Nej, det burde de ikke, fordi de har ikke præsteret stabilt over en lang periode. Det er jo en langt større præstation uanset, om du vinder VM eller ej, at komme i en finale deri end en eller anden andenrangsturnering. Så det er måske også større at vinde Carling Cuppen end at komme i en Champions League finale dog med nederlag som udfald?

Argumentet om Hollands som værende en stormagt indenfor fodbold - er baseret på eurocentrisme og intet andet.... :-)

Club World Cup champions Corinthians interested in signing Dedé from Vasco da Gama

Corinthians have identified Vasco da Gama’s highly rated central defender Dedé as the ideal player to boost their defence as they look to consolidate their position as World club champions next season.

Dedé, 24, is one of the best defenders in South America and has been linked with moves to Europe with AC Milan and Paris St-Germain in recent months, but Corinthians are hoping to take advantage of Vasco’s poor financial situation to strike a deal for the player.

“He (Dede) is just one we´re after. Other reinforcements will come...” one Corinthians official, who refused to be named, told Lancenet!

Corinthians are believed to have already sounded out the player’s agent who responded well to their advances and the plan is to purchase the full economic rights for the player, as he is a player with a sell-on value in the European market.

Despite winning the Club World Cup with two clean sheets, Corinthians are not satisfied with their defensive options after selling Leandro Castán and Marquinhos to AS Roma earlier this year.

Castelão Arena is the first of twelve stadiums in Brazil to be inaugurated ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

President Dilma Rousseff was the first person to kick a football at a ceremony held in the new arena at Fortaleza.

The Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte is the next stadium due to be opened, with preparations expected to be completed as early as next week.

These two stadiums are amongst the venues for the upcoming Confederations Cup and authorities are rushing to prepare the remaining four for the traditional curtain raiser.

Ms Rousseff told reporters at the ceremony that the success of Corinthians against Chelsea in the Club World Cup proved that Brazil could compete with the best on and off the pitch.

Brazil´s preparations have been heavily criticised in recent years but in recent weeks FIFA officials have let it known that they are optimistic that all twelve venues will be ready in time for 2014.

"No queremos vender a Centurión"

BUENOS AIRES -- El presidente de Racing, Gastón Cogorno, dijo que "No queremos vender a Ricardo Centurión".

Gastón Cogorno desestimó cualquier transferencia del juvenil mediocampista en el período de pretemporada 2013 y garantizó que el jugador "se quedará seis meses más en el club".

"Está garantizado que el jugador estará seis meses más en Racing, aunque uno tiene que ser criterioso al dar un veredicto porque están en juego muchas cosas del club, la vida del jugador y varios factores más. No estamos apresurados en ponerle una cifra porque no tenemos pensado venderlo. Escuchamos porque hay clubes interesados", indicó el presidente.

"Nosotros no le ponemos precio porque no lo queremos vender, pero si vienen con una oferta, la escucharemos. Están ofreciendo entre 7 y 9 millones de euros y estamos diciendo que no, o sea que el piso está un poco más alto que ese número. Sería la venta más importante de la historia del club", agregó en torno a las eventuales propuestas de Porto y Benfica, ambos de Portugal, por llevarse al juvenil jugador.

"No es casual que Racing haya tenido un buen semestre, sino una causalidad. Dentro de la columna vertebral del equipo entendemos que los chicos jóvenes de la cantera nos van a ayudar para hacer más grande al club", concluyó el dirigente de la entidad de Avellaneda.

Ricardo Gareca define su continuidad

BUENOS AIRES -- Ricardo Gareca define con los dirigentes de Vélez su continuidad en el club.

El DT de Vélez Sarsfield, Ricardo Gareca, campeón del último torneo, definirá en el transcurso del día si sigue en "El Fortín".

Será durante una reunión con la dirigencia en la que se descuenta que confirmará su permanencia en el cargo.

Gareca, de 54 años, lleva cuatro años al frente del plantel de Vélez y en la reunión de este lunes, de la que también participarán el presidente, Miguel Calello, y el manager, Christian Bassedas, aceptará su continuidad hasta diciembre del año próximo.

Como nuevo y máximo desafío el entrenador -tres veces campeón local en el club- tendrá la Copa Libertadores desde febrero, con la meta de mejorar las semifinales alcanzadas en 2011 (también llegó a cuartos este año).

Si bien el "Tigre" mantuvo el misterio sobre su continuidad después de la reciente consagración, la pista concreta de su respuesta la dio su ayudante de campo, José "Turu" Flores, cuando reconoció la última semana que "está todo dado para que siga en Vélez".

En la reunión de hoy, Gareca y la dirigencia acordarán una mejora del contrato y también avanzarán sobre los refuerzos del plantel para el semestre próximo.

Desde su llegada al club a principios de 2009, el DT le reportó a Vélez tres títulos: el Clausura de ese año, el mismo torneo en 2011 y el reciente Inicial.

Cuba claims first Caribbean Cup title

ST. JOHN´S, Antigua - A Marcel Hernandez goal in the 22nd minute of extra time lifted Cuba to a 1-0 victory over eight-time champion Trinidad & Tobago and its first-ever Caribbean Cup crown on Sunday at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

The 23-year-old midfielder fired a 40-yard rocket that Trinidad goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams managed to get a hand on, but couldn´t prevent from crossing the line.

Cuba earned the trophy, winning its last four games by a combined score of 5-1, following a 1-0 loss to Martinique in its opener.

In a match marked by its tactical nature, Carlyle Mitchell almost put the Soca Warriors ahead in the sixth minute with a header that hit the post off a corner kick.

The close call caught Cuba´s attention and it increased the urgency of its attack in response. Alberto Gomez, 10 minutes later, shot inches wide after the midfielder electrified the crowd with an impressive display of dribbling.

In the 40th minute, Trinidad´s Atullah Guerra was set-up beautifully by Kevon Carter for a clear shot at the top of the Cuban 18-yard box, but he failed to control the ball cleanly.

Five minutes after the break, Keyon Edwards tried to get the Soca Warriors on the scoreboard through an ambitious 20-yard attempt that caused goalkeeper Odelin Molina to produce a diving save.

The Lions of the Caribbean should have gone ahead in the 61st minute, when Williams tackled Hernandez in the box and referee Valdin Legister pointed to the penalty spot. Cuba´s joy was temporary, as Jaine Colome Valencia blazed his shot over the crossbar.

That agonizing miss, though, faded to memory in extra time, overshadowed by the euphoria of Hernandez´s game-winner with eight minutes left on the clock.

The game was a rematch of the 1999 final, which Trinidad won 2-1 at home in Port of Spain.

Cuba, Trinidad, Haiti and Martinique - the tournament´s top four finishers, respectively - will represent the Caribbean at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.


Haiti takes third place at Caribbean Cup

ST. JOHN´S, Antigua - Leonel St. Preux scored in the fifth minute of extra time and Haiti defeated Martinique 1-0 in the Caribbean Cup´s match for third place on Sunday at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

In an all-French affair, Martinique started in its familiar attacking style, making every attempt to strike for an early goal against Haiti goalkeeper Frandy Motrevil. Kevin Parsemain was his usual dangerous self, menacing the Haitian defense in combination with Fabrice Reuperne and Steeve Gustan.

Haiti, though, had the best chance in the first half, when Olrish Saurel´s free kick was pushed over the crossbar by Loic Chauvet.

Following the break, Haiti immediately went on the offensive and could have taken a 50th minute advantage, but an unmarked Fritznel Lois shot wide from inside the 18-yard box with only Chauvet to beat.

Afterwards, Jean-Philippe Peguero had two opportunities - just minutes apart -- to give the 2007 Caribbean champion a lead. He saw Chauvet save an attempt from close range and then had another effort rattle the Martinique crossbar.

A Daniel Herelle free kick just before the end of regulation almost gave Martinique the win, however, a diving Motrevil did well to keep the ball out of his net.

Haiti finally cracked Martinique´s armor in extra time with St. Preux flicking home an exquisitely delivered 40-yard pass from Wiselet Saint Lois.

Trinidad & Tobago will meet Cuba in the championship later in the day.

Carlos Bianchi ya es el DT de Boca

BUENOS AIRES -- Carlos Bianchi se convirtió hoy en el nuevo entrenador de Boca Juniors, anunció el presidente de la institución, Daniel Angelici.

Bianchi, quien iniciará su tercer ciclo en el club, firmará un contrato por tres temporadas.

"Socios e hinchas, Carlos Bianchi aceptó la propuesta del club y otra vez será el técnico de Boca", escribió Angelici en el twitter oficial del club.

Racing: echaron a Juan Barbas

BUENOS AIRES -- Juan Barbas, un histórico de Racing, fue echado como entrenador de la reserva luego de salir subcampeón, y su lugar será ocupado por Fabio Radaelli, coordinador de inferiores desde setiembre último.

"Me acaban de comunicar que prescindían de mi continuidad en Racing y que no me iban a tener más en cuenta", sostuvo Barbas respecto de una reunión de la que participaron Radaelli y el coordinador deportivo Roberto Ayala, y también un dirigente" que no puntualizó.

Barbas fue uno de responsables de haber llevado a primera a Luciano Vietto, Valentín Viola, Ricardo Centurión, entre otros futbolistas.

"Es como si te echaran de tu casa", lamentó por radio La Red y se mostró preocupado por su futuro y su familia porque "es un momento difícil para encontrar trabajo".

Barbas resaltó la calidad de persona del entrenador de primera división, Luis Zubeldía, a quien definió como "un tipo extraordinario" con quien tuvo una relación "de maravillas".
