Costa Rica Primera Division Wrap: Herediano take control

Herediano regained the Costa Rica Primera Division lead as the topsy-turvy battle at the top continued.

Marvin Solano´s men have been involved in a battle with Deportivo Saprissa at the top and both have held first place at stages this season.

But after Saprissa drew 1-1 at Limon on Saturday, Herediano took advantage with a 4-2 victory at home to Santos de Guapiles.

Herediano (30 points) sit just ahead of Saprissa (29), while Alajuelense (22) have a game in hand in third.

In Heredia on Sunday, mid-table Santos de Guapiles stunned the hosts thanks to Antonio Salazar opening the scoring on five minutes.

But Solano´s side were 3-1 ahead before half-time as Esteban Granados, Victor Nunez and Francisco Calvo netted.

Nunez scored his ninth league goal of the season to make it 4-1 on 79 minutes, before Juan Solis netted a consolation effort for the visitors.

Saprissa were forced to come from behind to take a point from fifth-placed Limon.

Mayron George´s 12th-minute opener was cancelled out by Carlos Saucedo in the first half as the teams shared the spoils.

Alajuelense were also held to a 1-1 draw as Puntarenas came from behind to clinch a point.

Venezuela Primera Division Wrap: Trujillanos thrash Yaracuyanos

In-form Trujillanos moved top of the Venezuela Primera Division as Mineros de Guayana missed a chance to go second.

Pedro Vera´s Trujillanos eased to their fourth straight league win with a resounding 4-0 victory at Yaracuyanos.

With Zamora still out of action due to Copa Libertadores duties, Trujillanos took advantage to go a point clear at the top but having played two more games.

Ernesto Zerpa´s own goal sent Trujillanos on their way at Yaracuyanos before Edward Bracho added a second on 34 minutes.

Irwin Anton and Freddys Arrieta struck in the final 17 minutes against a side sitting 16th with just one win this season.

Mineros de Guayana were unable to climb above Zamora and into second after being held 1-1 at Deportivo Tachira.

Caracas and Tucanes – fourth and fifth respectively – played out a 1-1 draw.

Deportivo Lara suffered their first loss of the season as Carabobo claimed an impressive 4-2 win at the Estadio Metropolitano de Futbol de Lara and Jose Moreno´s first-half brace helped Deportivo Anzoategui to a 3-0 win at home to Deportivo La Guaira.

Sergio Ortiz´s 59th-minute goal saw Aragua to a 1-0 win at Atletico El Vigia, Atletico Venezuela were 2-0 winners at home to Zulia and Llaneros de Guanare edged Deportivo Petare 1-0.

Colombia Primera A: Millonarios edge towards top spot

Millonarios continue to edge closer to Colombia Primera A leaders Atletico Nacional after a fourth straight win on Sunday.

Dayro Moreno´s 20th-minute goal helped Millonarios to a 1-0 win at bottom side Fortaleza and within two points of top spot.

Atletico Nacional were held to a second straight draw as third-placed Once Caldas kept them goalless on Saturday.

Moreno´s tap-in was all Millonarios needed against a Fortaleza side who have just one win in 12 games.

Santa Fe were the third of the top four teams to fail to score in the 12th round as they drew 0-0 at home to Boyaca Chico.

La Equidad claimed their first win in a month as Fredy Hinestroza´s goal saw them edge Atletico Huila 1-0.

Itagui and Junior also only needed a goal each to claim 1-0 victories over Deportes Tolima and Envigado respectively.

Ecuador Primera A Wrap: Emelec´s dominance continues

Emelec´s dominance of the Ecuador Primera A continued on Sunday, while Deportivo Cuenca finally won.

Gustavo Quinteros´ Emelec side have been largely unstoppable early in the season and that continued with a 3-0 win over LDU Quito.

http://www.youtube.com/w…AknRhbBjjT0

The league leaders have played two fewer games than their nearest rivals but are still three points clear after seven wins and a draw to start the campaign.

Marcos Caicedo put Emelec ahead in the eighth minute at their Estadio George Capwell home with a left-footed 20-yard free-kick.

Miller Bolanos doubled the advantage on 25 minutes as the attacking midfielder was found in acres of space in the area and had time to place his finish into the bottom corner.

A lovely team move led to the third in second-half additional time with Robert Burbano the beneficiary, neatly finishing from close range to complete the 3-0 win.

Independiente del Valle failed to keep the pressure on Emelec as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Barcelona.

At the other end of the table, Deportivo Cuenca claimed their first win in 10 league games with a 3-2 victory at home to fellow strugglers Mushuc Runa.

http://www.youtube.com/w…pPHETSpT394

Ronaldo Johnson gave Cuenca a 16th-minute lead before Juan Manuel Cobelli´s close-range header just after the half-hour mark made it 2-0.

Gustavo Nazareno pulled a goal back four minutes before half-time with a scrappy effort after a corner went uncleared.

Cobelli was fortunate to restore Cuenca´s two-goal advantage just after the hour-mark as his 20-yard strike crept under some sloppy goalkeeping.

Carlos Quintero´s cracking volley for Mushuc made for a nervous finish but Cuenca held on to move to within two points of getting off the bottom.

Elsewhere, Oscar Ayala´s 86th-minute goal helped LDU Loja to a 1-0 win at Olmedo, while Alberto Gomez´s effort was enough for Manta to overcome El Nacional 1-0.

Real Potosi continued their unbeaten start to the Liga del Futbol Profesional Boliviano season as city rivals Nacional claimed a rare win.

Despite an 11-game unbeaten run to begin the campaign, Real Potosi are only a point clear at the top after their 2-0 victory at Wilstermann on Sunday.

http://www.youtube.com/w…P2dO1c16PVE

Julio Cesar Baldivieso´s side have drawn six times but they were never in any real trouble at Wilstermann´s Estadio Felix Capriles.

Limbert Mendez headed in a 16th-minute opener and there were few other clear-cut chances before the visitors sealed the points in the dying stages.

Freddy Chispas´ strike from the left went in at the near post, securing the victory for Real Potosi.

Nacional Potosi´s second victory of the season came in thrilling fashion as a stunning second half saw them beat Aurora 3-2.

http://www.youtube.com/w…OrGMxG02tDs

Visitors Aurora looked on track for a comfortable win as Santos Amador headed in the opener and Eduardo Vallecillo tapped in a set-piece in the first half.

The hosts´ recovery at the Estadio Victor Agustin Ugarte started seven minutes into the second half as Bryan Aldave drilled a penalty down the middle.

Rodrigo Vargas´ low 20-yard free-kick on 78 minutes found the bottom corner – and went through the net – to draw Nacional level.

Aldave headed in the winner in the 86th minute to see Nacional move within three points of 11th-placed Wilstermann.

Second-placed San Jose stayed a point behind top spot after staging a comeback of their own to beat Guabira 4-3.

San Jose trailed 3-1 at half-time before second-half goals from Marcelo Gomes, Hector Calderon and Carlos Neumann saw them to their win.

Club Universitario slipped two points behind Real Potosi after only managing a 1-1 draw at home to Sport Boys.

Jair Reynoso´s 90th-minute winner saw The Strongest claim their second straight victory by beating Blooming 2-1, while Gualberto Mojica´s hat-trick led Oriente Petrolero to a 4-0 thrashing of Bolivar.

Chile Primera Division Wrap: Colo Colo win again

Colo Colo continued their impressive form to move seven points clear atop the Chile Primera Division on Sunday.

Hours after Universidad Catolica had been thrashed by Universidad Chile, Colo Colo took advantage with a 3-0 victory at home to O´Higgins.

Colo Colo´s 10th win in 12 games pushed them into 32 points, seven ahead of Universidad Catolica and well clear of Deportes Iquique (22) and O´Higgins (22).

Hector Tapia´s men would have expected to be seriously tested at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano, yet were ahead after two minutes.

A sloppy turnover of possession in midfield led to Felipe Flores putting away Jose Fuenzalida´s cross to make it 1-0.

O´Higgins stayed in the contest until the 81st minute as Colo Colo doubled their lead through substitute Claudio Baeza.

Another substitute, Mathias Vidangossy, did all the hard work down the left and squared for Baeza to tap in the easiest of goals.

Fuenzalida saw red with four minutes to play after a dangerous slide tackle.

But his side managed to score once more to finish after Jaime Valdes was brought down by goalkeeper Paulo Garces, and Esteban Paredes put away the penalty.

Patricio Rubio´s brace was the key for Universidad Chile in their win over Catolica, with Gustavo Lorenzetti netting the game´s other goal.

Elsewhere, Javier Elizondo´s 90th-minute penalty saw Antofagasta to a 2-1 win over Palestino and Universidad Concepcion claimed a 2-1 victory over Santiago Wanderers.

Cobresal secured a 1-0 win at Union La Calera, Huachipato and Audax Italiano drew 0-0 and Cobresal claimed a 2-1 victory at home to Nublense.

Deportes Iquique beat Everton 2-0 and bottom side Rangers suffered yet another loss, thrashed 4-0 by Union Espanola.

Paraguay Division Profesional Wrap: Libertad stretch lead

Libertad pulled four points clear atop the Paraguay Division Profesional with Nacional Asuncion out of action on matchday six.

Pedro Sarabia´s league-leading Libertad claimed a hard-fought come-from-behind 2-1 win at lowly 12 de Octubre on Saturday.

With Nacional Asuncion´s clash against 3 de Febrero postponed due to their involvement in the Copa Libertadores, it saw unbeaten Libertad move four points clear at the top.

But they did it the hard way against a side still winless and sitting bottom with just one point.

Joel Lesme gave the hosts a surprise 38th-minute lead at the Estadio Juan Canuto Pettengill in Itaugua.

But Rodrigo Lopez continued his hot form for Libertad by levelling on 49 minutes with his seventh goal in five matches this year.

Lopez has scored in every match he has played in 2014 and when he missed – against Sportivo Luqueno in February – Libertad failed to claim three points for the only time this league season.

Claudio Vargas struck on the hour-mark to put Libertad ahead and they held on despite having substitute Brian Montenegro sent off in stoppage time.

Sol de America and Guarani took advantage of Nacional Asuncion´s absence by closing in on second place.

Ignacio Mino´s brace led Sol de America to a 4-2 win at home to General Diaz, who had drawn level twice in the first half to go into the break at 2-2.

But Mino netted the second of his goals on 54 minutes and Cristian Ovelar sealed the points soon after as Sol de America moved to within two points of Nacional Asuncion.

Late goals from Ivan Gonzalez and Fernando Fernandez saw Guarani move to 10 points alongside Sol de America with a 2-0 victory at winless Deportivo Capiata.

Braces from Matias Lequi and Rodrigo Teixeira helped Sportivo Luqueno to a 4-1 win at Rubio Nu, while Cerro Porteno and Olimpia drew 2-2.

Uruguay Primera Division Wrap: Fenix, River Plate clear at the top

Fenix and River Plate edged clear atop the Uruguay Primera Division as Danubio, Penarol and Wanderers dropped points on matchday eight.

A 2-1 win at home to Miramar Misiones saw Fenix stay top, with River Plate alongside them on 17 points but a weaker goal difference.

Danubio are two points back after drawing at home to Defensor Sporting, Penarol a further point behind after a loss against Cerro and Wanderers were beaten by River Plate.

Martin Liguera and Anibal Hernandez were on the scoresheet for Juan Tejera´s Fenix, who held on for victory against Miramar Misiones despite Cristian Colman´s 76th-minute goal.

Miramar Misiones are bottom after seven straight league losses, with their slump coming after they had won their opening game of the campaign.

River Plate ensured they would stay in touch with a 1-0 win at home to Wanderers coming courtesy of Leandro Rodriguez´s 65th-minute goal.

Danubio were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Defensor Sporting.

Matias Alonso put the visitors ahead before Jonathan Alvez equalised but there were no goals after the two in the opening 14 minutes.

Like Wanderers, Penarol were also beaten as Juan Delgado´s goal on the hour-mark was enough for Cerro to win 1-0.

Juventud claimed a rare win and inflicted Nacional´s fourth loss in five league games with a 1-0 victory.

Jaime Baez´s 89th-minute effort saw Juventud, who are second bottom, up to seven points, while Nacional´s poor form sees them in mid-table.

Rentistas sit sixth after extending their unbeaten league run to four games with a 1-1 draw at home to El Tanque Sisley.

Racing are unbeaten in five after a 3-1 win at home to Sud America, while Cerro Largo and Liverpool played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
