Pizzi arrancará hoy la pretemporada sin refuerzos. No tendrá, como les había explicitado a los dirigentes de San Lorenzo, a la o las caras nuevas desde el primer día de trabajo del 2013. Sin embargo, lejos estará de, siquiera, esbozar una mueca de fastidio. ¡¿Cómo va a quejarse teniendo muchas chances de dirigir a Juan Manuel Martínez?! Porque, sí, en Boedo están a la CASLA de un Burrito. Y mañana mismo podría conseguir a una de las presas más preciadas de este desnutrido mercado de pases...

Marcelo Tinelli fue quien inició, hace unos días, el sondeo del ex delantero de Vélez a través de su padre y representante. Rompió el hielo, y ahora rompió la billetera con el Corinthians: en conjunto con el mismo grupo inversor que acercó a Denis Stracqualursi, el Ciclón hizo una oferta de 2.500.000 dólares por el 75% de la ficha del Burrito, cuyo 25% restante es propiedad del punta. Y si bien los dirigentes del Timao pretenden 3.000.000 limpios, escucharon con cariño el número acercado desde Boedo, ya que no abundan los ofrecimientos concretos por Martínez.

Así pues, desde Brasil quedaron en tirar una onda entre hoy y mañana. Y según averiguó Olé , apenas llegue la contraoferta, o la intención de negociar, un importante dirigente de San Lorenzo volará enseguida a San Pablo para afinar el lápiz y tratar de volverse con el delantero como regalito de Reyes. Mientras tanto, sin perder tiempo, la cúpula del Ciclón se prepara para ese cara a cara y continúa puliendo la ingeniería económica para conseguir repatriar al atacante, quien, por cierto, ya le manifestó a su círculo íntimo las ganas de que la operación sea exitosa, ya que no ve la hora de dejar Corinthians, donde no tiene continuidad, y donde menos tendrá debido a la inminente llegada de Alexandre Pato...

Sin embargo, el arribo del Burrito a San Lorenzo no depende sólo de que entre Boedo y el grupo inversor logren encontrar un punto medio entre el cash que ofrecen y las pretensiones del club brasileño. Es que durante la tarde de ayer, al Ciclón le salió un competidor: Boca. Boca, en realidad, ya había pispeado al Burrito a pedido de Bianchi, pero Angelicci le avisó al DT que no piensa hacer “locuras” con las arcas de su club, recientemente sacudidas con la llegada del técnico estrella. Pero Adrián Ruocco, representante de Tevez y hombre de muy buenos contactos en el Timao, cree que puede abrochar al punta en condición de préstamo por un año. Y lo cree, sobre todo, porque está convencido de que, llegado el momento, Corinthians va a desechar la oferta de San Lorenzo. Y con Independiente sin billetera a tono para competir...

Lo que le juega a favor al Ciclón es que tanto el Timao como la familia Martínez pretenden independizarse uno del otro, por lo que una venta sería la mejor opción. De hecho, desde el entorno del jugador le aseguraron a Olé no estar al tanto de la oferta del CASLA, pero que no le pondrán trabas al club que consiga sacar al Burrito del Corinthians. Incluso, escucharían ofertas para ceder el 25% del pase que le pertenece al futbolista. ¿Alguna preferencia por los interesados en vestir a Juan Manuel? “Boca, Independiente y San Lorenzo son equipos muy importantes, todos tienen lo suyo. Cada uno seduce por algo distinto”, contaron desde el círculo íntimo del delantero, quien, por lo pronto, de no cerrarse nada antes, deberá retomar los entrenamientos en el club brasileño el próximo lunes.

Así las cosas, y mientras también espera por el desenlace de la novela Coloccini (antes del lunes habría novedades desde Inglaterra), con bastante buen semblante arrancará hoy Juan Antonio Pizzi su primera pretemporada en San Lorenzo, confiando en que pueda ser un Ciclón también en este mercado de pases, abrochando a esas dos incorporaciones “de jerarquía” (o al menos una), tal como había solicitado expresamente antes de tomarse vacaciones.

Juan Román Riquelme define el viernes si regresa a Boca Juniors

Buenos Aires. Juan Román Riquelme se reunirá mañana viernes con el presidente del Boca Juniors, Daniel Angelici, para definir su regreso al club con el que tiene contrato hasta el 30 de junio del 2014, en tanto que la institución descartó hoy la vuelta de Fernando Gago y admite interés en el central paraguayo Paulo Da Silva.

El regreso de Gago, del Valencia español, quedó descartado porque la negociación está “muy lejos en lo económico” y resulta “imposible”, admitió este jueves su representante, Marcelo Lombilla.

Para reemplazar el vacío dejado por el defensor central Rolando Schiai, los directivos del club argentino han encaminado sus negociaciones hacia el paraguayo del Pachuca mexicano Paulo Da Silva por pedido del entrenador Carlos Bianchi.

La vuelta de Riquelme, que anunció su retirada tras perder con Boca la final de la Copa Libertadores ante el Corinthians, el 4 de julio pasado, comenzó a gestarse el 27 de diciembre durante una reunión entre Angelici, el jugador y Bianchi.

Se conjetura que Riquelme aceptará la vuelta porque el entrenador del equipo vuelve a ser Carlos Bianchi, quien elevó al máximo su nivel futbolístico desde 1998.

Con Bianchi en el banco, Riquelme fue protagonista de seis títulos de Boca: los campeonatos locales de 1998, 1999 y 2000; dos ediciones de la Copa Libertadores, las de 2000 y 2001; así como la Copa Intercontinental del 2000.

Otro indicio que puede marcar la respuesta positiva del futbolista es la cancelación de la reserva que tenía en la costa atlántica bonaerense de Cariló, donde planeaba pasar las vacaciones junto con su familia.

Entre las pistas negativas, sobresale la antipatía de Riquelme con Angelici, quien después de exponerlo varias veces como único responsable de su salida de Boca, ha manifestado públicamente su desacuerdo con una extensión del contrato con el jugador hasta fines del 2015.

Los directivos esperan que Riquelme se sume el sábado al plantel, que comenzará la pretemporada con miras al torneo Final 2013 local, la Copa Libertadores y la Copa Argentina

Selección peruana Sub-20: Esta es la lista oficial para el Sudamericano

El DT Daniel Ahmed lanzó este jueves la lista definitiva de 22 jugadores que representarán al Perú en el Sudamericano Sub-20 de Argentina.

Lima. La selección peruana de fútbol Sub-20 ya conoce a sus 22 representantes en el Sudamericano Sub-20 que se jugará en Argentina. No hubo mayores sorpresas, aunque sí se esperaba la inclusión de Edison Chávez de Sporting Cristal.

Perú integra el grupo B, junto a Brasil, Uruguay, Ecuador y Venezuela. Los partidos se jugarán en la ciudad de San Juan. El grupo A, que integran Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Colombia y Bolivia, lo harán en Mendoza.

San Lorenzo: se complican refuerzos

BUENOS AIRES -- El defensor Fabricio Coloccini tiene "complicada" su salida de Newcastle de Inglaterra, según admitió su padre, Osvaldo, y el delantero Juan Manuel Martínez, por quien se realizó una oferta formal al Corinthians, será tentado por Boca Juniors a través de una propuesta oficial al club brasileño.

Cuando ambos futbolistas parecían con camino allanado para sumarse al plantel de Juan Antonio Pizzi, Osvaldo Coloccini explicó que a su hijo será "difícil que lo dejen salir" de Inglaterra porque en Newcastle "es capitán, ídolo y referente".

De todas formas, el coordinador del fútbol juvenil de San Lorenzo aseguró que "siempre hay una luz de esperanza" para la vuelta del defensor, campeón con el club del Clausura 2001.

Coloccini, de 31 años, con once temporadas y media en Europa, "se muere de ganas" por regresar a San Lorenzo, club del que es hincha y en el que tuvo un paso de solo seis meses, coincidentes con la consagración del equipo entonces dirigido por el chileno Manuel Pellegrini.

Consultado por las razones para mantener el optimismo sobre la negociación, Osvaldo (ex defensor de San Lorenzo) explicó que el contrato de su hijo en Inglaterra "es muy alto", por lo que -especuló- "quizás les convenga dejarlo ir para ahorrarse plata".

En relación al Burrito Martínez, San Lorenzo aguarda la contestación del Corinthians a su propuesta formal de compra, que podría entorpecerse por la aparición de Boca.

El club de Boedo ofreció 2,5 millones por el 75% del pase pero Boca, según transcendió, tendría decidido pagar 3 millones por la misma porción.

Santos abandon Robinho talks

Santos are reportedly pulling out of negotiations to sign AC Milan striker Robinho after the club confirmed the capture of Cruzeiro´s Walter Montillo last night.

The €6m deal to take Montillo to Santos was confirmed by the club yesterday evening and there are doubts about their ability to complete both deals.

However, this does not mean that Robinho will stay at AC Milan with Flamengo and Fluminese also known to be interested in the former Seleção star.

Despite the interest, a known stumbling block could be the Brazilian clubs´ ability to fund such a move as Milan are believed to want around €12million for the former Manchester City forward.

Another potential problem could be Robinho’s wage demands as the forward reportedly wants €5million a season and it is unclear whether anybody can match that request.


Ex-Flamengo striker Adriano: 2013 will be a success

Troubled striker Adriano has pledged to make a comeback to the pitch in 2013 after three months out of the game.

Adriano was released by Flamengo in November after missing a series of physiotherapy sessions as well as repeated nightclub excursions.

But the striker has reportedly revealed that he has been invited by a number of clubs to train with them although he neglected to disclose their identitles.

“I deeply appreciate my fans who continue to support me. They know I am training hard and am determined to make a return. I hope that 2013 will be a successful year,” he said.

Adriano rejoined his old club Flamengo in a bid to return to full fitness but only lasted 76 days and failed to make a single first team appearance before being released.

The striker´s career is coming to an ignominious end after a glittering career at Parma and Inter where he was once one of the most feared strikers in the world.

Erviti: "Tenemos que ganar todo"

BUENOS AIRES -- El mediocampista de Boca Juniors Walter Erviti advirtió el jueves que su equipo tiene la obligación de "ganar todo" este semestre, en relación a la doble competencia entre el próximo Torneo Inicial y la Copa Libertadores.

"Tenemos que ganar todo, porque la historia y el hincha de Boca así lo demandan. Además, es lo que los jugadores queremos", resaltó el ex Banfield en declaraciones televisivas. En ese sentido, manifestó que los desafíos se los deben tomar "de acuerdo a la trascendencia" que tienen.

Por otro lado, Erviti consideró que Boca estará "entre los mejores", ya que "los chicos que han jugado el último año ya tienen la experiencia como para afrontar cualquier partido y eso le dará un plus al grupo".

Además se refirió al posible regreso del estratega Juan Román Riquelme al club de La Ribera, considerando que "sabe que tiene su lugar y su camiseta".

"Tenerlo a Román dentro de la cancha es un placer, porque le hace muy bien al equipo. Estuve en la reunión que dio luego de la final de la Libertadores (ante Santos) y sus palabras fueron muy claras: confirmó que no iba a seguir en Boca", concluyó.

Mexico 2013: Plenty to Play for in the New Year

After a successful 2012, Mexico now prepares to confront a busy 2013. The new year includes CONCACAF qualifiers, the FIFA Confederations Cup, and the Gold Cup. Over the coming months Chepo de la Torre hopes to solidify his starting eleven, with one eye squarely on World Cup 2014.

Mexico football finished 2012 with Javier “Chicharito” Hernández’s face splashed across England’s top newspapers, and 2013 now begins with the same pattern. Sir Alex Ferguson’s strategy and experience has allowed Mexico football to begin the new year with a bang. The newspapers in Spain, Italy, Germany, and England are talking about Chicharito and Manchester United’s excellent capacity to overcome adversity and score key goals. Ferguson famously asked Chicharito to miss London’s Olympics last summer, and the result of that favor is now manifesting itself on the field.

Hernández’s attitude and desire are contagious. Giovani dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Andrés Guardado, and Héctor Moreno will begin an intrepid second half of La Liga BBVA season. Giovani and Moreno will battle it out to stay in the First Division, while Vela and Guardado will fight it out to finish on top of the table and win a ticket to a European tournament: Europa League or Champions League.

There is also a conundrum. How tarnished or renovated is José Manuel de la Torre’s coach-player relationship with Carlos Vela? Was there ever a clash between the two that now prevents Cancun’s prodigious son from getting a shot with Chepo’s successful TRI?

Carlos Vela is becoming one of Real Sociedad’s major protagonists. The team from San Sebastian is Carlos Vela’s home. While Chicharito is a predator inside the box and wins English love, Vela dances his way into the box, then proceeds to finish off his opponent with a shot on goal and wins Spanish admiration.

Francisco Javier “Maza” Rodríguez returns to Mexico to play for Club America. After solidifying into a well-rounded defender in PSV Eindhoven and VfB Stuttgart, the mazatleco accepted America’s offer because it assured him consistent playing time. He left Mexico as a Chivas player and returns to help America win a coveted title.

The city of Monterrey has Chepo’s most trusted holding midfielders in Carlos Salcido and Jesús Zavala, along with Jorge Torres Nilo, a top left back, and Severo Meza, a top right back. Both Rayados and Tigres hope to end the season in the final stages of La Liguilla.

That leaves José de Jesús de Corona and Guillermo Ochoa’s names on the table. While Ochoa finishes each Ligue 1 weekend amongst the top three goalkeepers in the league, Corona keeps proving he is the best goalkeeper in Liga MX. Corona’s resume also includes being captain of the Mexico team that won a gold medal in London 2012.

Chepo de La Torre has a backbone that will only strengthen when the names of Marco Fabian, Diego Reyes, Hiram Mier, Javier Aquino, Jorge Enríquez, Carlos Peña, Héctor Herrera, Raúl Jímenez and Miguel Ángel Ponce are added to the mix. Mexico’s greatest football moment takes place as Chivas lives moments of uncertainty.

Arias, Barbosa rejoin Herediano

HEREDIA - Herediano announced Wednesday that Yosimar Arias and Jorge Barbosa have returned to the Costa Rican side following short stints with clubs in Guatemala.

According to the 22-time Costa Rican champion, both players have signed two-year contracts and will be ready for the upcoming Torneo Verano season.

Arias, a 26-year-old midfielder, played with Guatemala´s Municipal from July to December of last year. He is one of only two players to have scored for three different clubs in the CONCACAF Champions League (Santos´ Edgar Gerardo Lugo is the other), accomplishing the feat with Brujas (2010/11), Herediano (2011/12) and Municipal (2012/13).

Barbosa, a Brazilian, rejoins Herediano from Antigua GFC. The 33-year-old forward scored six goals in seven 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League games for Herediano, including a hat-trick against Guyana´s Alpha United.

Herediano, the only Central American side to progress past the Group Stage of this season´s CONCACAF Champions League, will meet the LA Galaxy on March 7 and 13.

Solis named Herediano head coach

HEREDIA, Costa Rica -- CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinalist Herediano announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with Mauricio Solis to become its next head coach.

The 40-year-old is the Costa Rican side´s third manager in six months. He replaces Claudio Jara, who took the reigns in August following the resignation of Jacques Odir.

Jara, played 46 times for Costa Rica from 1983 to 1994 after making his professional debut for Herediano in 1982. Last month, he guided Herediano to the finals of the Costa Rican Torneo Invierno, where the club fell to Alajuelense 3-2 on aggregate.

Solis, who won 110 caps for Costa Rica, enjoyed a lengthy career that began in 1990 with Herediano. After stops with clubs such as Derby County (England), San Jose Earthquakes (USA), OFI Crete (Greece), Irapuato (Mexico) and Comunicaciones (Guatemala), he retired in 2010 as a member of his original team.

The new coaching staff, which is comprised by Briance Camacho (assistant), Vinicio Montero (assistant), Milton Rivas (trainer) and Oscar Mora (goalkeeping coach), will begin its work on Wednesday, January 9.

Herediano´s first game in the 2013 Torneo Verano is scheduled for January 13 against Santos de Guápiles. It will also meet the LA Galaxy in the Champions League quarterfinals on March 7 and 13.

The Liga MX year in review

The year 2012 will always be remembered in Mexican soccer as the one El Tri shed the shackles of underachievement and threw down the gauntlet to the footballing world by winning the Olympic gold medal.

But domestically too it has been a year of change, with the establishment of the Liga MX, the return of the Copa MX, Chivas’ ongoing saga, Carlos Slim´s arrival in Mexican soccer and much more.

In this review, we look at the top six themes of 2012 in Mexico’s domestic game:

Primera Division to the Liga MX

Billed as Mexico’s big Premier League moment, the details that finally came out regarding the restructuring of Mexican soccer were disappointing, to say the least.

The separation of the Mexican soccer federation (FMF) from the clubs was the main story, but an important opportunity to cleanse the game of some of its ills was missed in favor of clubs garnering a few extra pesos.

Lingering problems like the Gentlemen’s Pact, multi-ownership of teams and an antiquated relegation system continue.

The Copa MX

Alfredo el "Loco" Frausto’s name will forever be etched on the Apertura Copa MX, after the goalkeeper scored the equalizing goal and then the winning penalty for Dorados de Sinaloa in a sensational final against Correcaminos.

In general, the return of the cup has been positive for the Mexican game and has offered second division teams and youngsters the chance to shine.

However, poor attendances at first division stadia have hampered the competition, which relies on the big teams taking it in full seriousness.

The dominance of the northerners

The year 2012 saw another two teams from the north of Mexico crowned champion of the first division, with Santos Laguna winning the Clausura championship and Club Tijuana the Apertura.

Monterrey added to the northern teams´ trophy haul by winning the CONCACAF Champions League for the second straight year.

Looking ahead, the trend shows little sign of changing. Tigres have strengthened with new signings, as have Santos Laguna, while Monterrey continue to be strong. Expectations at Club Tijuana have also risen considerably.

The upstarts

Another theme this year has been the rise of the two most recently promoted clubs, Leon and Tijuana. The two met in the semifinal last season and have been a breath of fresh air to the league.

Both are located in one-club towns with a dedicated and enthusiastic fanbase and sell out their stadiums with regularity.

As previously noted in this column, the contrast with certain other Liga MX clubs (Queretaro, San Luis, Puebla, Atlas) is huge and begs the question of whether opening up the promotion and relegation system would produce a better quality league.

Turmoil at Chivas

The comings and goings, ups and downs, declarations, retractions and about-turns that have turned Mexico’s most storied club Chivas into its own telenovela this year has been one of the highlight/lowlights (delete as appropriate) of 2012.

The signing of Johan Cruyff as advisor offered hope for Chivas fans, but poor results under Dutch coach John Van’t Schip led to the sacking of the former earlier this month.

There has also been an change in policy on signing veteran players, a slight opening to foreign internationals (which was firmly closed the next day), as well as the ongoing saga over the magnificent Estadio Omnilife that is regularly, as Twitterers would put it, #ForeverAlone.

In comes Carlos …

Forget the Arab oil merchants and Russian oligarchs. The richest person to enter the world of soccer this year was Carlos Slim, the globe’s wealthiest person.

Slim purchased a 30 percent stake in Group Pachuca, which owns first division clubs Leon and Pachuca and then completed the purchase of second division outfit Estudiantes Tecos earlier this month.

The repercussions have not been fully felt, aside from Leon games being shown on Fox, thus breaking the duopoly TV Azteca and Televisa had on showing games in Mexico.

One suspects that a man of his ilk has some big plans for 2013 and beyond.
