Liga MX Wrap: Fabian scores stunning winner for Cruz Azul

Marco Fabian executed a brilliant chip to hand Cruz Azul their sixth consecutive win with a 1-0 triumph over Puebla.

In the third minute of second-half stoppage time on Sunday, Cruz Azul punted the ball forward and Fabian expertly brought it down on the edge of the area, before twisting one way, then the other, and chipping Puebla goalkeeper Jorge Villalpando.

Fabian´s third goal in two games ensured Cruz Azul remain top of Liga MX´s standings with 19 points after seven rounds.

Cruz Azul remain undefeated with a draw in the first round the only blemish on their season, while Toluca (16 points) are second following a 3-0 win away to Veracruz.

Toluca started quickly with Edgar Benitez scoring in the sixth minute before Isaac Brizuela doubled the lead four minutes into the second half.

Pablo Velazquez wrapped up Toluca´s win in the 86th minute.

America (12 points) are third despite a 1-0 loss to Morelia, while Guadalajara sit fourth due to goal difference after a 2-1 win over Queretaro.

Bottom club Tigres UANL claimed their third draw in a row with a scoreless stalemate at Chiapas but remain last in Liga MX, one point behind Veracruz.

Santos Laguna held off Tijuana to triumph 3-2 and Leon defeated Monterrey 2-0, while Atlante trumped Pachuca 1-0 and Pumas UNAM and Atlas played out a 1-1 draw.

Costa Rica Primera Division Wrap: Limon win fourth straight

Limon won their fourth consecutive game to move into the Costa Rica Primera Division finals positions, overcoming Belen Siglo XXI 3-0.

Mayron George struck twice in the space of 11 second-half minutes on Sunday, as Limon continued their winning streak, moving to within three points of the top of the Primera Division table.

The top four teams in Costa Rica qualify for the finals and Limon moved into fourth at the expense of Cartagines, who had their match against Alajuelense suspended.

Steven Calderon gave Limon the lead at the Estadio Juan Goban in the 18th minute, before George struck in the 57th and 67th minutes.

Limon (14 points) sit fourth, one behind both Alajuelense and Deportivo Saprissa, while Herediano top the table on 17 points.

Herediano defeated Perez Zeledon 3-1, while Saprissa thrashed Santos de Guapiles 4-0.

UCR (13 points) moved within a point of Limon with a comfortable 4-1 over Puntarenas, while Cartagines (11) slipped to sixth and Carmelita (10) sit seventh after a 2-1 win over Uruguay.

Venezuela Primera Division Wrap: Zamora, Tachira keep winning

Deportivo Tachira thrashed Atletico Venezuela 4-1 to remain undefeated in the Venezuela Primera Division this season.

Yoandri Orozco notched a brace for Tachira as they recovered from going behind in just the second minute to win by three goals on Sunday.

The win took Tachira to 14 points in the Venezuelan league table, second behind Zamora, who crushed Atletico El Vigia 4-0.

In San Cristobal on Sunday, Atletico Venezuela stunned the home crowd with a second-minute goal from Luciano Ursino but, after the initial shock, Tachira recovered and eventually equalised 25 minutes later through Wilker Angel.

Orozco put the hosts in front seven minutes into the second half, while Jose Miguel Reyes made it 3-1 just after the hour-mark.

With 10 minutes remaining, Orozco struck his second goal, wrapping up a big win for Tachira, who have not lost in six matches in the Clausura season.

Tachira have a game in hand on Zamora, who stayed out in front overall thanks to a comfortable victory over the bottom club on Saturday.

Juan Falcon, Luis Vargas and Juan Murillo all scored in the first half for Zamora, while Jonathan Espana completed the rout of El Vigia in the 89th minute.

Tucanes sit third in the standings on 13 points after a 2-0 win at Yaracuyanos, while Mineros de Guayana are fourth on goal difference following their 1-0 triumph over Trujillanos.

In other results, Deportivo Petare and Deportivo Lara drew 0-0, Deportivo Anzoategui prevailed 3-2 away to Zulia, Carabobo defeated Deportivo La Guaira 2-0 and Caracas edged out Aragua 3-2.

Colombia Primera A Wrap: Santa Fe held

Santa Fe dropped points for the first time this season with Deportivo Cali holding the Colombia Primera A leaders to a scoreless draw.

Reigning champions Atletico Nacional moved within a point of Wilson Gutierrez´s Santa Fe with a 2-0 win over Deportes Tolima on Sunday, taking advantage of the Colombian league leaders´ draw on Saturday.

Santa Fe kept their fourth clean sheet of the Apertura campaign but were unable to break down Cali´s defence with the visitors claiming just their second point of the season.

The result left Santa Fe on 13 points from five matches with a plus seven goal difference, while Nacional (12 points, plus nine) and Boyaca Chico (12, plus four) sit second and third respectively.

The reigning champions beat Tolima thanks to goals from Diego Peralta and Fernando Uribe, while the losers finished the match with 10 players after Felipe Noguera was shown a red card just after the hour-mark.

Boyaca Chico defeated Envigado 2-0 thanks to a first-half brace from Armando Carrillo.

A free-kick from Dixon Arroyo´s ensured LDU Loja stayed top of the Ecuador Primera A after a 1-0 win over Deportivo Quito.

After a scoreless first half, Arroyo produced the decisive moment of the match at Loja´s Estadio Federativo Reina del Cisne in the 71st minute, curling a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner.

The Strongest could have claimed a three-point lead in the LFPB but a two-goal burst from Oriente at the start of the second half saw the La Paz visitors go home empty handed.

Oriente opened the scoring in the 48th minute with a nice move that culminated with Juan Quero cutting inside from the left wing and his squared pass was deflected into the net by an opposition defender.

The hosts doubled their lead four minutes later with Ronald Raldes controlling a corner on his thigh and then volleying the ball into the roof of the net.

The win took Oriente to seven points from five games at sixth in the standings.

Sport Boys, Universitario and The Strongest are all level on 10 points but the latter sit third due to their inferior goal difference.

The Strongest have also played one more game than the other two sides at the top of the table.

Real Potosi are fourth on nine points, while Guabira (seven) sit fifth, ahead of four other clubs due to their goal difference of plus two.

Chile Primera Division Wrap: Rubio strikes late for Universidad de Chile

Universidad de Chile returned to winning ways in the Chile Primera Division with a 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday.

A powerful header from Patricio Rubio with four minutes remaining clinched victory for Universidad after Carlos Retamales´ stunning equaliser had given Everton hope of a draw in the 77th minute.

At the Estadio Santa Laura, Universidad took the lead in the 36th minute when Rodrigo Rojas found Gustavo Lorenzetti on the left-hand side of the box and the 28-year-old winger dinked a cross over Everton goalkeeper Gustavo Dalsasso for Isaac Diaz to chest the ball home.

Retamales sent Everton level when he chested Moises Vasquez´s deflected cross down and sent a rasping half-volley into the bottom corner of the net with 13 minutes left but the visitors could not hold on.

In the 86th minute, the home side got the ball into the box and Rubio muscled his way in front of his marker to send a strong header inside the near post.

With Colo Colo having maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 triumph against Rangers on Friday, Universidad Catolica kept the pressure on the league leaders with a 7-1 thumping of Huachipato on Saturday.

Alvaro Ramos struck a brace for Catolica as they registered their third win in four games, while Milovan Mirosevic, Mark Gonzalez, Enzo Andia, Jonathan Bottinelli and Ramiro Costa also got on the scoresheet for the victors.

Colo Colo lead the Primera Division on 19 points with Catolica (16 points) in second, while Apertura champions O´Higgins (15) are third after seven rounds of the Clausura season.

O´Higgins trumped Nublense 2-0 on Sunday with Fernando Gutierrez and Pablo Hernandez scoring either side of half-time, while Palestino sit fourth, one point further back, following a 3-2 win at Union La Calera.

In other results, Audax Italiano defeated Antofagasta 1-0, Cobreloa drew 1-1 with Union Espanola, Deportes Iquique won 3-1 over Santiago Wanderers and Universidad Concepcion drew 1-1 with Cobresal.
