Guillermo Barros Schelotto: "Es fundamental ganar"

BUENOS AIRES -- Guillermo Barros Schelotto, director técnico de Lanús, destacó el miércoles que su equipo debe ser más "profundo" para obtener un buen resultado el jueves ante Cerro Porteño de Paraguay, cuando lo reciba desde las 18.30 por el Grupo 3 de la Copa Libertadores.

"Cerro Porteño es un equipo muy bueno, con jugadores de categoría y experiencia. Tenemos que ser más profundos de lo que fuimos contra River, porque aunque jugamos mejor que ellos, nos faltó profundidad para ganarlo", expresó Barros Schelotto.

Para el Mellizo, es "fundamental ganar" el encuentro del jueves para "mantener las chances de clasificar a la siguiente ronda". "Tenemos que tomar el protagonismo desde el comienzo, con orden, juego y paciencia", pidió el DT.

Sobre las continuas lesiones del delantero Lautaro Acosta, quien sufrió un desgarro isquiotibial izquierdo el domingo último, Guillermo sostuvo que "hay que cuidarlo".

"Estuvimos hablando con él para hacer algún entrenamiento especial e incluirlo en los partidos cuando sepamos que está en muy buenas condiciones", enfatizó.

"Corre demasiado y a veces eso le genera lesiones. Lo tenemos que recuperar porque es un jugador muy importante para nosotros", añadió.

En tanto, en referencia al nivel general de la Copa Libertadores, Barros Schelotto piensa que no surgió ningún equipo "muy sólido". "Yo jugué varias copas y sé que la fase de grupos es lo más difícil. Pero me da la impresión de que este año es aún más complicado, porque los equipos son parejos, no hay ninguno que sobresalga", explicó.

"Todos han perdido partidos, por lo que no se puede hablar de un candidato a ganar la Copa. Espero que nosotros podamos detener esa irregularidad en estos partidos que nos quedan y clasificarnos", concluyó el técnico de Lanús.

Racing: ensayo de fútbol con tres cambios

BUENOS AIRES -- A poco más de 72 horas para el partido que Racing disputará ante Atlético Rafaela, Reinaldo Merlo dispuso un ensayo de fútbol formal, con tres variantes con respecto a los once que superaron a Belgrano.

Ingresaron al equipo titular Pablo Alvarado, Francisco Cerro y Gabriel Hauche, en lugar de Yonathan Cabral, Gastón Campi y Valentín Viola, respectivamente.

Almirón, previo a All Boys: "Tenemos que tratar de ganar el partido"

MENDOZA -- El director técnico de Godoy Cruz, Jorge Almirón, destacó el miércoles que "nosotros vamos a tratar de ganar el partido" en Floresta, en tanto adelantó que repetiría el mismo equipo titular para visitar el viernes desde las 17.00 a All Boys, en el marco de la 10ma. fecha del torneo Final, encuentro que será controlado por Silvio Trucco.

El entrenador del Tomba señaló tras la práctica de la jornada, que "la idea es repetir el mismo equipo, pero igualmente tengo mañana (jueves) para trabajar en Buenos Aires. Siempre hay cosas que uno tiene que mejorar, pero por ahí, tal vez el equipo que jugó el último partido se lo ganó".

"Tenemos que tratar de ganar el partido -dijo-, para quedar igual que ellos. Son tres puntos muy valiosos los que están en juego y lo importante en que no se nos despeguen, porque el hecho de perder sería bastante complicado para nosotros".

Más adelante, Almirón dijo que "en caso que se llegara a empatar, faltan igual muchas fechas. La evaluación que hago yo, es que nosotros vamos a ganar más partidos que ellos en lo que resta del torneo. Por eso es importante que el viernes podamos traernos algo".

Los probables titulares del equipo bodeguero, que estarán el viernes en Floresta, serían los siguientes: Jorge Carranza; Sebastián Olivares, Nicolás Sánchez y Leandro Grimi; José San Román, Diego Rodríguez, Gonzalo Castellani y José Luis Fernández; Claudio Aquino; Facundo Castillón y Mauro Obolo.

Unos mil policías para custodiar el Superclásico en La Bombonera

BUENOS AIRES -- Unos mil policías estarán afectados a la seguridad del Superclásico Boca-River, el domingo próximo en La Bombonera, en la que solo habrá público local.

Así lo adelantaron fuentes de Seguridad.

Boca informó que el Comité de Seguridad dispuso que podrán ingresar 27.525 socios a las tribunas generales.

Ante ello, las autoridades boquenses pusieron a la disposición dos mil entradas para socios adherentes a partir de las 12 del viernes.

El próximo domingo el público podrá ingresar a la Bombonera a partir de las 14.10.

Boca Juniors habilitará cerca de 28.000 lugares en las tribunas populares para sus socios el próximo domingo, en el Superclásico ante River Plate, pero con la modalidad de que esos socios que concurran a La Bombonera deben haber asistido al menos a dos partidos en los últimos 6 meses.

El club informó oficialmente esta tarde que los molinetes de ingreso para las tribunas baja y media que dan a Casa Amarilla y al Riachuelo estarán programados para controlar esa modalidad, y que los socios que quieran presenciar el superclásico deben haber asistido a dos partidos como mínimo desde el 31 de agosto de 2013 a la fecha.

En la tribuna alta que da al Riachuelo, adonde en los últimos meses se ubicaban los 4.000 socios adherentes que Boca habilitaba en la previa de cada encuentro, se ubicarán los socios activos y habrá también 2.000 lugares para los socios adherentes.

El club de la Ribera indicó asimismo que no habrá partido preliminar, ya que las reservas de Boca y River jugarán a las 10.00 del domingo en el predio de Casa Amarilla.

Las puertas del estadio se abrirán a las 15.00, y los dirigentes xeneizes pidieron a los socios que se ubican en las tribunas populares que concurran temprano, ya que cuando las autoridades encargadas de la seguridad consideren que la capacidad de esas tribunas estén colmadas, se cerrarán las puertas de acceso a esos sectores.

Costa Rica Primera Division Wrap: Saprissa leapfrog Herediano

Deportivo Saprissa went top of the Costa Rica Primera Division on Wednesday, after Herediano were embarrassed at Alajuelense.

Saprissa enjoyed a 2-0 home win over Uruguay to move them to 32 points, while Herediano fell two points off the pace after Alajuelense cantered to a 5-2 victory.

Armando Alonso and Jonathan McDonald both scored braces for Alajuelense, while Camilo Aguirre added the fifth goal for the rampant winners.

The then-leaders got off to a brilliant start, when Esteban Granados tapped into an empty net on 14 minutes to give the visitors to the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto the lead.

Verny Scott squared the ball for Granados from the byline, and the midfielder simply had to put the ball on target to score.

McDonald equalised for Alajuelense, netting in the 34th minute after Herediano failed to clear from a set piece.

The Alajuelense forward doubled his tally with a simply chest-in three minutes into the second half.

Alonso got on the scoresheet moments later, as he worked a wonderful one-two with midfielder Alvaro Sanchez before finishing past the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Ten minutes later, it was 4-1 and Alonso had a brace with a straightforward tap-in as the result of a flicked on header from a corner.

Aguirre then curled a lovely left-footed effort from inside the area into the back of the net, before Esteban Ramirez scored a late consolation for the defeated Herediano.

Saprissa were powered to victory by first-half strikes to Manfred Russell and Hanzell Arauz in their win over Uruguay.

Carmelita are just three points behind third-placed Alajuelense, after a 2-0 road win over UCR.

Belen Siglo XXI and Perez Zeledon both won, with the bottom two sides having victories over Santos de Guapiles and Limon respectively.

William Ferreira´s 70th-minute strike at the Estadio Leon was enough to hand the Bolivian outfit all three points.

Leon, a Liga MX club, sit second in the group, one shy of new leaders Bolivar. Emelec and Flamengo sit third and fourth but have a game in hand.

The Argentine outfit had the benefit of playing against 10 men for much of the second half, and scored twice with their numerical advantage.

Agustin Allione opened the scoring for the visitors in Brazil, and their chances of holding on to win increased when Atletico went down to 10 as Fran Merida was dismissed on 51 minutes.

However, the home side would go on to score three minutes later to restore some hope, but Lucas Pratto reinstated Velez´s lead before Hector Canteros topped off the scoring on 90 minutes.

An Andre Scotti penalty on 61 minutes restored parity for Nacional, but the hosts would be decimated by dismissals shortly after.

Flamengo ease to 3-0 Carioca state win against Cabofriense

Flamengo will take a commanding lead into the second leg of their Carioca state championship semi final against Cabofriense in two days´ time after beating their oppoents for the second time in the space of a week on Wednesday evening.

The Rio de Janeiro giants beat their lesser known rivals 5-3 on Saturday in the final group game of the tournament and delivered again by thrashing them 3-0 to all but guarantee a place in the final and a chance to play for a state crown against the winners of Fluminense and Vasco da Gama.

Flamengo took a 1-0 lead into half time after a strike from midfielder Everton and cantered away to victory thanks to further scores from on loan forward Paulinho and 33 year-old veteran Alecsandro.

U.S. reveals roster ahead of Mexico friendly

CHICAGO – The United States announced Wednesday that 22 players have been selected to participate in a training camp ahead of its international friendly against Mexico on April 2 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

This will be the Americans’ final match before opening their 2014 FIFA World Cup preparation camp.

"Everyone knows the clock is ticking," said head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "This is a huge opportunity for our players to show where they are at and to make their case. We expect them to give a really strong performance against a Mexican team that is now basically coming back on track. They need to prove now that they badly want to go to Brazil."

Led by Seattle Sounders forward and U.S. captain Clint Dempsey, the vast majority of the roster consists of players from Major League Soccer, with a total of 19 players from 11 clubs. The Puebla pair of DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco come from Liga MX.

Since the match does not fall on an international fixture date, a great majority of the team’s European-based players will not be available. Bayern Munich forward Julian Green, though, received permission to participate in what could be his first full international appearance.
