James Rodriguez inspires Porto rout
Manchester United linked attacking-midfielder James Rodriguez scored twice as FC Porto ran out 5-0 winners over Maritimo on Friday night, to extend their unbeaten league season to eight games.
Aided by a fellow Colombian, Jackson Martinez, 21-year-old James inspired the home side to victory at the Dragão and with his two late goals, takes his tally to five in eight appearances this season.
The former Banfield attacking-midfielder has been consistently linked with a move to Manchester United for some time, with rumours continuing to grow apace given his recent good form.
The suggestion, though, has been laughed-off by Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson who joked that the young star would “cost a fortune” given Porto’s record on selling players.
It was also a notable match for 26-year-old Martinez, who broke a Porto club record by scoring in his seventh consecutive league match – with Hulk the previous holder.
It takes the striker to an impressive tally of eight goals in eight league games, plus 3 in cup competitions, since his summer move to Portugal from Mexican side Jaguares
