Diego Osella: "Colón tiene la posibilidad de cambiar la historia"

BUENOS AIRES -- El entrenador de Colón, Diego Osella, aseguró que el equipo santafesino tiene "la posibilidad de cambiar la historia" que lo da en muchos ámbitos como prácticamente condenado al descenso.

"Tenemos la posibilidad de cambiar la historia y para eso vinimos. Yo no reniego de este mal momento del club, porque siento que esta es una linda oportunidad en mi carrera para insertarme en primera división", remarcó Osella.

"Lo que pasa es que yo no tenía la oportunidad de elegir el momento para llegar a un club de la A, pero eso sí, estoy preparado para esto, lo mismo que todo mi cuerpo técnico", enfatizó.

Osella llegó al `sabalero` proveniente de la B Nacional, donde dirigía a Patronato, de Entre Ríos, pero acredita experiencia previa "en el Torneo Argentino B, en la segunda de Chile y como ayudante de campo de Roberto Sensini acá, en Colón".

"Como futbolista fui un jugador clase `C` del ascenso y ahora como técnico tengo que revalidar todos los días ante la gente de Colón por qué me eligieron", reconoció.

"Tenemos un plantel corto con muchos juveniles a los que conozco de mi anterior paso por la institución, pero como el calendario es muy apretado debemos trabajar de manera especial para jugar cada cuatro días. Después se verá si acertamos con la manera de hacerlo o no", destacó.

Homónimo del otrora reconocido basquetbolista de Atenas, de Córdoba y el seleccionado argentino, a este Diego Osella no le preocupa solamente "embocarla" en este primer paso por la primera división del fútbol argentino, sino "que Colón mejore y vuelva a ser el que fue".

"Por suerte la nueva comisión directiva solucionó el tema de las deudas con el plantel, que ahora está al día, y eso permite que los jugadores se compenetren solamente en trabajar y puedan ofrecer su mejor versión futbolística dentro de la cancha", afirmó.

"A nosotros y a All Boys no nos permitieron incorporar jugadores por esa deuda que mencionaba. Ojalá esa medida sirva de ejemplo a futuro para todas las instituciones del fútbol argentino, pero también sería bueno que las sanciones se apliquen de manera equitativa a todos los que incumplen con los pagos", advirtió.

Osella diagnosticó que la "sucesión de derrotas hace que los jugadores se inhiban y cuando se encuentran en ventaja en el marcador les parezca algo irreal en vez de natural".

"Como nosotros tenemos muchos jóvenes en el equipo y carecemos de la experiencia que necesitaríamos para pelear la permanencia, entonces debemos trabajar mucho con la cabeza del jugador, para quitarle la ansiedad y ponerlo en situación", describió.

"Por fortuna el hincha de Colón es muy noble y apoya al equipo bajo cualquier circunstancia. Acá hubo muchos técnicos consagrados que no quisieron venir a dirigir al equipo bajo las actuales circunstancias. Para nosotros, en cambio, esta es una linda oportunidad", apreció finalmente el nuevo técnico colonista.

Racing, listo para enfrentar a San Lorenzo

BUENOS AIRES -- El plantel de Racing realizó el viernes por la mañana su última práctica de cara al clásico del sábado ante San Lorenzo, a las 21.30 en el Nuevo Gasómetro, por la segunda fecha del Torneo Final. Para este encuentro, el técnico Reinaldo Merlo tiene el equipo definido y también determinó la lista de concentrados.

El entrenamiento matutino en la cancha auxiliar del Cilindro de Avellaneda consistió principalmente en trabajos con pelota, para luego finalizar con un ejercicio de fútbol en espacios reducidos. Si bien Mostaza no lo confirmó, el equipo sería el mismo que venció 3 a 0 a Colón en la jornada inicial.

Por lo tanto, los once serían: Sebastián Saja; José Luis Gómez, Fernando Ortíz, Esteban Saveljich, Matías Cahais; Diego Villar, Gastón Campi, Bruno Zuculini, Rodrigo De Paul; Gabriel Hauche y Valentín Viola. A su vez, el entrenador definió al resto de los convocados, entre los que figura por primera vez Francisco Cerro.

Por su parte, el colombiano Wason Rentería, quien el jueves fue diagnosticado con la rotura del ligamento cruzado anterior de su rodilla izquierda, desarrolló trabajos de kinesiología. Según lo expresado por el médico del club, Javier Swiatlo, en declaraciones a ESPN Radio Rivadavia, el volante estará entre 6 y 7 meses fuera de actividad.

Ante esto, Merlo ya le habría expresado a la dirigencia su intención de contar con un reemplazante y que su idea sería traer un defensor. Racing tiene un lapso de diez días para definir esta cuestión, según lo que marca el reglamento de la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino.

En los últimos dos enfrentamientos, Racing y San Lorenzo vencieron por tres goles de diferencia y ambos en carácter de visitante. En el Torneo Final 2013, La Academia se impuso 4 a 1 en el Bajo Flores, mientras que en el pasado campeonato el Ciclón venció 3 a 0 en Avellaneda.

Juan Román Riquelme: "Me quedan 15 días por delante"

BUENOS AIRES -- El enganche xeneize Juan Román Riquelme declaró el viernes que le "quedan quince días por delante" para recuperarse del desprendimiento del aductor izquierdo.

"Yo quiero volver a jugar, pero se me desgarró el aductor. Es algo fuerte y por lo tanto hay que esperar por mi recuperación", agregó el mediocampista ofensivo sobre la lesión que le impidió debutar todavía en el actual campeonato Final 2014.

EL SALVADOR

FAS (12 points) will look for its fifth straight win to open the Clausura season, when it visits Aguila (3 points) on Saturday. The Tigres boast the league’s best defensive record, conceding only two goals.

Also, on Saturday, unbeaten Isidro Metapan (10 points) hosts Atletico Marte, the team with the most combined regular-season points for the 2013-14 campaign.

Saturday should be the debut of legendary striker Carlos Ruiz with Municipal (8 points), which plays away to Marquense (9 points).

Also, on Saturday, champion Comunicaciones hosts Heredia in a rematch of the 2013 Apertura final, which the Cremas captured on penalty kicks after the two-legged final ended 3-3 on aggregate.

COSTA RICA

The Verano remains very competitive after seven rounds as the top five teams are within four points of each other. Alajuelense (15 points) now sits in first after an impressive 3-1 win over Belen Siglo XXI on Thursday. Two goals from the in-form Jose Guillermo Ortiz provided the margin of victory. The CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinalist will visit Cartagines (11 points) on Sunday.

Second-place Herediano (14 points) will look to keep pace with a visit to Perez Zeledon (5 points).

HONDURAS

At the top of the table, Real Sociedad (16 points) and Olimpia (15 points) will aim to separate themselves even further from the field this weekend.

With 17 goals (six more than any other team) in seven games, Real Sociedad is the league’s highest-scoring team. Rony Martinez heads the scoring chart with eight tallies and will look for more, when the Realeza hosts Marathon (6 points) on Sunday.

Olimpia, the only unbeaten team in the league at 4-3-0, will meet visiting Victoria (9 points), also on Sunday.

Universidad de Chile 1-0 Defensor Sporting

A superb strike from Gustavo Lorenzetti gave “La U” a valuable three points in its first Copa Libertadores group game Thursday, although a flare in the stands marred the victory and the club faces punishment from South America’s soccer governing body (Conmebol).

An oft-used football cliché is that the best teams can grind out wins even when not on their best form. Universidad de Chile certainly demonstrated such a quality with this result, never really clicking into gear against the well-organised Uruguayan outfit but still sending the away side home empty-handed.

A first half played out with a desperately slow tempo saw Defensor Sporting happy to sit back, let “La U” have plenty of possession and try to catch the home side on the break. This worked well for the Uruguayan team as it managed to contain the Santiago side’s wayward passing with ease.

At the other end of the pitch, the visitors gained several free kicks in dangerous positions and veteran midfielder Nicolás Olivera looked threatening throughout, but the Uruguayans failed to breach Johnny Herrera’s goal.

“La U” rallied in the second half, injecting a much-needed sense of urgency, purpose and intensity into their play. Creative forces Lorenzetti and Ramón Fernández grew in stature as the game wore on, probing the opposition’s defence, but the final ball consistently lacked conviction.

The breakthrough came from a corner in the 82nd minute, Lorenzetti beating his man to the ball on the edge of the box and smashing an unstoppable half-volley into the side netting, securing all three points for his team and sending the home fans into raptures.

“It was a really tough match, nobody gives anything away in this tournament and they have some important, experienced players,” Lorenzetti said after the game.

Unfortunately, the excitement after the goal spilled over in the south end of the stadium as some local fans lit a flare, flouting the ban on pyrotechnics in a moment of jubilation certain to incur punishment from the continent’s football governing body, Conmebol. This is a repeated offence — the most recent infringement occurred during the Libertadores qualifying match against Guaraní, for which the club was fined US $10,000 and threatened with further action if the problem arose again.

“La U” must now wait and see what sanction Conmebol’s deems appropriate. Following on the heels of this warning, the club now risks being punished with the closure of certain sections of the stadium or may even face the proposition of playing in front of an empty Estadio Nacional.

However, for now the team can celebrate its win and look forward to facing Brazilian champions Cruzeiro Feb. 25, who will be looking to bounce back from its shock 2-1 defeat against Peruvian side Real Garcilaso.

Lanús 0-0 O’Higgins

O’Higgins marked its long-awaited return to the Copa Libertadores with a solid display against reigning Copa Sudamericana champions Lanús, earning a valuable point away from home.

The Chilean champions perhaps over-embraced its status as underdogs, starting the match tentatively and dangerously allowing the home team to dominate the opening exchanges.

Lanús kept O’Higgins goalkeeper Paulo Garcés busy in the first 20 minutes, with a Víctor Ayala free kick and a header from fellow midfielder Diego Gonzáles, forcing good saves from the Chilean.

After surviving these early tests, O’Higgins began to assert itself on the pitch and was unlucky not to get on the scare sheet, with striker Pablo Hernández seeing his shot turned away for a corner by goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín.

Momentum alternated between the sides during an entertaining second half that, due to a combination of poor finishing and stubborn goalkeeping, failed to produce a goal. Garcés showed his quality throughout, in particular doing brilliantly to block forward Ismael Blanco’s strike from close range. For the visitors, star striker Pablo Calandria, midfielder Braulio Leal and substitute Gastón Lezcano were all guilty of spurning good chances.

“Nobody expected us to win tonight and we will take a lot of confidence from the match,” O’Higgins manager Eduardo Berizzo said after the 0-0 draw. “If our finishing had been more clinical, we would have won.”

O’Higgins’ campaign will continue Feb. 19 when it hosts group leaders Deportivo Cali of Colombia.

Maradona appeals to EU over tax bill

Diego Maradona is appealing to the European Union to step in as arbitrator in his ongoing feud with the Italian authorities.

Italy´s tax department accuse the Argentine legend of owing €39 million in unpaid taxes, a charge Maradona insists is completely unfounded.

The authorities claim the mammoth tax bill was built up during Maradona´s memorable stint with Napoli between 1984 and 1991.

During that period, Maradona guided Napoli to their only two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and the UEFA Cup.

"It´s important that people know the truth. I really don´t have to hide anything," Maradona told reporters on Friday.

"I don´t even have €40m to give to the taxman because it´s really difficult to earn more than that in a lifetime to be honest, let alone after tax."

Friday: Godoy Cruz claim big win over Quilmes

Last weekend’s limp performance against Argentinos Juniors was a real cause for concern for Godoy Cruz as they showed no signs that they would fight off the threat of relegation. Last night in Mendoza, it was a very different Godoy Cruz as they outplayed Quilmes to a comfortable 2-0 win.

From the outset, Godoy Cruz played with far more purpose than their relegation rivals and so it was no surprise when Gonzalo Castellani blasted them in front after 25 minutes. A cross from the left eluded everyone allowing Castellani the time and space to control the ball and thump it past Sebastián Peratta.

Five minutes later, the lead was doubled when Claudio Aquino burst through the centre of the Quilmes defence and kept his composure to put breathing space between the two sides.

In truth, the contest ended there despite only 30 minutes on the clock. Quilmes never looked like getting back into the game and a disastrous second half affirmed that.

In an attempt to shake things up at the break, Quilmes manager, Blas Giunta made all three of his substitutions and within moments of the restart, defender, Damián Leyes pulled up with an injury and was forced off.

Playing with 10 and two goals down, Quilmes could ill-afford any further rushes of blood to the head but just a few minutes later, Jonathan Zacaria lunged into a challenge and was promptly shown a second yellow card.

With more than half an hour remaining and now with 9 men the game was over. Godoy Cruz slowed down to walking pace and although they could have increased their lead they eased to victory.

The win shows some signs of life for Godoy Cruz but it is a worrying start to the campaign for Quilmes. A defeat at home to Rosario Central and now this drags them into the thick of the relegation battle.
