San Lorenzo skal bare vinde de to sidste kampe i gruppen. Så er de videre. Men ja, helt sikkert ikke den bedste start i Copa Libertadores for El Ciclon. Jeg tror stadigvæk på det. Kvaliteten på San Lorenzos hold er helt sikkert til stede.

Jeg har fulgt lidt med i gruppe 6 i Copa Libertadores. En ren dynamit-gruppe med Gremio, Atletico Nacional fra Colombia, Newells Old Boys og Nacional fra Uruguay. Sidstnævntes chancer for at gå videre er helt væk, efter de kun har fået et enkelt point i de fire første kampe. Men ellers ser det tæt ud. Newells imod Atletico Nacional i den sidste kamp, bliver en intens kamp, der højst sandsynligt afgør hvem der går videre.

Det bliver ihvertfald ikke nemt for hverken Newell´s eller San Lorenzo - Newell´s har den fordel de møder colombianerne på hjemmebane, San Lorenzo har det dårligste slutprogram sammenlignet med Union Española og Independiente - det er svært at hente point på udebane i Copa´en og 3 point i Ecuadors højder virker urealistisk pt - taget deres præstationer på udebane i betragtning og det faktum hjemmeholdet vil have noget at spille for også.

San Lorenzo kan sagtens få seks point i de to sidste kampe. Det mener jeg helt seriøst. Nu skal du heller ikke gøre Del Valle bedre end de er:-) Og San Lorenzo på hjemmebane imod Botafogo ligner altså en argentinsk sejr.

Tja Independiente er da ubesejret på hjemmebane , San Lorenzo har intet vist på udebane, Fogo kan sagtens tage point i B.A mod San Lorenzo - brasiliansk klubfodbold er trods alt et niveau over argentinsk.

Copa Libertadores: vital win for Española, first loss for O’Higgins

Undefeated Española grabbed its first win and a lifeline in the Copa Libertadores group stages while Cerro Porteño proved too much for O’Higgins in Paraguay.

The Copa Libertadores 2014 group phase is finely poised for Chilean teams Unión Española and O’Higgins following a crucial victory for the Santiago side and a narrow first loss of the campaign for the latter Thursday night.

Qualification for the knockout stages of South America’s premier international club competition is well within reach for the teams, however both face tricky away fixtures to their respective groups leaders in their final two games.

Unión Española 1-0 San Lorenzo

“Los Rojos” finally found their feet with their first win in the Copa Libertadores, running out comfortable 1-0 winners over San Lorenzo after three consecutive draws in the competition and taking a giant step closer to qualification for the knockout stages.

The game’s tempo in the opening half an hour suggested another draw was on the cards for the hosts as they watched their Argentine counterparts enjoy plenty of toothless possession without creating anything of note themselves.

The tie begged for a flash of brilliance, for someone to make something out of nothing — a moment that came in the 37th minute through Sebastián Jaime.

Once again, the Española forward provided the spark that ignited his side, skipping past his man and forcing defender Fabricio Fontanini into an awkward header that his goalkeeper did well to divert onto his own crossbar.

Suddenly, “Los Rojos” looked a different side — confidence oozed from playmaker Cristián Chávez, the team’s outstanding performer, as he brilliantly orchestrated his side’s attacks with a combination of poise and power.

When he wasn’t creating chances for his teammates — picking out defender Nicolás Berardo to unleash a fierce volley that Sebastián Torrico tipped over the bar — he was testing Torrico himself, fizzing a shot from 25 yards on the stroke of half time that the goalkeeper again did well to acrobatically force over the woodwork.

José Luis Sierra’s men had undoubtedly been the better side in the first half — although they had failed to find a breakthrough in the opening period, their task was greatly aided when defender Mauro Cetto was shown a red card for a two-footed challenge soon after the break.

With their numerical advantage the hosts sensed a golden opportunity to boost their position in the group and end their streak of draws, pressing on against tiring opponents and feeding target man Gustavo Canales with mechanical regularity.

Persistence paid off in the 67th minute when Chávez delivered another exquisite pass, floating a cross in for the Chilean striker to head back across goal and past a scrambling Torrico.

Last year’s Transition Tournament champion almost made the scoreline more flattering with 10 minutes remaining when Jaime adjusted well and struck the inside of the post but, in the end, the search for a two-goal cushion proved unnecessary — indeed, the nerves that traditionally accompany a one-goal lead were nowhere to be seen.

With two games remaining, Unión Española sits 2nd in Group 2 with 6 points — qualification is undoubtedly within reach but first the Santiago side faces a daunting away trip April 2 to the group leader, Brazilian side Botafogo.

Cerro Porteño 2-1 O’Higgins

O’Higgins suffered its first defeat in the Copa Libertadores group stage, failing to fight back from a two goal deficit incurred early on Thursday evening at Estadio General Pablo Rojas in Asunción.

A frantic opening ten minutes saw the home side race to a two goal lead before striker Pablo Calandria pulled one back from the penalty spot after a handball in the box. O’Higgins came close to tying the match in the final minute, though a goal line clearance sent Cerro top of Group 3 on seven points.

The club from Rancagua now sits in third on five points, one point behind Deportivo Cali and a point above Lanús, who defeated the Colombian team 2-0 Thursday in Argentina.

Manager Eduardo Berizzo lamented the mistakes that led to both goals — poor efforts to clear the ball preceded the scrambled opener in the second minute from Spain international Daniel Güiza and a needless foul by fullback Pablo Vargas gifted Cerro a penalty on eight minutes that was duly converted by tournament top scorer Julio Dos Santos.

“This game teaches us that mistakes cost you,” Berizzo said to press following the match. “A draw would have not been unfair … We’ve still got options though, there are two games left with which to qualify [for the knockout stages].”

The coach also confirmed that Alejandro López and Fernando Gutiérrez had not featured as a disciplinary measure, following reports that the two players turned up drunk to a training session last week.

Up next for the Apertura champion is a tough fixture away to Deportivo Cali on March 26 and finally a home clash April 8 with Copa Sudamericana holder Lanús, who O’Higgins drew 0-0 with on the road.

San Lorenzo har på papiret det mest talentfulde hold i gruppen. Det kan der ikke være tvivl om. Men det kan godt være at Delle Valle eller Espanola overraskende går videre.

Tror nu nok de fleste er enige om at Fogo har både den bedste og talentfulde trup i gruppen, men nice try.

Lige så vel som Union Española naturligvis på var udset til kunne at snuppe andenpladsen, hvilket de netop også have vist jvf præstationerne i de 2 kampe mod San Lorenzo. Hvilket heller ikke er spor overraskende deres præstationer i 2012 versionen i mente :-)

Bauza anunció que "descansarán muchos" en S.Lorenzo ante Gimnasia

SANTIAGO -- El director técnico de San Lorenzo, Edgardo Patón Bauza, adelantó el viernes que para visitar el domingo próximo a Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata "descansarán muchos" de los titulares en la derrota del miércoles ante Unión Española de Chile, por la Copa Libertadores.

El entrenador sólo confirmó al defensor Fabricio Fontanini en la defensa, Ignacio Piatti en el mediocampo y "uno de los dos puntas (Nicolás Blandi o Mauro Matos)" para jugar el compromiso de la novena fecha del torneo Final.

Además, reconoció que el zaguero Mauro Cetto también podría mantenerse en la formación, aunque esperará a "ver cómo llega" el mismo domingo tras regresar en Chile de un esguince de tobillo.

Cetto, expulsado ante Unión Española, no podrá jugar el jueves próximo el compromiso en la altura ante Independiente del Valle de Ecuador, que San Lorenzo debe indefectiblemente ganar para seguir con chances de clasificar a los octavos de final de la Copa Libertadores sin depender de otros resultados.

Un posible equipo para jugar en La Plata, el domingo a las 17 a puertas cerradas, es el siguiente: Sebastián Torrico; Gonzalo Prósperi, Fontanini, Cetto y Walter Kannemann; Leandro Romagnoli, Enzo Kalinski, Leandro Navarro y Piatti; Angel Correa y Blandi o Matos.

San Lorenzo, que suma cuatro juegos sin triunfos entre copa y campeonato, es escolta con 14 unidades, a uno de los punteros Colón de Santa Fe y Estudiantes de La Plata.

En la Libertadores, a falta de dos fechas para el término del grupo 2, el equipo de Bauza ocupa el último puesto con cuatro unidades (-2), detrás de Botofogo de Brasil (7), Unión Española (6) e Independiente del Valle (4 -1).

Perazzo: "No merecimos sufrir tanto"

BAHÍA BLANCA -- El director técnico de Olimpo de Bahía Blanca, Walter Perazzo, indicó este viernes que su equipo no mereció "sufrir tanto" para ganarle por 2-1 a Atlético de Rafaela, en el arranque de la 9na. fecha del torneo Final.

"No merecimos sufrir tanto. El triunfo fue un premio a no bajar los brazos", sostuvo el técnico `aurinegro`, una vez finalizado el cotejo en el estadio Roberto Carminatti.

Olimpo le ganó al conjunto rafaelino y no sólo mejoró su cuenta en el promedio (1,321) sino que meritoriamente se colocó con 14 puntos, entre los primeros en la tabla de posiciones.

"Miro las dos tablas, no lo puedo evitar", dijo Perazzo, quien resaltó que "con diez puntos más creo que nos salvamos".

El conjunto aurinegro reúne hasta el momento 37 unidades en 28 presentaciones durante la temporada.

"Estoy feliz porque el equipo se muestra consolidado. Igual todavía falta para que festejemos", expresó el DT del elenco bahiense.

Osella: "Dimos otro paso importante para no descender"

SANTA FE -- El entrenador de Colón de Santa Fe, Diego Osella, aseguró tras el triunfo por 1 a 0 como local ante Tigre que lo coloca como único líder del Torneo Final 2014 que el equipo "dio otro paso importante para cumplir el objetivo, que es que Colón se quede en Primera".

"Hoy dimos otro paso importante para cumplir el objetivo, que es que Colón se quede en Primera" señaló el DT del conjunto santafesino que arribó con el equipo en zona de descenso, salió de esa situación y ahora lidera la tabla de posiciones del certamen.

En cuanto al desarrollo del juego, el entrenador afirmó: "Nos faltó la tranquilidad para cerrar el partido. El nuestro es un equipo que juega con muchas necesidades".

"Termina siendo un partido emotivo por los 5 minutos de adición. Nos sirve mucho seguir sumando con rivales directos" añadió el DT ya que el `Sabalero` logró diez puntos sobre doce ante adversarios directos.

"De a poco vamos encontrando variantes, sin ser brillantes, pero que nos dan un buen volumen de juego" concluyó el ex entrenador de Patronato de Paraná.
