Selvom det er KayOkay, der er ekspert på dette område, så vil jeg alligevel godt godkende hende. Shakira kan også til nøds gå.

Det blev som forventet, minus Blás pérez - men ganske ganske giftigt hold de stiller mod Portugal.

U.S.-Mexico Preview, Part 1: The A Team

By JOHN GODFREY

One year ago this week, in his first game as United States national team coach, Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad eked out a 1-1 draw against Mexico at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. On that night the team started poorly but seemed to draw strength from its optimistic, charismatic leader. Trailing at the half, it clawed back and got a result. All things considered, it was a good showing for both coach and team.

Next Wednesday the U.S. will face Mexico again, also in a friendly, but this time in Mexico City’s smog-ridden, high-altitude cauldron of Estadio Azteca. Mexico Coach Jose Manuel de la Torre has already announced that El Tri stars such as Javier Hernández, Giovanni Dos Santos and Andrés Guardardo will be in his squad. Clearly, Mexico will not be pulling any punches. The question: Who will Klinsmann call in for the Americans?

Klinsmann has three options:

¶ Even though many European leagues are about to start their seasons, the coach could call in his A squad and go toe to toe with El Tri. It is a FIFA-sanctioned international friendly date, after all.

¶ Klinsmann could build good will with European club managers and choose his B team — the best North American-based players from Major League Soccer and the Mexican Primera División. This would eliminate many long flights and allow Europe-based players to start their club seasons with a bit more skip in their steps.

¶ Or he could opt for a hybrid solution, selecting a mix of players from around the globe, factoring in individual players’ situations on a one-by-one basis.

According to a U.S. Soccer spokesman, Klinsmann will announce his roster on Sunday. Between now and then, the Goal blog will look at the three possibilities and explore which players might get the call depending on Klinsmann’s approach.

The U.S. A team might look like this:

Goalkeepers

Tim Howard is a given. He may not be the same cat-like, shot-stopping superhero he was four or five years ago, but nobody is pushing him for playing time just yet. If Klinsmann takes his best team, Howard will be its last line of defense.

Brad Guzan and Nick Rimando currently fill the next two spots on the U.S. goalkeeping depth chart, but who is No. 2 and who is No. 3? It probably will not matter, because if Howard makes the 5,394-mile flight from Liverpool to Mexico City, he will play 90 minutes. Rimando is reliable and has an uncanny knack for stopping penalties. But Guzan has size, skill, more national team experience, and is five years younger than the Real Salt Lake keeper. Guzan gets the nod.

Defenders

The U.S. backline is the weak link at the moment: It lacks depth, injuries are an ongoing concern, it relies too heavily on older players and Klinsmann seems to be struggling to identify the right personnel. Is Omar Gonzalez ready to join the ranks? Does Timothy Chandler want to rejoin the ranks? Is Eric Lichaj a rising star, as many believe? Is Edgar Castillo an offensive option or a defensive liability — or both?

The starting four appear to be set: Steve Cherundolo, Clarence Goodson, Carlos Bocanegra and Fabian Johnson may not strike fear into opponents’ hearts, but they are a steady quartet and should be on the squad. Of the other four defenders who played in the recent “five-game tournament” in May and June, only Geoff Cameron showed that he belongs. It got so bad, in fact, that Klinsmann started midfielder Jose Torres at left back in a World Cup qualifier rather than adjusting the line to start Michael Parkhurst or Oguchi Onyewu (Castillo was injured).

Gonzalez is back playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, but he is still on the mend and a long shot for a call up (although Klinsmann could bring him in simply to train with the team in advance of the September World Cup qualifiers). Tim Ream can play in the middle or out left, and he could earn a spot. The speedy/steely Lichaj appears to be next in line at fullback. Would Klinsmann give Chandler another chance so soon after he snubbed the U.S.? Unlikely. One name that might warrant consideration: Jay DeMerit. The Vancouver Whitecaps captain is thriving in M.L.S. and could slot into the backup central defender role that Onyewu once held.

Midfielders

If the defense seems shaky, the midfield makes up for it. Five players — Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan, Maurice Edu, Jermaine Jones and Jose Torres — provide serious strength in the middle of the team. Stuart Holden will likely join this group, but his long recovery from a serious knee injury will continue until at least October. Danny Williams is another midfield stalwart, but he has not played a competitive match since April because of a shoulder injury, so he probably misses the cut.

Instead, look for Kyle Beckerman and Joe Corona to round out the midfield. The former can provide cover at the back and the latter could prove to be a worthy late-game substitute if the U.S. falls behind Mexico and needs an offensive boost.

Forwards

For the first time in memory striker seems like a position of strength for the Yanks. Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore are coming off career-defining seasons in Europe: Herculez Gomez continues to be a terror for Santos Laguna of the Mexican Primera División; Chris Wondolowski is dominating M.L.S. and will run through a wall for Klinsmann; and Terrence Boyd appears to be the Next Big Thing. Klinsmann’s next job? Finding a killer combo among this group that will take the team to, and deep into, the 2014 World Cup.

The A Team roster:

Goalkeepers Brad Guzan, Tim Howard

Defenders Carlos Bocanegra, Geoff Cameron, Steve Cherundolo, Clarence Goodson, Fabian Johnson, Eric Lichaj, Tim Ream

Midfielders Kyle Beckerman, Michael Bradley, Joe Corona, Landon Donovan, Maurice Edu, Jermaine Jones, Jose Torres

Forwards Jozy Altidore, Terrence Boyd, Clint Dempsey, Herculez Gomez, Chris Wondolowski.

Herediano to be without Nunez for CCL

HEREDIA, Costa Rica - Herediano will have to make the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals without Victor Nunez.

The 32-year-old Dominican born striker, who has scored 32 goals over the past two years for Herediano, has been diagnosed with torn ligaments in his right knee and will miss the next six months, the club said.

Nunez, who has played in seven games in the Champions League with both Herediano and Liberia but not scored, had complained of pain in his knee since the start of the season, club spokesman Roberto Carpio said Tuesday.

He played the club´s league opening games against Alajuelense and Santos, but not since.

Nunez did not play last week against Real Salt Lake in Herediano´s 1-0 win at home in the Champions League nor in Saturday´s 2-0 league victory over Perez Zeledon.

Lucas Moura admits he could leave São Paulo for PSG

São Paulo starlet Lucas Moura has admitted that he could join Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old has been the name on everyone’s lips this summer, with the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan and most recently PSG battling to lure him away from his current club.

However, United and Inter have recently pulled out of the race for his signature as they have no intention of paying São Paulo’s €40million-plus asking price for Lucas.

Lucas told Globo Esporte: "Talks with PSG are well under way, but not done yet. I spoke to Thiago Silva and Leonardo [PSG sporting director], they said many good things about the club and the project they are implementing there.

"I will stay at São Paulo until the end of the year. I have always said that I want to win a title and qualify for the Copa Libertadores before leaving.

"If the transfer happens in January, I´ll be able to do that for São Paulo. For now, I´m focused on the national team, though. I can only say something after the Olympics."

São Paulo vice-president, João Paulo de Jesus Lopes, recently said: "It is a financial issue. Paris Saint-Germain are a big club in European football, and if the player´s interests and also the club´s are met, I do not see why it could not happen.

"A transfer is an option, but it is up to the player to decide. São Paulo’s policy is to listen to the player´s desire. If Lucas wants to leave the club, we will not hamper a move. However, he will only leave for the right price."

Lucas is expected to make a decision about his future after returning from the London Olympic Games, where he could represent the Seleção as they go for gold against Mexico in the final of the tournament.

PSG currently have a maximum of four non-EU players in their squad, but they are hopeful that Milan Bisevac will receive dual nationality shortly, allowing the Ligue 1 giants to add Lucas, who is from outside the European Union, to their squad either this summer or in January.
