Universidad de Chile Announces Own Stadium
SANTIAGO — The football club Universidad de Chile announced, the club is going to have their very own stadium in Pudahuel by the end of 2016. The construction works are supposed to start in about a year and should last 18 months.
This was explained by Carlos Heller, president of the “Azul Azul” club U de Chile on Friday, 25th of April. “Today is a historic day, a day-dream in the minds of the fans of the Universidad de Chile for many years,” said Heller in a press conference.
The stadium is going to be built on a 34 hectare area in the Eastern sector of the Metropolitan park Laguna Carén in the Pudahuel commune in the West of Santiago de Chile. The stadium will have the capacity to accommodate between 30 and 35 thousand people. Even though the name of the stadium is not defined yet, it is clear already that the construction is going to cost more than 50 million US Dollars.
Universidad de Chile’s investment also includes other projects such as reforestation of the Cerro Amapola to create a park for public use of 28 hectares with sports fields, running, cycling and trekking circuits.
Meanwhile, Universidad de Chile is also going to build a country club for the university community. This was the main announcement by Heller few days ago, when he became President of the sports club.
The rector of the House of Studies, which will lease the land to Blue-Blue, Víctor Peréz, said this “is a very important start to realize our university project in Laguna Carén. We’ve achieved a very good agreement with the leaders of the Universidad football club, which will be further refined to provide a sporting, social and recreational infrastructure.”
