Friendlies Preview: Costa Rica v South Korea

Costa Rica and South Korea will continue their World Cup preparations with a friendly match at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Friday.

After a big 4-0 loss to Chile on Wednesday, the Costa Ricans will be motivated to perform better after spending large periods of time conceding possession to their South American opponent.

It is the second poor result in a row for Costa Rica, with a unimpressive performance in a 1-0 loss to Australia in November.

The Costa Rican squad will again be missing their European based players including Bryan Ruiz and Bryan Oviedo with US-based striker Alvaro Saboria also absent.

This is the first match of three-match US tour for South Korea, with the Asian nation also taking on Mexico and the USA in an eight-day period.

The South Korean squad will also be without their European stars with Son Heung-Min, Ji Dong-Won and Kim Bo-Kyung not named in the squad.

In their last two matches, the South Koreans recorded a 2-1 triumph at home over Switzerland, while they went down 2-1 to Russia in Dubai.

This tour and a subsequent match against Greece on March 4 represent South Korea´s final warm-up matches before they travel to Brazil to take on Belgium, Russia and Algeria in Group H.

Costa Rica has a friendly at home against Paraguay, also on March 4, in their last match before meeting Italy, England and Uruguay in Group D at the World Cup.

Danmark mødte bl.a.

Valencia forward Dorlan Pabón could join Brazilian club in January according to agent

Colombian forward Dorlan Pabón could be moving to Brazil in the distant future after his agent spoke with Spain newspaper Superdeporte.

The 25-year-old Valencia striker has started 12 games for Los Che but only found the net three times, a disappointing return following his exploits at Real Betis last season.

He joined Betis on loan in February and scored eight times and created three goals during 17 games, this including scoring in the 3-3 derby draw against rivals Sevilla.

And Superdeporte now believes a move to Brazil is most likely, especially after Pabón’s agent Riccardo Calleri spoke with the publication.

“Upon the arrival of Pizzi, it is possible that Pabón will go to Brazil on loan,” Calleri said.

Juan Antonio Pizza is Valencia’s new manager and now that he has come in Pabón looks likely to leave.

Three teams from Brazil are interested in securing his services, with one of them São Paulo who openly are on the look out for a forward.

If Pabón was to move to Brazil and enjoy success it would significantly boost his chances of making Columbia World Cup squad.

He scored twice in qualification for the World Cup and will hope to be a part of the squad in June.

Brazilian newspaper reveals Shakhtar Donetsk bid for Manchester United target Everton Ribeiro last week

Last week Cruzeiro have received an offer for Everton Ribeiro and today it was revealed by Brazilian newspaper Lance that the offer came from Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Businessman Kia Joorabchian was involved in the deal, which would have been €10 million and given Cruzeiro a percentage of Marcelo Moreno economic rights.

Moreno spent last season on loan at Cruzeiro from Grêmio but Shakhtar still own 30% of his contract and the deal involving Ribeiro would see them own a significant amount of Moreno so they could keep him for 2014.

However this proposal was dismissed by Cruzeiro, who remain adamant of keeping Ribeiro at the club.

Reports in Brazil suggest that Joorbchian is using the Ukraine club to arouse awareness in England and force one of the Premier League clubs to bid for the 24-year-old.

Joorbchian has been involved in several deals involving Brazilians moving to the Premier League. David Luiz, Paulinho and Oscar among some of the deals.

However at the moment it seems the talented attacker could be staying at Cruzeiro, who own 60% of his economic rights, and that would be a huge boost for the club ahead of their Copa Libertadores campaign.

Delanteros: Juan Manuel Martínez, Emmanuel Gigliotti, Franco Fragapane
