes into the second half, curling a 20-yard shot wide.

Brazil went close on 51 minutes when a Maxwell cross from the left was cleared by Gonzalez as Paulinho lurked at the back post.

The Confederations Cup champions looked most dangerous on the counter-attack and threatened again five minutes later when Neymar fed through Robinho, whose shot was saved.

From the resultant corner, Hulk picked up the scraps at the edge of the area and hit the post with a powerful strike.

Chile surprisingly hit back through Vargas on 71 minutes.

Substitute Jean Beausejour headed a Bravo goal kick to Vargas, who took a touch before finishing into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Just two minutes later and Brazil thought they were back in front.

Neymar flicked in a cross, but the Barcelona attacker had come back from an offside position and the goal was ruled out.

But they only had to wait until the 79th minute to score what proved to be the winner thanks to Robinho.

Neymar concluded his dazzling run with a pass out right to Maicon, whose first-time cross picked out an unmarked Robinho to head in.

It could have been three through Neymar but he was unable to complete an excellent display with a goal as Bravo denied him.

A first-half hat-trick from Oribe Peralta helped Mexico beat New Zealand 4-2 and 9-3 on aggregate to cruise into the FIFA World Cup finals.

Miguel Herrera´s men were all but guaranteed to progress prior to the second leg in Wellington, having romped to a 5-1 victory on home soil last week.

Any hope of a miraculous New Zealand fightback was swiftly snuffed out by Peralta, who scored in the 14th, 29th and 33rd minutes to essentially confirm Mexico´s progression.

The hosts, who saw Jeremy Brockie have a penalty saved in the 39th minute, at least had the consolation of grabbing two late goals in reply - through Chris James and Rory Fallon - but Mexico had the final say through Carlos Alberto Pena´s 86th-minute strike.

Mexico, who countered with pace and precision throughout, will now play at the World Cup finals for the 15th time, but outgoing New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert can take heart from the spirit his side showed in the second half against a side 55 places above them in the world rankings.

In his final match as New Zealand coach, Herbert threw youngsters Storm Roux and Bill Tuiloma into the spotlight in front of over 37,000 fans at Westpac Stadium.

The duo displayed promise and Mexico were forced on to the back foot in the opening stages before Peralta found the net with a chipped finish to virtually condemn the game to exhibition status.

Yet New Zealand did their best to send Herbert out in style, powering forward after the break and eventually gaining reward when James - a scorer in the first leg - made no mistake with his side´s second penalty of the game in the 80th minute.

Ecuador and Honduras have played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a friendly in Houston on Tuesday.

Carlo Costly looked to have inspired Honduras to a surprise win when the substitute scored twice in five minutes at the BBVA Compass Stadium.

But Enner Valencia, another introduced off the bench, struck with a screamer to help Ecuador draw in a clash between two teams who have qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Jaime Ayovi had given Ecuador a first-half lead in a poor encounter before two red cards marred the end of the international friendly.

Juan Paredes and Wilson Palacios were both red-carded by referee Ricardo Salazar.

It took Ecuador a quarter of an hour to open the scoring as Jaime Ayovi got on the end of a set-piece.

Walter Ayovi´s in-swinging free-kick from the right led to his cousin, who plays for LDU Quito on loan from Tijuana, heading in.

Jaime Ayovi should have doubled his tally and his team´s advantage just minutes later.

He was set up inside the area but took too many touches and was closed down as the chance disappeared.

There were few chances throughout the first half but the best opportunities continued to fall to Jaime Ayovi.

Fidel Martinez was released down the left and he cut back for Jaime Ayovi, who failed to get enough contact on the pass just before half-time.

Ecuador continued to threaten in a game of few chances as Paredes went close to doubling their lead just before the hour-mark.

The right-back found room before striking for the bottom corner from 20 yards, but Noel Valladares got a strong hand to the shot to push it around the post.

Honduras found an equaliser on 63 minutes after a nice move involving Costly.

The Guizhou Zhicheng striker won a header which fell for Jerry Palacios, who delayed his pass until Costly was ready to receive, take a touch and place his finish into the bottom corner.

Costly, who was introduced in the 58th minute, suddenly put Honduras in front with his second goal in five minutes.

He was played in behind and cut inside onto his left foot, dummying his defender before curling a stunning strike into the top corner from just inside the area.

Paredes saw red on 76 minutes and Wilson Palacios soon after before Ecuador equalised with a screamer of their own.

A clearance fell for Valencia, who took control and rifled a 25-yard shot into the top corner to salvage a draw for his side.

Valencia almost pinched the victory for Ecuador just a moment later but his shot was tipped over by Valladares.

Guerra strikes again as T&T double up on Reggae Boyz

Trinidad and Tobago made it two in two over arch-rivals Jamaica when they walked away 2-0 winners in yesterday´s Caribbean affair at the Hasley Crawford Stadium.

With nothing much to report on from the first half, it took T&T 49 minutes to break the deadlock. Ataullah Guerra, who scored the winner for T&T in their last 1-0 encounter with the Reggae Boyz just 4-days ago has struck again, this time, four minutes into the second-half to send T&T one up at the restart.

The former San Juan Jabloteh man collected the ball on the left side, skipped a few Jamaican tackles and rifles a low shot into the bottom right corner of goalkeeper McCallum´s goal to give T&T the goal advantage.

T&T continued to dominate in the second half and it paid dividends in the 75th minute when Central FC striker Rundell Winchester made a strong run into the box and was fouled by Jamaican defender Alvas Powell which resulted in a penalty. Captain Kenwyne Jones took the honors as the Stoke City striker stepped up to convert from the spot and send T&T further into the lead.

The Reggae Boyz would hold on despite some repeated attacks by T&T as the game eventually ended 2-0 in favor of the home side.

T&T has now won the Caribbean Classico series with 1-0 and 2-0 results respectively and ended their 2012 campaign on a high note.

It was also a farewell match for Port Vale´s Christopher Birchall and also paid tribute to Carlos Edwards who has not officially retired but it seems as though head coach Stephen Hart is planning on rebuilding a team with younger troops.
