http://www.youtube.com/w…oE2mdDrri7g

Atletico Nacional retained their Colombia Primera A title with a 2-0 win in the second leg against Deportivo Cali on Sunday.

It was all on the line at Atletico Nacional after the first leg finished 0-0 between the two sides in Cali.

After 17 minutes, Nestor Camacho deflected a harmless header from a corner into his own net to give Atletico the lead.

Atletico pushed hard for a second goal and were rewarded on 62 minutes as Cali were caught on the break.

A goal kick was flicked on and Jefferson Duque´s first touch took him around the goalkeeper to seal the championship.

It is Atletico´s 13th Colombian championship – taking them to within one of Millonarios´ 14 titles.

Uruguay Primera Division Wrap: Danubio crowned champions

Danubio clinched the Uruguay Primera Division title in thrilling fashion on Sunday after a 1-0 win over Sud America.

Pablo Lima´s 80th-minute strike was enough to seal first position after River Plate´s 1-1 draw at Defensor Sporting.

Lima´s winner gave Danubio their fourth title and first since 2007, as they pinched the Apertura after River´s draw and Nacional´s loss.

River Plate equalised in the 86th minute through Sebastian Taborda, but were unable to find a title-winning goal.

Nicolas Olivera had put Defensor ahead on 67 minutes.

Nacional appeared to be headed for the title, needing a win at home to Fenix and taking the lead before suffering a 2-1 loss.

Fenix defender Leandro Zazpe scored an own goal to give Nacional the lead after 17 minutes before they fought back with second-half goals to Ignacio Pallas and Hernan Novick.

Despite Fernando Machado receiving a second yellow on 86 minutes, Fenix held on to deny Nacional.

In the standout individual performance of the round, Sergio Blanco scored four goals as Wanderers smashed El Tanque Sisley 5-0 despite possession being shared.

Blanco grabbed his first goal on 38 minutes before his other three came in an 11-minute period in the second half.

In other results, Cerro required two late goals to see off Liverpool 2-1 while there was a goalless draw between Miramar Misiones and Juventud.

Rentistas drew 1-1 with Racing while Cerro Largo saw off 10-man Penarol 1-0.

Liga MX: America 1 Leon 3 (1-5 agg)

http://www.youtube.com/w…IutdZjb6nfE

Leon have claimed their first Liga MX title in 21 years after a 3-1 win over America at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday.

Gustavo Matosas´ men took a 2-0 lead into the away leg and only built on their advantage against an America side who were unable to get into the tie.

Mauro Boselli netted once more to give Leon the lead before Juan Ignacio Gonzalez´s own goal gave America, who finished the encounter with 10 men, hope just before the break.

But second-half goals from Gonzalez - this time at the right end - and Edwin Hernandez sealed Leon´s sixth title and first since 1991-92.

Luis Angel Mendoza almost gave America a dream start in the eighth minute.

The attacker used his quick feet to beat two defenders in the area before hitting the inside of the post, seeing his effort bounce clear.

Narciso Mina had failed to make the most of a glorious headed chance for America moments before Boselli´s 13th-minute opener.

The lethal Argentine was given a bit of space on the right side of the area and drilled his low shot into the bottom corner.

It was Boselli´s 18th goal of the season, adding to his strike in the first leg of the final.

America threatened time and time again, with Mina squandering several headed opportunities.

But they were finally given some hope of a remarkable comeback thanks to Gonzalez´s own goal three minutes before half-time.

Rubens Sambueza cut in from the right before curling a left-footed cross which Gonzalez headed past his own goalkeeper William Yarbrough.

But Gonzalez needed just six minutes into the second half to redeem himself for the error.

The defender headed in a corner on 51 minutes, all but giving America no chance of a record 12th Mexican league title.

If Miguel Herrera´s men had hope, it was dashed just four minutes after Leon regained the lead as Francisco Rodriguez was sent off.

With Matias Britos through on goal, the defender dragged down the Uruguayan, denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to be given his marching orders.

Leon were in party mode and made it 3-1 in the second leg thanks to Hernandez.

Luis Montes found space just outside the area and passed down the left for Hernandez, who took a touch before firing into the corner.

Herrera, who leaves America to take charge of Mexico, was sent off late on as Leon cruised to victory.

San Lorenzo won the Argentine league title on Sunday with a 0-0 draw at Velez Sarsfield as outgoing champions Newell´s Old Boys were held 2-2 in Rosario.

The Saints, coached by former Barcelona and Spain striker Juan Antonio Pizzi, topped the Inicial championship with 33 points from 19 matches, two more than Velez, Newell´s and Lanus.

It was San Lorenzo´s 12th league title in the professional era and first since the 2007 Clausura championship.

"We were one of the teams that most tried to play (good football) and among those that did it best," said forward Ignacio Piatti, San Lorenzo´s top scorer with eight goals.

"We deserved this, the Cup and all," he added referring to qualifying for next year´s Libertadores Cup, South America´s top club tournament.

"We won a very even tournament of a very high standard... leaving the two biggest clubs with the two top coaches by the wayside," said Pizzi, referring to Boca Juniors and River Plate.

San Lorenzo made hard work of getting over the line with two scoreless draws in their last two matches. A home win over Estudiantes two weeks ago would have settled the championship.

On Sunday, they were indebted to goalkeeper Sebastian Torrico for two brilliant saves that kept them in the match at Velez´s Fortin ground.

In an exciting clash at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium, Newell´s looked set to take the title race to a playoff against San Lorenzo on Wednesday before substitute Jorge Pereyra Diaz headed Lanus´s equalizer 15 minutes from time.

Newell´s, who won the Final championship under Gerardo Martino last season, failed to win any of their last eight matches and garnered only five points during the slump.

They managed to take the race down to the wire because of the inconsistency of their challengers.

All four goals came in an absorbing second half on Sunday, with good football from both Newell´s and Lanus, who won the regional Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday.

Midfielder Pablo Perez put the home side ahead in the 54th minute when he found a small gap between goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin and the post.

A minute later, Lanus centre back Paolo Goltz equalized with a header from a free kick, though video replays suggested he had strayed into an offside position.

Newell´s went ahead again with an own goal from defender Carlos Izquierdoz. Milton Casco´s angled shot looked off target but the ball hit Izquierdoz full in the chest and went in.

There was time for more drama and Pereyra Diaz headed home at the near post to make it 2-2, sparking celebrations by San Lorenzo fans in the capital as the news came through.

Leon reigns supreme in Liga MX final

Club Leon won a relatively easy final leg versus Club America, but the 3-1 triumph had key moments which will keep fans guessing about what might have been, as well as wondering what will happen in the future.

The game was actually there for Club America - chances to pull even abounded in the first half, and especially in the first ten minutes there were two clear opportunities.

The first was a shot by Luis Angel Mendoza in the eighth minute that got past Leon goalkeeper William Yarbrough, who was otherwise alternately a wall or Superman in the championship match. The shot by Mendoza didn´t end up in the back of the net, though, because it rang off the post instead.

In the tenth minute, Miguel Layun served up an excellent cross for Narciso Mina, who headed accurately, but weakly, towards goal.

With those first two golden chances wasted by Las Aguilas, the punishment came swiftly on a counterattack by Leon. Mauro Boselli, whose specialty is the one-two combo of first touch, then shot, that seems to always catch defenders out of position, nailed the side setting past a diving Moises Munoz in the twelfth minute.

Though the yellow-blue flags in the stadium kept waving, the air went out of giant Estadio Azteca. Fans know that the first goal of the game is a big psychological factor for the players on the field. A difficult task for Club America had turned absolutely dire once Leon scored.

Las Aguilas did not respond well. Rubens Sambueza got more pushy and dramatic. Thus, referee Roberto Garcia Orozco simply didn’t buy his theatrical fall in the 23rd minute after minor contact in the box. He showed Sambueza a yellow card for simulation instead of whistling a penalty. Aquivaldo Mosquera objected so strongly that he foolishly earned a yellow of his own.

In some ways, the worst reaction was by Club America coach Miguel Herrera, who seems to have forgotten that he now represents Mexico as coach of the national team, and is not just someone coaching his final game as coach of one club in Mexico. Herrera, always emotional, crossed the line into downright bratty behavior, throwing a mini-tantrum on the sideline with his complaints to the referee. It certainly didn’t help his team play better, and it only made him seem immature and incapable of appropriate, let alone classy, behavior.

While Yarbrough was certainly the hero of the match for Leon, there’s something to be said about how the best way for a goalkeeper to stay in fine form during a game is to receive a series of consecutive shots that are not too difficult. That is exactly what Mina served up time and again to Yarbrough, leaving frustrated America fans calling for Mina’s immediate removal.

Yet others could do no better. Yarbrough stopped attempts by Layun and Francisco ´Maza´ Rodriguez as well. Leon actually seemed to be their own worst enemy at times, such as when Rafael Marquez missed a chance to block a ball that skipped past his back, leaving Mina alone in the box with the ball in front of him. Fearlessly, Yarbrough charged out just in time to smother the ball that his defenders had let slip through.

Just before the end of the half, Yarbrough was again betrayed by his defense. Ignacio Gonzalez attempted an unwise clearance via a header of a Rubens Sambueza pass, but instead, he redirected the ball right into the goal. Yarbrough had no chance.

No doubt aware of the luck of their goal, Club America continued frantically to try to earn one on their own merit, but their hectic play left them vulnerable to counterattacks and to Leon’s own timewasting tactics, which clearly exasperated Las Aguilas.

Soon after Yarbrough was shown a yellow for taking too long to put the ball back in play, Gonzalez redeemed himself for his earlier own goal. On Leon’s first corner of the match, Gonzalez put away the goal in the 51st minute.

The match was all but over. Rodriguez was shown a red for a last-man tackle, leaving only the time to tick away for miserable Aquilas fans. Edwin Hernandez scored once more for Leon in the 72nd minute, adding even more finality to the result.

Despite Leon´s dominance in claiming a sixth league title, Herrera continued his rants against the referee in his post-game comments. He had the chance to congratulate and applaud the excellent play of the Leon players who helped him qualify Mexico to the 2014 World Cup, but instead he focused only on his gripes about how his Club America players were wronged. It doesn’t bode well for his composure on the international stage.

Referees are flawed, obviously, but Club America simply didn’t do enough to take the match out of their hands and win on their own merit. Leon are deserving champions. The players did exactly what was required to triumph.

San Lorenzo crowned champions after goalless draw as Newell’s and Lanus tie

A fascinating Torneo Inicial has come to an end and to the relief of San Lorenzo, their 0-0 draw in Liniers with Velez Sarsfield was enough to capture the title. The draw meant that a winner in Rosario between Newell’s Old Boys and Lanus would have forced a playoff but Lanus fought back twice to force a 2-2 draw and so hand the trophy to El Ciclon.

A dramatic last day of the Torneo Inicial saw the top 4 face each other in a winner takes all set up. Although the match in Liniers failed to ever really ignite, the drama created by goings-on in Rosario led to a tense and enthralling final round.

As leaders before the games, San Lorenzo were in pole position and perhaps the pressure of the stakes led to a pretty tight affair in their match with Velez. El Ciclon started well and thought they should have had a penalty in the first half after some fairly physical marking at a corner but genuine chances were few and far between.

Over in Rosario, Newells and Lanus was a more open affair but both games ended goalless at the break. It was after the interval that things got very exciting.

After 53 minutes, Pablo Perez forced Newell’s in front following a corner that was never quite dealt with and with that momentarily meant that Alfredo Berti’s boys joined San Lorenzo at the summit and would force a playoff.

However, minutes later we were back to square one as Lanus defender, Paolo Goltz headed them level. Both these sides knew that a win, in the event that San Lorenzo failed to do so, would mean they could be crowned champions and so in search of more goals the game opened up.

Newell’s led again with over 20 minutes remaining as Carlos Izquierdoz inadvertently headed past Agustin Marchesin in an effort to stop a shot but once again Lanus roared back. A cross from the right was headed into the top corner by Jorge Pereyra Díaz to tie it up once again.

As they fought it out to find a winner, Velez pushed San Lorenzo further and further back. Agustín Allione came closest when his shot struck the post with Sebastián Torrico beaten but the game remained goalless.

With minutes remaining, Allione again shot at goal only to see his effort this time spectacularly palmed away by Torrico. The save was the last meaningful action of the game and in the process ensured El Ciclon would lift their 15th title.

Despite pushing neither Newell’s or Lanus could find a winner and so when the final whistle blew in Rosario, celebrations erupted in Liniers and on the streets of Boedo.

San Lorenzo are worthy winners in a remarkably open Torneo Inicial even though their form in these last few weeks has almost let it slip. With no one else seemingly able to mount a significant challenge, Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side are deserved champions.
