Er FF17 så blevet "Flu-fan"?

Nja, er og bliver nok kun fanatisk om én klub, men FLU vil blive fulgt tæt - det var mere ment som en indgang til at få interesse og sympati for brasserbolden inden slutrunden.

Klogere på livet efter aftenens debat med FAS har jeg skrevet lidt om Mexicos VM-trup:

"En så talentfuld, omend usammenspillet, trup må være favorit til at joine værterne videre.

Herrera har gennemtvunget en mindre revolution, siden han til de afgørende playoff-kampe udtog en ren hjemlig trup - denne trup tæller da også hele 16 af slagsen. Liga MX er på vej frem, såvel sportsligt som økonomisk.

Værd at bemærke skippede Herrera helt en evt. bruttotrup, hvilket giver nogle overraskelser:
- Ochoa, som udtalte sig negativt om landstrænerskiftet, er definitivt taget til nåde som reservekeeper. Múñoz må være skuffet.
- Salcido var slet ikke blandt Herreras udvalgte i den skuffende CONCACAF-kval, men hans erfaring er klart mere brugbar end elendige Torres Nilo på den venstreback. Miguel Ponce havde jeg dog gerne set med, men klarede ikke final cut.
- Vázquez debuterede i en alder af 25 først i årets to venskabskampe, og har skubbet store Zavala ud i kulden, men Herrera er glad for sin León-midtbanetrio.
- Pulido er ikke en overraskelse som sådan, fordi Vela blev aldrig rigtigt aktuel pga. balladen med El Tris ekstremt nationalstolte tilhængerne og forrige landstræner, men Real Sociedad-anriberen fik alligevel tilbuddet om at kæmpe sig tilbage i VM-varmen af træner Herrera. Vela er eneste afsavn af udlandsprofferne, men den her løsning er nok for det bedste med Mexicos talstærke publikum i Brasilien.
- Personligt savner jeg bredde på hajrebacken, såsom Chávez. De her to backpladser længe været lidt af en pestilens for El Tri.

Så bliver det i øvrigt første slutrunde uden koryfæerne Osorio, Torrado, Muñoz og Sinha.

Afløserne er dog ikke hvilke som helst, da det overvejende er stammen fra det U23-hold, som i 2012 altså gjorde rent bord med guld i Toulon/VM og OL, så man skal ikke kimse ad et på papiret måske knap så kendt hold for os europæere.

Skulle jeg dog endelig finde svagheder, er det som sagt på de meget tynde backer, så jeg funderer over om Mexico ligesom under sidste slutrunde kunne finde på at skifte over til et tremandsforsvar flankeret af to wingbacks?
- Typerne er der i de såvel hurtige som skudstærke Guardado og Aguilar.

Ovenstående brugers (Jeneepan) XI lugter lidt af managerspil-hype, fordi nok nærmere:
- Corona; Aguilar, Moreno, Márquez, Salcido; Peña, Herrera, Guardado, Fabián, dos Santos; Hernández.

Guardado rykkes måske ned på backen, mens Peralta burde egentligt være Chicharitos makker helt fremme - tvivler dog på en decideret angrebsduo mod Brasilien og nok også Kroatiens stærke offensiv."

Jamaica, Egypt to meet in London friendly

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica will face Egypt in an international friendly scheduled for June 4 at London’s Matchroom Stadium, home of Leyton Orient.

Thursday’s announcement was another in a series detailing the Caribbean giant’s growing list of high-profile opponents as it prepares to host the Caribbean Cup finals later this year.

The Reggae Boyz will also meet Serbia (May 26 in Harrison, New Jersey, USA), Switzerland (May 30 in Lucerne) and France (June 8 in Lille).

Captain Horace Burrell, President of the Jamaica Football Federation, believes fixtures of this quality will be critical to the team’s overall technical programme, especially with a place in the 2016 Copa America Centenario at stake.

“Securing another high profile opponent is in keeping with our vision of preparing the team well to compete at the highest level,” said Captain Burrell. “Egypt is a many-time African champion and is ranked highly by FIFA, so that will be a tough test for us.

“All these matches also represent the preparation phase of the upcoming Caribbean Cup, and we must prepare properly and I can’t think of a better way to prepare, especially with the added incentive of a possible place in the centennial 2016 edition of the Copa America.”

Egypt is placed 24th in the latest FIFA Rankings and sits second in the Confederation of African Football behind Côte d´Ivoire.

Jamaica is ranked ninth in CONCACAF and third in the Caribbean Football Union behind Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti.

Captain Burrell expects the upcoming slate of games to be competitive, but noted that they represented a chance for management to assess various players.

“This series of games will be tough and will present the coaching staff, led by Mr Winfried Schaefer, with the opportunity to look at players in different conditions and match situations,” he pointed out.

With the games planned outside of the FIFA calendar, Captain Burrell hopes that the best players would be available.

“What I can say is that we intend to field our strongest possible team in all of these matches,” he concluded.

Honduras international Chavez dealt to Chivas USA

CARSON, California -- Chivas USA announced Thursday that it acquired Honduras international Marvin Chavez from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for striker Luke Moore, who was subsequently traded to Toronto FC.

Chavez is expected to join his new club ahead of Saturday’s Major League Soccer (MLS) match against those same Rapids.

“Chavez is one of the best wide midfielders in the League and is very versatile at creating scoring opportunities,” said Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera.

Following the Week 11 fixture against FC Dallas, the 30-year-old midfielder will head to Honduras’ training camp in South Florida ahead of preparation friendlies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Chavez entered MLS in 2009 with FC Dallas and has scored 12 goals in 98 career games. He played two seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes beginning in 2012, helping them to a place in the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League, where he tallied against the Montreal Impact in a 3-0 win on September 17, 2013.

The former Marathon standout was acquired by Colorado via trade during the off-season and appeared in two matches.

With Honduras, Chavez has acquired 37 caps and netted four goals, competing in nine all-time World Cup Qualifying matches over two cycles. He also played in the 2009 and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cups.

From Atlanta, McCaulay points the way for Belize

ATLANTA, Georgia -- Each day he steps onto a soccer pitch, Deon McCaulay does so with motivation derived from several sources.

The 26-year-old striker plays to make a better life for his family, to represent the people of Belize and to open doors for other Belizean soccer players.

“Growing up in Belize is not something that was very easy. Most young men don’t get very far in life,” stressed McCaulay. “As a kid, I didn’t even own my own football. I didn’t have shoes on my feet. I always try to think about where I come from.”

He is now a member of the Atlanta Silverbacks, signing with the North American Soccer League club in February.

“Life here is good,” McCaulay expressed. “It took a couple of games to get used to what the league is about, but I think I’ve adjusted well. There are a lot more physical players in this league.”

McCaulay previously played professionally in Belize for Kremandala, FC Belize, Belize Defence Force and Belmopan Bandits, in Costa Rica for Puntarenas and for Deportes Savio in Honduras.

He had a trial with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, but his current home is in a city with a population larger than all of Belize.

“I traveled to the U.S. a lot, but now I get to stay here permanently and do my trade here,” McCaulay said. “I’ve adjusted to the lifestyle. I’m grateful to be here and I’m hoping to make the most of the opportunity.”

McCaulay earned worldwide notoriety by scoring a competition-best 11 goals in qualifying for Brazil 2014, matching the totals of Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

“It was one of the best times I had as a goal scorer, especially on the national team,” he noted. “It was a special time for me. When we finished qualifying and saw I had 11 goals I thought surely someone was going to catch me. I guess it was my time.”

Belize didn’t progress to the FIFA World Cup, but the team did play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time last summer. The Jaguars finished bottom in a group that contained the United States, Costa Rica and Cuba. A taste of competing in the prestigious tournament, however, has made McCaulay and his teammates hungry for more, especially with Copa Centroamericana – Central America’s qualifying competition for the Gold Cup -- coming up later in the year.

“We can take a lot of positives and some negatives from the Gold Cup,” McCaulay said. “There’s now incredible growth in football in Belize. A lot of the players are playing professionally and now we know what it takes to win. Now we always want to be in the Gold Cup.”

McCaulay knows there is pressure on him every time he steps on the field, but he embraces it and stays grounded.

“I’m always thinking about my country and where I come from,” McCaulay finished. “We’re a small country. We maybe have 300,000 people. I try to keep calm and humble. I know a lot is expected of me.”

Harbour View held 2-2 by Montego Bay in first leg semis

Harbour View blew a two goal lead and the first leg advantage after being pegged back in an exciting 2-2 draw with Montego Bay United in their Red Stripe Premier League semi-final at the Compound tonight.

The game was delayed for approximately one hour because of electricity block out and actually started 8:17 pm, when it should have kicked off at 7:00pm.

The champions welcomed back their mercurial playmaker Jermaine Hue from a lengthy drugs suspension and within seconds of the opening whistle, Damion Harwood slotted home from close range after good work by Brian Brown in the first minute of play.

The host looked sharp in the early stages and seized control with Hue pulling the strings along with John Ross Edwards, Joel Senior and Nicholas Beckett as they were quicker to the ball. So it was no surprise when Harbour View doubled the lead in the 27th minute when Harwood nodded home a Xavean Virgo right-sided cross.

Montego Bay United slowly clawed their way back into the game and pressured Harbour View into conceding an own goal courtesy of Dicoy Williams in the 34th minute.

But football is a cruel game as seconds after Harwood failed to score his hattrick, tamely kicking to goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett, Montego Bay United countered and Dino Williams fired home from just inside the box in the 67th minute to level the tie at 2-2 heading back home for Sunday´s second leg at Catherine Hall in St James.

Harbour View suffered a crucial blow late on when captain Montrose Phinn picked up his second yellow card in the 90th minute and will miss the return leg on Sunday.
