Libertad stayed seven points clear atop the Paraguay Division Profesional as Olimpia moved into second.

The league leaders have been impressive with nine wins from 12 matches in the Apertura campaign to be well clear at the top.

Nacional Asuncion had been held to a 1-1 draw by Sportivo Luqueno the previous day, and Libertad capitalised to move further clear of the third-placed side.

Lopez needed just nine minutes to get on the scoresheet as he got the slightest touch on a corner to make it 1-0.

Luis Gonzalez levelled from the penalty spot just five minutes later despite slipping as he took the spot-kick.

But Lopez restored Libertad´s lead midway through the first half, on hand to tap in a cross at the back post.

Lopez´s positioning also helped him complete his hat-trick in the 50th minute as he tapped in from close range.

A neat finish from Ivan Gonzalez just after the hour-mark gave the hosts hope but Lopez ended their chances soon after as he capitalised on a rebound to net his fourth.

On Saturday, Nacional Asuncion – who have a game in hand on their nearest rivals – took a 62nd-minute lead thanks to Fabian Balbuena, but Rodrigo Teixeira levelled for the hosts.

Olimpia moved above Nacional Asuncion and into second after Derlis Gonzalez scored a 28th-minute winner to see them past General Diaz 1-0.

Chile Primera Division Wrap: Cobresal, Palestino reach decider

Cobresal and Palestino reached the Chile Primera Division final with strong second-leg wins on Sunday.

With a spot in the 2014 Copa Sudamericana first stage on the line, the two teams will play for a place in the continental competition.

Jose Cantillana´s Cobresal edged to a 3-2 win at Universidad Concepcion to win by the same score on aggregate, while Palestino´s 4-0 thrashing of Cobreloa completed a 5-0 victory.

Juan Cabral put Concepcion ahead on 17 minutes, but a Hans Salinas penalty soon after saw Cobresal level.

Alvaro Navarro added another and while Pedro Munoz equalised, Ever Cantero struck again for Cobresal to complete their win.

Gustavo Quinteros´ Emelec remain top of the table on 34 points, but their lead has been cut to six following Independiente del Valle´s (28 points) comprehensive triumph.

Emelec and Olmedo renewed acquaintances having played out a 1-1 draw in their catch-up game midweek.

Alianza Lima y Universitario volvieron al triunfo y están en la pelea


LIMA -- Alianza Lima y Universitario de Deportes, con buenas exhibiciones del uruguayo Mauro Guevgeozián y Edison Flores, respectivamente, retomaron el protagonismo en los grupos de la Copa del Inca, la primera parte del torneo Descentralizado peruano de este año.

Colombia Primera A Wrap: Reigning champions roll on

Title-holders Atletico Nacional cruised into the Apertura semi-finals of Colombia´s Primera A with a 6-2 aggregate win over Envigado.

The reigning champions came from behind to beat Envigado 2-1 in their quarter-final second leg on Sunday with Francisco Najera and Juan Pablo Angel scoring the goals for Nacional.

The win saw Nacional join Santa Fe, Junior and Millonarios in the final four of the Colombian Apertura campaign.

Envigado travelled to Medellin knowing they would have to start strongly to reel in the home side´s 4-1 lead from the first leg last week and the visitors´ coach Juan Carlos Sanchez would have been thrilled when Favio Burbano opened the scoring in the third minute.

Burbano finished from near the penalty spot after being teed up by Jonathan Alvarez but Envigado could not build on that early momentum.

In the 72nd minute, Nacional effectively ended the contest when Najera lifted the ball over visiting goalkeeper Victor Soto from close range, following Edwin Cardona´s right-wing cross.

Angel capped off the hosts´ triumph three minutes, converting after Soto fumbled another cross from Cardona.

In Sunday´s other quarter-final, Santa Fe lost 2-1 to Once Caldas but triumphed 5-3 on aggregate.

Junior´s Juan Dominguez was shown a red card in the 27th minute and Itagui took advantage seven minutes later to edge 2-1 ahead on aggregate when Leonardo Castro scored.

But Edison Toloza saved Junior with a second-half brace, scoring the equaliser just before the hour mark and then converting a 79th-minute penalty to send his team into the final four.

Pedro Troglio: "Me voy tranquilo, todavía dependemos de nosotros"

LA PLATA -- El entrenador de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Pedro Troglio, se mostró tranquilo a pesar de no haber podido doblegar a Lanús en el estadio del Bosque, pero aseguró que en la pelea por el título su equipo "depende" de si mismo.

"Me voy tranquilo, puntero en la tabla cuando faltan dos fechas. Todavía seguimos dependiendo nosotros", argumentó Troglio, más allá de que este domingo les dio alcance River Plate.

A pesar de las complicaciones que les genera este empate en la lucha por el título, el director técnico de los Triperos elogió a sus futbolistas: "Los jugadores estuvieron a la altura de las circunstancias. Me quedo con un muy buen partido del equipo ante uno de los mejores de la Argentina".

Ramón Díaz: "El equipo está entero y va a pelear hasta el final"

BUENOS AIRES -- El entrenador de River Plate, Ramón Díaz, aseguró tras la victoria con Racing que su equipo "está entero" y que va a pelear "hasta el final" por el título del Torneo Final, pero pidió "tranquilidad porque son momentos de mucha presión".

"El equipo está entero, pero hay que mantener la tranquilidad porque son momentos de mucha presión", dijo Díaz a la TV Pública apenas terminó el partido en el Monumental, en el que River le ganó ajustadamente a Racing Club por 3-2.

BUENOS AIRES -- El arquero de River Plate, Leandro Chichizola, dijo hoy que "más adelante se verá" si el penal que le atajó a Sebastián Saja sobre la hora en el clásico ante el Racing Club es la pelota del campeoanto.

Former champion Portmore United relegated

Four times champion Portmore United were relegated from the Red Stripe Premier League for the first time after crashing 1-3 to Humble Lion at the Effortville Community Centre today. Portmore ended with 33 points, in 11th spot and joined August Town as the two teams relegated this season.

Head coach Calvin Lewis, who led Portmore United to the crown in 2012, also resigned immediately following a most dismal campaign in which they won only eight games from 33 matches.

Portmore United which started the day in 11th spot on 33 points, need to win to have the slightest of chances of avoiding relegation but crashed 1-3 to Humble Lion after taking a 20th minute lead courtesy of Stephen Williams.

But home team Humble Lion responded with three second half goals by Wolry Wolfe (63rd), Jermaine Christian (77th) and Odane Brown (82nd) that crushed Portmore United and condemned them into parish football for next season.

However, with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announcing major restructuring of the island´s football to a franchise system for the 2015-16 season, Portmore United might not see premier league football again.

The Drewsland outfit finished the preliminary round nine points clear of the second placed team but they must now be full of confidence entering the playoffs that starts next week Monday.

Jevaunie Benjamin (27th), Hughan Gray (72nd), Marvin Morgan (77th), Oshane Roberts (80th) and Kenroy Howell (90+1) netted for Waterhouse who was winning their fifth consecutive game. Sporting Central actually slipped a spot to be 10th with 38 points but well clear of the relegation zone.

Champions Harbour View warmed up for the semi-final with an effortless 4-0 mauling of relegated August Town at the UWI Bowl. Brian Brown netted twice in the 45th and 87th minute taking his tally to a league high 18 goals and have won the Golden Boots Award. Damion Harwood had opened the scoring in the 16thminute and Keith Kelly also netted in the 84th minute. The Stars of the East finished second on 56 points while August Town completed their fixtures at the bottom on 27 points.

In the battle for fifth spot, Tivoli Gardens emerged victorious following their 2-1 win over Rivoli United at Bramwell Clarke Complex in Ewarton, St Catherine. Jameel Thompson and Jeremy Robinson scored for Tivoli Gardens in the 16th and 70thminut es while Devon Hodges notched his 17th goal in the 45thminute. He finished second in the race for the Golden Boots Award. Tivoli Gardens ended with 45 points while Rivoli were sixth on 44 points.

At Stadium East field, Cavalier and Montego Bay United played to a 0-0 stalemate in a game of academic interest only. Montego Bay inched to 53 points to finish third while Cavalier ended eighth on 40 points.
