Los titulares de River, bajo la lluvia

BUENOS AIRES -- Mientras una delegación compuesta con jugadores que habitualmente no son titulares viaja a Salta para afrontar un amistoso ante San Lorenzo, el resto del plantel trabajó en el Monumental, con el Superclásico del próximo sábado, como gran objetivo.

Aquellos que jugarán ante Boca el sábado realizaron ejercicios aeróbicos bajo la lluvia en el campo de juego del estadio, con todos sus integrantes entrenando con normalidad.

Cabe recordar que Fernando Cavenaghi, quien ingresará al once titular ante Boca, también estará jugando en la noche del martes ante San Lorenzo. La idea del cuerpo técnico es que el delantero sume minutos de fútbol para llegar con rodaje al Torneo Final.

Por otro lado, el grupo de jugadores que jugará ante San Lorenzo viaja a Salta en el mediodía del martes desde Aeroparque. Los once que pondrá en cancha Ramón Díaz serán: Leandro Chichizola; Germán Pezzella, Ramiro Funes Mori, Víctor Cabrera; Augusto Solari, Cristian Ledesma, Ariel Rojas, Osmar Ferreyra; Jonathan Fabbro; Fernando Cavenaghi, Daniel Villalva. Mientras tanto, en el banco de suplentes estarán: Nicolás Francese, Emanuel Mammana, Federico Vega, Emiliano Agüero, Nicolás Gómez, Julio Zuñiga, Lucas Pugh y Lucas Boyé.

River, que cierra su actividad preparatoria veraniega ante San Lorenzo y Boca, debutará en el Torneo Final 2014, el domingo 9 de febrero ante Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, en el estadio Monumental.

El Mundo claim Barcelona might have to pay €63 million in taxes because of Neymar’s transfer

Spanish newspaper El Mundo claim that the Spanish Ministry of Finance are looking into the Neymar deal and may force Barcelona to pay €63 million in taxes, this is according to reports by Lance.

El Mundo was the paper that leaked the initial documents, which highlighted the secrecy around Neymar’s transfer to the Catalan club last summer.

And now the Tax Agency may look into the amount paid into the company of the player´s parents as part of his salary. The company in question is N & N and that could force Barcelona into paying more money in taxes.

Taxes in Catalan are 56% and the newspaper suggests Barca tried to avoid paying that by insisting the €50 million paid to Neymar’s parents company wasn’t for the Brazilian, which also made sure Argentine maestro Lionel Messi was still the best paid player at the club.

It seems though that Barcelona have been trumpeted and could now be forced to pay a large amount to Spanish Ministry of Finance.

It seems the nightmare for Barcelona and recently departed president Sandro Rosell goes on.

Various reports link QPR keeper Júlio César with Grêmio move

Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Júlio César is close to moving to Brazilian club Grêmio according to English paper the Daily Mail.

Grêmio released 40-year-old Dida at the end of 2013 and are openly on the look out for a new goalkeeper.

César has been looking for a move away from London since QPR were relegated from the Premier League last season and because of his preference to depart, English keeper Robert Green has been first choice for the West London club this season.

The Brazilian number one has been told though that he needs to be playing regularly to ensure he remains number one for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team.

The Mail believe he may move to Brazil on a loan move and Lance asked Grêmio director of football Marcos Chitolina about speculation linking themselves with the QPR goalie.

He said: “We are doing nothing with Júlio César. We are not negotiating.

“We can not rule out bring a keeper in because we did the pre-season with the under-18 goalkeeper.

“It hurts no one though but it would be a special situation to bring a goalkeeper in.”

However Lance go on to confirm that sources close to the 34-year-old keeper insist talks are ongoing between QPR and Grêmio and Júlio César may find himself back in Brazil soon.

Santos forward Willian José joins Real Madrid Castilla on loan

Brazil forward Willian José has moved to Spain and joined Real Madrid Castilla on a loan until the end of the Spanish season.

The Santos forward has joined the Real Madrid reserve side in hope of impressing and earning a long-term contract with the European giants.

A statement from the club read: “Willian José da Silva, 22-year-old striker who played in the last Campeonato Brasileiro with Santos, has signed a contract which will see him join Real Madrid Castilla on loan until June of this year.

“The club reserve the option to buy.”

The statement was quoted by Sky Sports news who linked the transfer with another that occurred in January 2013.

21-year-old Brazilian Casemiro joined Real on loan from São Paulo and he went onto be a success, signing a permanent deal with the Spanish side last summer for a reported fee of €6 million.

He has gone on to appear for the senior side several times this season and is familiar with Willian José after the pair represented Brazil in the 2011 South American Youth Championships.

Willian José will now be given a huge opportunity to earn himself a move to Real and curiously this will be his fifth professional team of his career, despite being just 22-years-old.

Boca: Guillermo Fernández se lesionó un pie

BUENOS AIRES -- El mediocampista Guillermo Pol Fernández se lesionó el pie derecho y estiró a cinco la lista de futbolistas de Boca Juniors que sufrieron problemas físicos en lo que va del año, en la noticia saliente que arrojó la práctica matutina del equipo dirigido por Carlos Bianchi.

En ese contexto, mientras el plantel xeneize entrenaba en el gimnasio del club en medio de una mañana lluviosa y con miras al tercer Superclásico del año del sábado próximo ante River, en Mendoza, el juvenil Fernández se retiró para someterse a estudios en una clínica de la Capital Federal.

El temor de Fernández, quien regresó este año luego de seis meses a préstamo en Rosario Central, es haberse fisurado el quinto metatarsiano del pie derecho, aunque eso recién se sabrá una vez que le hayan efectuado los estudios.

En el caso de confirmarse la lesión de Fernández, Boca estiraría a cinco su lista en lo que va del año, ya que anteriormente sufrieron problemas físicos Claudio Chiqui Pérez, Claudio Riaño, Agustín Orión y Joel Acosta, quien se llevó la peor parte ya que se rompió los ligamentos cruzados y estará inactivo seis meses.

Respecto a la actividad del plantel que se prepara para jugar en Mendoza, entrenó liviano con la intención de profundizar por la tarde, pero Bianchi decidió suspender la sesión por la lluvia y volverán a entrenar el miércoles desde las 17.30.

En ese sentido, Boca iba a entrenar en la Reserva Ecológica pero por el clima lo hizo en Casa Amarilla y la sesión consistió únicamente en ejercicios fí­sicos, con más exigencia para los que no estuvieron el sábado en la derrota por 2-0 en Córdoba ante River.

The MLS/Liga MX rivalry – are transfers increasing the hostility?


On the 22nd December last year, it was revealed that Mexican side Cruz Azul would sign two of MLS’ key players: Michael Farfan (Philadelphia Union) and Rafael Baca (San Jose Earthquakes). This was alongside one of the league and USA’s brightest young prospects – Jose Villarreal (LA Galaxy) – joining on loan with Cruz Azul having the option to sign the striker permanently. If Villarreal impresses, it would seemingly make the full transfer inevitable.

It was the kind of statement that was only going to raise the tension between the two great football rivals. Michael Farfan, the 2012 MLS All-Star who could play both at fullback and on the wing, played a considerably important role at Philadelphia, with four goals and nine assists in 82 appearances. His final year in Pennsylvania could only best be described as ‘frustrating’. Rafael Baca, a tenacious box-to-box centre midfielder, scored two with nine assists in 79 regular season appearances and was one of the key players in the 2012 Supporter’s Shield winning team.

The biggest loss to both LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer though, perhaps the player Cruz Azul really wanted most out of the three, was Jose Villarreal. Aged just 20, Villarreal already has the 2012 MLS Cup in his repertoire alongside being one of USA Under-20s’ most consistent and productive performers. Eight goals in 11 appearances is testament to this. The youngster burst onto the scene with a thunderbolt/game-tying strike away to Vancouver Whitecaps in June 2012 and is not afraid of exhibit a level of flair, perhaps with one moment encapsulating this perfectly – an incredible overhead kick goal against Toronto FC. A technically-gifted, resilient poacher and a beneficiary of the MLS Academy system, Villarreal was predicted to be the future poster boy for MLS. A scenario that is unlikely to happen now.

There looked to be three key motives for the MLS products to choose to depart from a league where first team opportunities are, arguably, much easier to come by. 1) For Rafael Baca and Villarreal in particular, moving to Liga MX enables the two to be closer to their home and birthplace. For Farfan though, the move may be a fresh start. As noted earlier, Farfan had endured a frustrating 2013 season. The mercurial talent was probably looking for a chance to play in a team whereby he feels he is provided greater creative freedom, perhaps back in a center midfield role where he thrived in 2012.

The second move is obvious. The money. Although official salary statistics have not been released, it is highly likely that Farfan and Baca will see vast improvements in payment. Baca was only being paid $49,000 a year while Farfan received $98,670. In Liga MX the average salary is believed to be around $500,000 a year. Economically, the deal would be hard for any MLS player (who is not a designated player) to turn down. Farfan and Baca would be more likely to receive roughly $200,000 a year, but the contrast is still huge.

The third is exposure. MLS still struggles to gain a foothold with regards to national television agreements in its own country, it is arguably easier to tune into a Liga MX game in USA than it is MLS. For the likes of Villarreal, who will consistently want exposure to break into the USMNT, this may have been the final selling point to sway him to move south of the border.

MLS can offer for some players what they believe to be an improved lifestyle and the opportunity to travel to new, exciting destinations every single week. The league is restrocted itself through it’s allegiance to the salary cap. This making it extremely difficult for the league to keep hold of their best players who may see their future in Europe. Yes, there has been the recent implementation of the Retention Fund, enabling clubs to spend extra on keeping hold of their key players – but is it really enough?

Young Americans Paul Arriola, Joe Corona, Danny Cuevas, Greg Garza, Alonso Hernandez are all examples of players who decided that moving to Mexico was most beneficial for them to progress as a players with a perceived improved playing standard and more emphasis placed on technicality over physicality. The slightly older generation – USA Internationals DeMarcus Beasley and Herculez Gomez also made the move and have been difficult to persuade to return to their home country.

MLS’ 2013 Golden Boot Winner Camilo, after a protracted ‘will he,won’t he’ style transfer saga, transferred to Queretaro in a ‘multi-million dollar deal’. A prime example of what MLS does not want to happen – its best players going to a league that MLS compete with on a continental level.

And that is the time the two fierce rivals come together – the CONCACAF Champions League. Three out of the four quarter finals see a battle between USA v Mexico. San Jose Earthquakes v Toluca, LA Galaxy v Xolos Tijuana (Joe Corona, Greg Garza and Herculez Gomez’s club) and perhaps the most pertinent of them all: MLS Cup holders Sporting Kansas City v Cruz Azul. In all three situations it is normally expected the Mexican side will play a second-string team. However, after Tigres’ shock departure at the same stage in the 2012/2013 competition, whereby a heavily weakened XI crashed out to Seattle Sounders, Mexican clubs will surely have grown wearier of the American competition since.

If Major League Soccer wants to make a counter-statement, then two of the three quarter finals have to be wins. An American club lifting the CONCACAF Champions League trophy on April 24th is the best way to show that MLS are not a selling league or a feeder to Liga MX, but that they can truly compete with the world’s best at the FIFA Club World Cup at the end of the year. Not many Mexican players cross the border to ply their trade Stateside, but that could change with results. Not just the money.

Manuel Lanzini: "Es el camino para revertir la situación"

BUENOS AIRES -- El enganche de River Plate Manuel Lanzini indicó el martes que el triunfo y la actuación del pasado sábado ante Boca Juniors en Córdoba "es el camino para revertir la situación" del semestre anterior en el próximo Torneo Final 2014.

"Merecíamos un partido así después de un semestre más ó menos. Por eso, tenemos que trabajar de esta forma porque es el camino para revertir la situacion y conseguir cosas que es lo que todos queremos", planteó Lanzini, una de las figuras del reciente Superclásico en Córdoba y autor del primer gol en el 2-0.

El `10` riverplatense brindó una conferencia de prensa esta mañana en el estadio Monumental junto a Juan Carlos Menseguez y ambos coincidieron en que el equipo debe repetir la imagen del juego en el estadio Mario Alberto Kempes para olvidar el 17mo. puesto del pasado Torneo Inicial 2013.

"Tenemos un grupo bárbaro con muchos jugadores buenos. Si nos proponemos, las cosas van a salir bien", se esperanzó Lanzini, quien seguramente volverá a estar desde el arranque en el último Superclásico de verano que se jugará el próximo sábado en Mendoza.

"Mi cabeza está en River, se rumorea mucho pero nada concreto. Soy jugador de River y pienso solo acá", manifestó el enganche, que en el último mercado de pases rechazó una oferta millonaria del fútbol de Emiratos Arabes.

Por su parte, el Rayo Menseguez, quien marcó el segundo gol el pasado sábado, expresó su alegría por volver a jugar desde el inicio y por haber redondeado una pretemporada sin incovenientes físicos tras una larga inactividad por una serie de lesiones.

"Ni en el campeonato pasado eramos los peores ni tampoco ahora somos los mejores. Somos concientes que el semestre no fue bueno pero el grupo respondió. Ojalá podamos continuar por este camino, que es el ideal", remarcó el ex San Lorenzo.

El delantero, de 29 años y con pasos por el fútbol alemán (Wolfsburgo) e inglés (West Bromwich), sabe que arrancará por detrás de Fernando Cavenaghi y el colombiano Teófilo Gutiérrez pero remarcó que peleará por una chance.

"Hay buena competencia en la delantera, cuando tenga la oportunidad tengo que aprovecharla. El que decide es Ramón (Díaz)", subrayó el atacante que, a la vez, confesó que no le da importancia a los señalamientos por su amistad con Emiliano Díaz, hijo y principal ayudante del DT millonario.

De cara al último Superclásico en Mendoza, la última prueba antes del debut en el Final ante Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Lanzini negó que, tras el empate en Mar del Plata (1-1) y la victoria en Córdoba (2-0), la presión ahora estará del lado de Boca.

"Estos partidos los tomamos siempre de la misma forma, son clásicos. No nos tenemos que relajar, la presión no estará de ningún lado y nosotros tenemos que sostener lo que hicimos", argumentó.

En cuanto a la actividad, el grupo que no viajó a Salta para enfrentar a San Lorenzo se entrenó en el estadio Monumental. Los trabajos comenzaron en el gimnasio y luego los jugadores se trasladaron al campo de juego donde realizaron ejercicios aeróbicos.

Hvad angår Pizzi, er det godt at se ham holde hovedet højt.

Det er en meget sund tilgang, at man som træner perfektionistisk ikke vil overlade noget til tilfældighederne og i stedet lade det være resultatet af initiativ.

Som Pizzigol nævner, skal han lige tilvænnes Europa, hvor der spilles dét mere taktisk, så i langt færre tilfælde betaler det sig rent faktisk at tage så meget initiativ - men han skal holde fast i den filosofi så længe spilmaterialet passer bedst dertil.

Med en sejrsrate på 25% er han træneren med 4. dårligst pointhøst i klubbens historie, omend det jo nok bliver bedre med tiden og han uanset hvad aldrig kommer til at "overhale" elendige Koeman.
- I den henseende er det måske lidt bekymrende, at Pizzi tilsyneladende har været under vingerne hos Tintíns landsmand van Gaal. Spøg til side, han er vel grundlæggeren af Barcelonas initiativ-spil.

Elche skal ihvertfald til at lave mål, hvis målsætningen er overlevelse - tror Valdez vil være en fin signing - han kommer med rutine, professionalisme og hårdt arbejde og så har han jo snartvæen turen rundt, Hercules, Valencia og nu Elche - en moderne Florencio Amarilla ;-) - der fakrisk en del paraguayanere som har spillet for Elche, Ramon Hicks, Cayetano Ré (tidligere landsholdstræner) tegner godt.

mht Pizzi, ha han skal lige vænne sig til det spanske igen. Det er en lift anden situation i La Liga med 2 store favoritter i Barca og Real og et stærkt Atletico-hold. I La Primera, var toppen langt mere hævnbyrdig, hverken Boca, River, Racing eller Independiente har været dominerende de sidste par sæsoner, Newell´s, Velez, Arsenal og Lanus har været de mest stabile hvilket siger det hele...meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem Pizzi skal nok få styr op det , Vargas er en god signing.

Racing trabajó bajo la lluvia, los colombianos diferenciados

BUENOS AIRES -- El plantel de Racing Club se entrenó el martes bajo la intensa lluvia, comandado por el entrenador Reinaldo Mostaza Merlo, con el objetivo de continuar con la preparación para el debut oficial ante Colón de Santa Fe, correspondiente a la primera jornada del Torneo Final 2014.

Los futbolistas del conjunto albiceleste se movieron durante casi dos horas, divididos en dos grupos, en la cancha auxiliar, a pesar del diluvio que cayó en la localidad de Avellaneda y alrededores.

Uno de los grupos realizó tareas físicas de coordinación y de velocidad, y fútbol táctico, mientras que el otro hizo también trabajos de coordinación y de velocidad y fútbol reducido.

Asimismo, previo a la segunda práctica de la semana, los profesionales realizaron pruebas de mediciones de estabilidad y de flexibilidad funcionales.

Por otro lado, el colombiano Wason Rentería, por ahora el único refuerzo del equipo académico, y su compatriota Roger Martínez fueron los únicos jugadores que hicieron trabajos diferenciados y realizaron pasadas alrededor del campo de juego.

El plantel de Racing Club volverá a los entrenamientos el miércoles, desde las 9.30, en el estadio `Juan Domingo Perón`, a puertas abiertas para la prensa, mientras que por la tarde hará un doble turno sin acceso a los medios.
