Kenny Dalglish had scouted the young star at Bordeaux, and requested the chairman Jack Walker to begin discussions with the player’s club. He refused, and famously said, “Why do you want to sign Zinedine Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?”
Den badehætte får ham altså lidt til at ligne Ronaldo (fede).

Var der udfald under Chiquinho mål til 2-0?

Nej, men forsinkelser pga. overdrevet fejring - kald mig bare medløberfan haha.

Leon Continue Quest for Back-to-Back Titles After Eliminating Toluca

The reigning Mexican league champions Leon continue on their journey that to a back-to-back championships. They have secured a place in the Clausura 2014 season Final after a 0-1 (2-0 aggregate) win over Toluca. They will now face sister club Pachuca over two legs to see who will be king of Mexican soccer.

The champs managed a 1-0 win at home and traveled into Toluca looking to maintain the one goal advantage. The host needed only a 1-0 win in order to advance over Leon, but had to be wary of an away goal from the champs.

The home side Toluca needed the win and Leon knew that there lead was minimal, both teams came out looking to attack and get that win that would see them to the final. This created am enjoyable back and fourth rhythm right from the opening whistle.

Both teams came close to the each other´s goal, but it was the visitors who looked more in control. The game would go to the half time break scoreless.

The second half started in similar tone. Toluca had a legitimate claim for a penalty kick which the center referee completely missed judged in the 48th minute. Two minutes later World Cup bound Carlos "Guilit" Peña scored an amazing Golazo chipping the ball over the goalkeeper´s head.

The goal made the aggregate score 2-0 in favor of the visitors and it also gave Leon the edge on the away goals in case of an aggregate draw. This meant that Toluca now needed three goals in order to advance to the final.

Manager Jose Saturnino Cardozo sent in attacking subs like Isaac Brizuela - who is also World Cup bound - and Pablo Velazquez to try and over come the big deficit. The mountain ended up being too high for Toluca to climb and Leon advance to their second consecutive league final.

The Clausura 2014 final will now see Pachuca who is led by President Jesus Martinez go up against Leon who is led by President Jesus Martinez Jr. One of the richest men in the world - cell phone giant Carlos Slim - is a key investor in the ownership group that controls both teams.

Verón bids farewell and Estudiantes go top as Colón and Atletico fail to win making relegation even tighter

The more meaningful matches in the title race might be later today but Estudiantes have ensured that they will be in the mix on the final day after a crushing 3-0 win over San Lorenzo in La Plata. Although San Lorenzo obviously had the Copa Libertadores on their minds, it was a fitting farewell to Juan Sebastián Verón as he retires at the end of the season.

Another player calling time on his illustrious career was Gabriel Heinze, and he too did so with victory. Newell’s Old Boys swept already relegated, All Boys aside in Rosario with youngster Ezequiel Ponce netting twice.

Tigre and Atletico Rafaela failed to clear up their relegation situation with a 1-1 draw in Santa Fe. Lucas Albertengo spectacularly gave Atletico the lead only for the talented, Matías Pérez García to score the simplest of equalisers.

Colón joined Atletico for a potential relegation playoff after defeat in Liniers against Vélez Sarsfield. Two early goals by Mauro Zárate were decisive but it remains to be seen if the league’s top scorer will still be at Vélez next season.

Finally, Racing Club welcomed Rosario Central to Avellaneda and although Mostaza Merlo may have gone in midweek, it was still dreadful. Another dreary goalless draw for the locals to endure.

Copa Libertadores Preview: Defensor aim for maiden semi-final

Uruguay´s Defensor Sporting look set to qualify for their maiden Copa Libertadores semi-final, as they prepare to host Atletico Nacional.

In last week´s quarter-final first leg between Nacional and Defensor in Colombia, the Uruguayan visitors won 2-0 with late goals from Leonardo Pais and Nicolas Olivera.

The victory puts Defensor in the box seat for a spot in the Copa Libertadores´ final four - with the Montevideo-based club having never gone further than the quarter-finals in the continental competition.

But Defensor head coach Fernando Curutchet would have been disappointed by his team´s effort in the lead-up to Thursday´s second leg, as they lost 2-1 to Wanderers in the Uruguayan Primera Division on Sunday.

Olivera and Brazilian winger Felipe Gedoz will be crucial to Curutchet´s game plan, as the pair of wingers are Defensor´s leading scorers in the Copa Libertadores this season with four each.

Nacional will have to do without playmaker Edwin Cardona in Montevideo, after the 21-year-old was red-carded with four minutes remaining in the first leg but the Colombian club should be fresh, as they did not play in their domestic league over the weekend.

In the other quarter-final second leg on Thursday, Bolivar will hope to ride the momentum of last week´s stoppage-time equaliser to overcome Lanus.

Bolivar captain William Ferreira struck a stunning long-range goal in the first minute of stoppage time in Argentina to claim a 1-1 draw at Lanus in the first leg.

Both Bolivar and Lanus lost in the league over the weekend but the latter will surely travel from Argentina to Bolivia deflated after giving up a lead in the opening leg of the tie.

In the quarter-final second legs scheduled for Wednesday, Argentina´s Arsenal will host Nacional Asuncion, after the latter won the first leg 1-0 in Paraguay, while Cruzeiro will welcome San Lorenzo to Brazil.

San Lorenzo won the first leg in Argentina 1-0.

The result saw Atletico Nacional triumph 2-1 on aggregate, having lost the opening leg by a solitary goal away from home.

Atletico Nacional, who were beaten at home by Defensor Sporting in midweek Copa Libertadores action, set out to erase the deficit early.

And they did courtesy of Juan Valencia, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute.

The home side were unable to add to their tally before the half-time interval but they finally got the required second goal on the hour-mark, with Colombian striker Jefferson Duque the hero.

Joining Atletico National in the decider are Junior, who prevailed 5-4 in a penalty shootout at Millonarios after the tie finished 0-0 on aggregate.
