Venezuela Primera Division Wrap: Zamora stay top

Zamora maintained their three-point advantage atop the Venezuela Primera Division as the top five claimed wins on matchday 15.

Noel Sanvicente´s Zamora (35 points) thrashed Carabobo 6-2 on Sunday, but they remain under pressure in their bid to reach the final by finishing top.

Trujillanos (32), Mineros de Guayana (31), Tucanes (30) and Deportivo Tachira (28) were also victors over the weekend.

But Zamora remain in pole position to face Mineros de Guayana, the Apertura champions, after their hammering of Carabobo.

Juan Falcon and John Murillo struck in the opening half-hour for the hosts at the Estadio Rafael Agustin Tovar in Barinas.

Pablo Olivera pulled a goal back for the visitors, but a four-goal, 16-minute blitz to start the second half set up Zamora.

Luis Vargas started the run in the 46th minute before Pedro Ramirez, Murillo and Falcon netted to make it 6-1.

Omar Perdomo scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 82nd minute.

Trujillanos were similarly impressive in a 5-0 thrashing of Atletico El Vigia.

Freddys Arrieta was the hero with a hat-trick, while Arquimedes Figueroa and James Cabezas struck either side of the treble.

Mineros de Guayana were too good for Atletico Venezuela in a 3-1 win, while Tucanes claimed a 3-1 victory at home to Estudiantes de Merida.

Deportivo Tachira edged to a fourth straight league win by overcoming Caracas 3-2.

Deportivo Anzoategui ended a seven-match winless run in all competitions in style, brushing past Llaneros de Guanare 6-1.

Yohan Cumana, Evelio Hernandez, Oscar Briseno. Rolando Escobar, Jaime Moreno and Manuel Arteaga were on the scoresheet for the victors.

Elsewhere, Yaracuyanos overcame Zulia 2-0, Deportivo La Guaira edged Deportivo Lara 1-0 and Deportivo Petare were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Aragua.

Colombia Primera A Wrap: Atletico Nacional, Santa Fe poised for semis

Atletico Nacional and Santa Fe are on the verge of reaching the semi-finals in Colombia´s Primera A after both recorded crushing away wins.

Juan Carlos Osorio´s Atletico Nacional trounced Envigado 4-1 in the opening leg of their Apertura quarter-final tie on Saturday, while Santa Fe also eased past Once Caldas by the same scoreline.

https://www.youtube.com/…Hy5Kbx46_nc

Atletico Nacional went into the clash full of confidence after edging Brazilian giants Atletico Mineiro 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals midweek.

And the visiting side made the perfect start at the Estadio Polideportivo when veteran defender Elkin Calle found the back of the net on six minutes.

Former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel doubled Atletico Nacional´s advantage eight minutes before the half-time break, springing the offside trap to net his first league goal away from home this season.

Envigado got back into the contest four minutes into the second half courtesy of captain Neider Morantes´ penalty.

That only seemed to spur Atletico Nacional into action with Luis Paez and Edwin Cardona scoring in the space of 20 minutes to put the Colombian powerhouse in the box seat ahead of next week´s return leg.

Santa Fe enjoyed identical success against Once Caldas at the Estadio Palogrande thanks to Wilder Medina´s brace.

Omar Perez and Jefferson Cuero put Santa Fe two goals ahead after 32 minutes but Carlos Robles reduced the deficit five minutes later.

Medina restored the visitors´ two-goal buffer two minutes from the interval and it got worse for Once Caldas after half time when goalkeeper Jose Cuadrado saw red on the hour mark.

Santa Fe made the most of their numerical advantage with Medina scoring his second from the penalty spot in the 67th minute to cap a dominant performance.

In results on Sunday, Mayer Candelo´s 65th-minute goal lifted Millonarios to a priceless 1-0 away win over La Equidad at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo.

Ecuador Primera A Wrap: Mondaini fires Emelec to road win

A Marcos Mondaini brace buoyed Emelec to a 3-1 win at Manta in Ecuador´s Primera A, to preserve their buffer at the top.

Emelec are six points clear of second side LDU Loja, and also have a game in hand - with Gustavo Quinteros´ men at their brilliant best on Saturday.

Mondaini struck in the 27th minute, before Angel Mena doubled the champions´ lead 12 minutes later.

Alberto Gomez pulled a goal back for Manta early in the second half, but Mondaini had the response for Emelec on 64 minutes to seal their 10th win of the phase in 14 games.

LDU Loja beat Universidad Catolica 1-0 at home, to move clear second in the table.

Byron Calva´s goal two minutes prior to half-time was enough for Loja to grab all three points, and sit on 27 for the season - clear of Independiente del Valle (25) and Catolica (24).

Independiente slipped to a third straight loss, as they were humbled 3-2 away at LDU Quito.

Christian Nunez had fired Independiente ahead on 10 minutes, but quickfire goals to Luis Congo and Fernando Hidalgo had them 2-1 up just 14 minutes later.

Hidalgo completed his brace early in the second half, before Jesus Solis pulled a goal back for Independiente, although it would serve only as consolation.

LDU Quito joined fellow bottom-three clubs Mushuc Runa and Deportivo Cuenca in getting on the winners´ list.

Bottom club Deportivo Cuenca defeated mid-table El Nacional 3-1 on the road, with goals to Andres Lopez, Juan Cobelli and Eduardo Morante firing the cellar-dwellers to victory.

Mushuc Runa produced a stirring 3-2 win away at Olmedo, coming from two goals down with half an hour to play.

Christian Cordero´s three-minute brace drew Mushuc Runa level, before Maximiliano Barreiro struck the winner with six minutes to play.

Barcelona moved fifth courtesy of their third straight win, as they held off Deportivo Quito 1-0.

Flavio Caicedo scored the winning goal for Barca on 52 minutes.

Chile Primera Division Wrap: Paredes nets five, Palestino reach play-offs

Esteban Paredes put on a clinic for Colo Colo on Sunday, scoring five goals in their 5-3 win at Nublense in Chile´s Primera Division.

In the final game of the Clausura phase - which Colo Colo had already wrapped up - Paredes almost doubled his season tally in 90 minutes.

Paredes finished the season with 11 goals, after twice helping Colo Colo regain the lead in a thrilling contest at Nublense´s Estadio Bicentenario Municipal Nelson Oyarzun.

Jose Rojas opened the scoring for Nublense on 22 minutes, but Paredes had Colo Colo ahead by half-time as he entered the dressing rooms on a hat-trick.

Sebastian Varas drew Nublense level 10 minutes into the second half, but Paredes´ response was emphatic - putting Colo Colo back ahead a minute later.

Paredes´ fourth - a penalty - came eight minutes later, although Nublense did not go away, as Varas´ second ensured a nervous finish.

The man of the moment sealed the three points for Colo Colo, with his fifth on 82 minutes wrapping up a dazzling 43-minute blitz.

Joining Colo Colo in the play-offs are Universidad Catolica (33 points), O´Higgins (30), Universidad de Concepcion (27) and Palestino (26).

Universidad de Concepcion shattered Deportes Iquique´s hopes of reaching the finals, beating the top-five aspirants 1-0 on the road to climb into fourth.

Michael Lepe´s 65th-minute goal turned out to be the winner, and Concepcion held on despite losing Francisco Portillo to a red card with eight minutes to play.

Huachipato could not break down Everton as they limped to a 0-0 draw that ended their hopes of progressing into the next phase.

Palestino earned fifth place, with a 1-1 draw at Audax Italiano.

Given Huachipato and Deportes Iquique slipped up, Palestino did not need a point from the clash, but earned one via Marcelo Morales´ 85th-minute equaliser.

Cobreloa finished the season on a high, thrashing Universidad Chile 4-0 away from home.

Cobresal were 2-0 winners over Union Espanola, who lost four of their past five to miss the top-five spots by just three points.

Antofagasta came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Santiago Wanderers, while Universidad Catolica overcame a first-minute concession to draw 1-1 with Union La Calera.

O´Higgins denied Rangers´ attempt to avoid finishing bottom of the table, equalising late for a 1-1 draw against them.

Paraguay Division Profesional Wrap: Top two felled, Rubio Nu win big

Rubio Nu increased the pain on bottom club 3 de Febrero, with a 5-1 win in Paraguay´s Division Profesional on Saturday.

After a promising start to the season, 3 de Febrero have gone winless in seven - including five straight losses - the most recent of which seeing them ship 18 goals in their losing streak.

The visitors to the Estadio Don Eduardo Acosta Caballero were their own worst enemy, as an own goal to Felipe in the 22nd minute put Rubio Nu ahead.

Claudio Correa doubled their advantage nine minutes later, although 3 de Febrero got back in the contest on 34 minutes when David Mendieta scored.

However, Rubio Nu quickly put the game beyond 3 de Febrero´s reach, with Jorge Ortega reinstating their two-goal buffer prior to half-time and additional goals to Diego Figueredo and Victor Gomez in the second half sealing the three points.

Top two clubs Libertad and Guarani were both beaten at the weekend, to preserve the former´s six-point advantage in the table.

Libertad fell to a 2-1 loss to Olimpia, who remained in third - seven points behind the leaders.

https://www.youtube.com/…_6q0NTmv0Vw

Guarani were embarrassed 4-0 at home to Nacional Asuncion, who stayed level on points with Olimpia.

https://www.youtube.com/…MHiAr0gxupE

Sol de America also had a big win on the road, cruising to a 3-1 win at Sportivo Luqueno for their first triumph in five matches.

https://www.youtube.com/…21ZcjZ4117w

Deportivo Capiata and 12 de Octubre did neither of their poor predicaments any good, as they played out a 2-2 draw to keep them in the bottom three.

General Diaz sit just above those sides in ninth spot, after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Cerro Porteno.

Brazil Serie A Wrap: Fluminense maintain perfect record

Fluminense are the only remaining team with a perfect record in Brazil´s Serie A after their narrow win over Palmeiras on Saturday.

Rafael Sobis´ goal on the stroke of half time proved the difference as Fluminense edged Palmeiras 1-0 at the Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho, preserving their 100 per cent record in the process.

Fluminense have opened the season with back-to-back wins to sit top of the table on six points.

The Laranjeiras-based outfit are two points clear of defending champions Cruzeiro, Sao Paulo, Internacional and Atletico PR, who are locked on four points after slipping up over the weekend.

And Fluminense´s star striker Fred paid tribute to coach Cristovao Borges following the club´s recent triumph.

"Our movement is very good," said the Brazil international. "To come here and have this result is a great result.

"The coach deserves merit. He arrived, picked the team and uses his quality to get us to do what he asks."

Cruzeiro and Sao Paulo met in a blockbuster clash on Sunday but were forced to share the spoils after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Estadio Municipal Joao Havelange.

Former Real Madrid and Arsenal striker Julio Baptista put Cruzeiro ahead five minutes after the break and that appeared enough for maximum points until Antonio Carlos levelled proceedings in the second minute of injury time.

Internacional also missed the chance to make it two wins from two after they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Botafogo.

A first-half brace from Rafael Moura put the visitors in the box seat before two goals in 11 minutes from Emerson Sheik and Pablo Zeballos salvaged a point for winless Botafogo, who ended the match with 10 men following Lucas´ red card.

Two goals in the space of five minutes from Mosquito and Marcelo earned Atletico PR a 2-2 draw with Vitoria.

In other results, Corinthians moved third in the standings courtesy of a 2-0 victory over 10-man Flamengo.

Gremio upstaged rivals Atletico Mineiro 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Alan Ruiz and Lucas Coelho.

Sport Recife won their first match of the season, accounting for lowly Chapecoense 2-1.

Santos were forced to play out a goalless draw against Coritiba, while Figueirense lost 2-0 at home to Bahia.

Elsewhere, Amaral netted an 82nd-minute goal as Goias defeated Criciuma 1-0.
