Rafael Esquivel accepts Farías´s resignation admitting he did everything possible
The president of the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), Rafael Esquivel, accepted the resignation of the head coach of the national team, Cesar Farias, who announced his "irrevocable" resignation on Saturday through social networks.
"Your decision to irrevocably resign starting November 30 has been accepted on the understanding that the best efforts on our part and yours were made to bring the team to the World Cup, which unfortunately was not reached," Esquivel wrote in a letter that on Monday he shared with the Venezuelan media.
Farias took over the team in 2008 following the resignation of Richard Paez. After five years, on Saturday he announced his resignation in a statement, after days of rumors about his possible departure.
In recent days, the national media has reported that Farias could take over club Tijuana in Mexico. On Monday Farias will give a press conference in which he is expected to confirm the rumors.
The coach took over the national team in the fifth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2010 WC and coached them through the qualifiers for Brazil-2014.
After the Venezuela´s draw against Paraguay in their last qualifying match for Brazil-2014 in October, the boos and resignation chants were heard in the Pueblo Nuevo stadium in San Cristobal (south), as an example of the controversy surrounding the young coach who, upon arrival as coach, promised to bring the South American country to their first ever WC.
Farias was also criticized for his playing philosophy, changes in tactical approaches and his frequent disagreements with the press. Many felt that he should resign.
However, Esquivel in the letter sent to the media on Monday "deeply" thanked the coach´s effort to "carry forward" the national team in their various challenges.
