Report: Botafogo propose loan deal to bring CSKA Moscow forward Vitinho back to Brazil

Botafogo have been rebuffed in their attempts to bring forward Vitinho back to the club from CSKA Moscow, according to reports.

The 20 year-old´s struggled to settle in Russia and has made just eight appearances for CSKA since joining in September 2013.

Botofogo had hoped they could tempt CSKA into releasing the youngster on a season long loan, but their proposal has reportedly been turned down.

Vitinho is still believed to be seen as an important asset for manager Leonid Slutsky and will seemingly remain with CSKA for the foreseeable future.

Emerson Sheik linked with move away from Corinthians

Corinthians striker Emerson Sheik is close to leaving the club according to reports on Brazilan news vessel Lancenet.

The 35 year-old, who has played international football for Qatar as well as Brazil at under-20 level, joined Corinthians in 2011 and has won the Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup in his time at the Sao Paulo club. However, he has grown impatient and has been linked with moves to Gremio and Atletico Mineiro among others after overcoming a thigh problem.

Wages are believed to be a stumbling block in any deal for Emerson, who is thought to be on anything up to R$ 500,000 per month at Corinthians.

Three World Cup stadiums remain unfinished as FIFA visit Brazil

FIFA is starting a new round of inspections at World Cup stadiums in Brazil. With kick-off less than three months away, host cities are in a race against time to be ready for the tournament.

Operational inspections in six stadiums began Thursday and FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke is expected in Rio de Janeiro next week for a series of meetings to discuss preparations.

Technical teams from football´s governing body and the local organising committee visited the Itaquerão Stadium in São Paulo on Thursday and will move on to Porto Alegre, Manaus, Natal, Cuiabá and Curitiba in the coming days.

"This inspection tour will be fundamental to consolidate operational plans and for each area to confirm the operations they have planned over the last few years," said Tiago Pães, the operations manager for stadiums at the local organizing committee.

FIFA already knows that at least two stadiums won´t be ready until about a month before the tournament starts. The Itaquerão Stadium in São Paulo will be completed in mid-May, along with the Arena da Baixada in the southern city of Curitiba.

Cuiabá also doesn´t have its stadium ready, with concern over whether there will be enough time to install the temporary structures needed for technical teams, sponsors and media.

"This is the last occasion for the organizers to take stock of the operational preparations before the respective FIFA World Cup installations begin to be implemented in all 12 host cities," FIFA said Thursday in a statement.

Copa Libertadores Preview: Atletico PR host Velez in crucial Group One clash

The battle to qualify from the Copa Libertadores´ Group One is set to intensify, with Atletico Paranaense and Velez Sarsfield doing battle.

Brazil´s Atletico PR and Argentine outfit Velez will meet at the Estadio Durival de Brito e Silva on Wednesday, with both sides locked on nine points and plus-three goal difference.

The tightness of the top three in the group is bound to leave one side unlucky, and despite three wins from four matches, neither side is assured of progression with a win.

Miguel Portugal´s men should be heavily favoured in Curitiba, where they have not lost in continental competition in their past seven matches.

The Strongest are on the road at Peru´s Universitario on Thursday, and the Bolivian club can continue to heap the pressure on the top two in Group One with victory over the cellar-dwellers.

Eduardo Villegas´ men from La Paz have six points with two games to play, and if they enforce a fifth straight loss on Universitario in this competition, they will have their fate in their own hands come the final matchday.

In Group Two, bottom sides Independiente del Valle and San Lorenzo (both four points) will go head-to-head in a virtual elimination battle on Thursday.

Ecuador´s Independiente are at home and a win over their Argentine counterparts would significantly boost their chances of reeling in Botafogo (seven) and Union Espanola (six), who play their next fixture in April.

Also on Thursday, top plays bottom in Group Three as Argentina´s Lanus (four points) tackle Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno (seven).

In other Wednesday fixtures, Colombia´s Deportivo Cali welcome Chilean outfit O´Higgins in a crucial Group Three tie, while Leon of Mexico can seal progression to the knockout stages with a win at home to Bolivian side Bolivar, Venezuela´s Deportivo Anzoategui host Arsenal of Argentina and another Argentine outfit Newell´s Old Boys will travel to Uruguay to play Nacional.

Zamora will begin the week´s Copa Libertadores action on Tuesday when they welcome Paraguayan club Nacional Asuncion to Venezuela, while Mexico´s Santos Laguna will face Penarol of Uruguay.

At Harbour View Stadium, Alpha United struck in each half and defeated Trinidad & Tobago’s Defence Force, 2-0.
