Rescaldani pasó de Vélez al Málaga

MÁLAGA -- El delantero argentino Ezequiel Rescaldani es nuevo jugador del Málaga hasta el final de la presente temporada, tras el acuerdo alcanzado este jueves con su club de origen, Vélez Sarsfield, según anunció la entidad española.

Una vez finalizada la temporada, el Málaga tendrá la posibilidad de ampliar el contrato con el jugador argentino con un contrato entre tres y cuatro campañas más.

"Mis expectativas están muy altas, será una experiencia linda. Tengo mucha ilusión y estoy muy contento", expresó el jugador en rueda de prensa, tras retirar su pasaporte comunitario en Italia.

Rescaldani será compañero de los argentinos Wilfredo Caballero, arquero, Marcos Angeleri, defensor, y de Pablo Pérez y Fernando Fissore, mediocampistas.

Rescaldani, tiene 21 años, ocupa la posición de delantero centro, mide 1,92 metros y militó principalmente en Vélez Sarsfield, equipo con el que debutó en la Primera División argentina con tan solo 18 años y con el que se proclamó campeón del Torneo Clausura en 2011 y del Apertura en 2012, además de jugar 58 encuentros oficiales, destacando seis participaciones de la Copa Libertadores.

Bauza armaría un mix ante Danubio

BUENOS AIRES -- San Lorenzo regresó este jueves al mediodía de Salta tras la victoria por 3 a 1 ante River y, por la tarde, se entrenó en la Ciudad Deportiva. El técnico Edgardo Bauza planea darle rodaje a varios futbolistas que habitualmente no son titulares para el encuentro del sábado ante Danubio de Uruguay, en el marco de los festejos por la obtención del Torneo Inicial 2013.

Los que jugaron ante el conjunto de Ramón Díaz realizaron ejercicios regenerativos, en tanto que el resto hizo una práctica de fútbol informal. Por el momento, el plantel no registra lesionados ya que Walter Kannemann, quien no viajó al norte argentino por precaución, se recuperó de una molestia muscular.

Si bien Bauza le otorgará minutos a varios jugadores ante el conjunto uruguayo, se estima que el equipo de arranque tendrá un mix entre titulares y suplentes. Entre ellos, existe la firme chance de que haga su presentación el zaguero colombiano Carlos Valdés, quien también permaneció en Buenos Aires esta semana para ponerse a punto físicamente de cara al arranque del campeonato.

Una probable alineación frente a Danubio sería: Sebastián Torrico; Gonzalo Prósperi, Valdés, Mauro Cetto, Kanneman; Juan Mercier, Enzo Kalinski; Leandro Romagnoli, Angel Correa, Ignacio Piatti; Nicolás Blandi. De todas formas, el viernes habrá práctica de fútbol formal y se definirá el equipo.

Se viene un año con triple competencia para el último campeón del fútbol argentino, con la Copa Libertadores como objetivo central. San Lorenzo debutará en el torneo continental el 11 de febrero y enfrentará al ganador de la serie de repechaje entre Deportivo Quito y Botafogo, cuyo primer encuentro finalizó 1 a 0 para los ecuatorianos.

Sports flash: Iquique wins Copa Chile semifinal, Libertadores begins

U de Chile kicks off in South America’s premier international club cup Thursday, while Iquique has one foot in the Copa Chile final after beating San Felipe.

An exciting week of cup soccer will culminate with Universidad de Chile commencing its 2014 campaign in the elite Copa Libertadores against Paraguayan outfit Guaraní on Thursday night, meanwhile Iquique defeated Unión San Felipe 2-0 away from home Wednesday in the Copa Chile semifinal first leg.

San Felipe must now travel north on Feb. 6, score two unanswered goals and win on penalties or force an unlikely three goal margin in order to progress in the competition. The eventual victor will play in the final against either Huachipato or Universidad Católica — the former boasting advantage in its tie after a 1-0 first leg home win Tuesday.

The scoreline Wednesday was harsh on San Felipe. The team controlled possession for large periods of the first half, and after the first goal — a superb free kick from midfielder César Pinares on 18 minutes — the hosts rallied and forced the best out of keeper Rodrigo Naranjo on several occasions.

The visitors rarely seemed panicked, however, and late in the second half striker Gerson Martínez put the flourish on a team goal to kill the game off against fatigued opposition.

Iquique coach Jaime Vera praised his players for bouncing back after a five goal humbling in the league at the hands of Colo Colo, and pointed out that the tie was now the team’s to lose.

“Fortunately we take the work from this game forward with us — a two goal lead makes us optimistic about the future,” Vera said to press after the match.

Iquique hosts San Felipe on Feb. 6 at 10 p.m., while Huachipato travels to Santiago to face Universidad Católica on Feb. 5 at 8:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.

Copa Libertadores commences

Three Chilean teams will compete in this year’s Copa Libertadores — the continent’s most prized international club title.

O’Higgins

The team from Rancagua won its first ever major trophy last year, defeating Universidad Católica in a tense grand final to secure a spot in the Copa Libertadores for the first time in 23 years. Eight-time Colombian champion Deportivo Cali and six-time Libertadores semifinalists Cerro Porteño of Paraguay and Venezuela’s Caracas or 2013 Copa Sudamericana winner Lanús lie in wait in Group 3. O’Higgins plays away to one of the latter two on Feb. 13.

Universidad de Chile

Having secured a shot at a Libertadores berth after dominating Iquique over two legs in the end of season play-offs last year, “La U” competes in a cutthroat two game head-to-head with Gauraní for a Group 5 spot. Runners up in Paraguay’s 2013 Apertura, Gauraní go into the tie unbeaten in ten games, though the side hasn’t played since the end of its Clausura season in mid-December.

The first leg kicks of in Santiago at 8 p.m. Thursday night, while the return fixture will be played in Asunción on Feb. 6. The overall winner will compete in a group featuring Brazil’s Cruzeiro EC, Montevideo-based Defensor Sporting and Peruvian-side Real Garcilaso.

Unión Española

“Los Rojos” booked a spot in Group 2 courtesy of a photo-finish win in last year’s Primera División Transition Tournament. Española has its work cut out for it in a tough group featuring Argentina top-division champion San Lorenzo, Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle and either Botafogo of Brazil or Ecuadorian heavyweights Deportivo Quito. Española heads to Independiente on Feb. 18 to begin its campaign.
