Lionel Messi trails in third in Argentina sports awards


Barcelona goal machine Lionel Messi has come third behind a boxer and taekwondo fighter in a poll to find Argentina´s best sports star of 2012.

Messi has scored a record 90 goals in 2012, including 12 for Argentina.

However, Argentine journalists awarded the title to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, ahead of Sebastian Crismanich, who won the nation´s solitary Olympic gold at London 2012.

Messi was voted the best Argentine footballer playing outside Argentina.

Martinez won the title after defeating Mexico´s Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on points in September to win the world middleweight crown.

The 37-year-old will defend his title against Britain´s Martin Murray, 30, in Buenos Aires on 27 April.

Neymar misses out on 2012 FIFA Puskás award

Santos star Neymar has missed out on the 2012 FIFA Puskás award for the best goal of the year to Fenerbahçe winger Miroslav Stoch.

The 20-year-old won the accolade last year for an incredible solo effort against Flamengo and made the final three nominees again this year.

However, the Brazilian’s goal against Internacional in March, which saw him evade a string of challenges as he ran the length of the pitch to finish neatly, only managed to earn him third place.

Fenerbahçe´s Miroslav Stoch picked up this year’s award for his superb hooked volley against Genclerbirligi in March.

The Slovakia international saw off competition from Atlético Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who claimed second place with his stunning bicycle kick against América de Cali.

The three goals received the most votes during the first phase of voting before going head-to-head for the final prize, which was awarded at Monday’s FIFA Ballon d´Or gala, where Lionel Messi was crowned player of the year.


PSG forward Nenê likely to return to Santos - Report


Paris Saint-Germain forward Nenê is likely to return to his former club Santos, according to report’s in Brazil.

Nenê, 31, has just six months left on his contract and is free to leave PSG this January after making it clear that he wants to return to Brazil.

The French giants are also keen to move the player on after he feel out with coach Carlo Ancelotti after the Italian criticised his attitude when being put on as a substitute in the recent home Uefa Champions League tie against FC Porto.

His agent, Gilvan Costa, spoke briefly with Lancenet! on Monday and revealed that Nenê is close to returning to the Vila Belmiro.

“He is likely to return to Santos. The decision comes out tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said via a quick telephone call.

Nenê has been linked with a number of clubs back in his homeland but is said to prefer Santos as he would love to play alongside young superstar Neymar and also thinks they represent the best chance for him to showcase his skills and earn a call up to the Brazil national team.


Corinthians and Valenciennes agree a fee for defender Gil - Report


Corinthians and Valenciennes have finally ironed out their differences and agreed a fee of €3.5 million that will take the defender back to Brazil.

Lancenet! are reporting that Gil, 25, who previously played for Americano, Atlético Goianiense and Cruzeiro before moving to France in 2011, is expected to fly to São Paulo from Rio de Janeiro, where he is on holiday with family, later this week to sign the contract with the Fifa Club World Cup winners.

The central defender has been on Corinthians radar since this time last year and it is only now, after much insistence from the player and his wife, that the French club have allowed him to move to the Timão, where he is expected to sign a contract until 2017.

Corinthians are in the process of rebuilding there defence as soon after the Copa Libertadores success last year they sold Leandro Castán and Marquinhos to Italian giants AS Roma.

As well as completing the signing of Gil, the Corinthians board have also not given up hope of convincing Vasco da Gama to part with their highly rated defender Dedé.

Dedé admits there is a chance he could leave Vasco da Gama


Vasco da Gama defender Dedé has admitted that he could leave the club in the near future but reassures supporters that he will give his best while still at the São Januário.

Dedé, 24, has been heavily linked with a move to Fifa Club World Cup winners Corinthians in the past couple of weeks, but the star, who has a contract until 2015 with Vasco, remains committed to his current employers.

“I´ll work focused on Vasco, giving the maximum in each workout and not think about the proposals that can happen inside or outside Brazil,” he told Globo Esporte.

“If I see something good for myself and for Vasco, then let´s talk. If I stay here, I´ll do my best.”

While the Vasco board are keen to keep the player at the club, they know that he is their most valuable asset and a sale would help ease the financial troubles they currently face.

“I´ve heard speculation about Corinthians that grew. Nobody talked to me, but I saw it on the internet. Other offers I did not know.”

Regardless of transfer speculation, Dedé’s main priority is getting fit after suffering a broken leg towards the end of last season.

“I still have some difficulty in the leg because I was out for a long time. It´s a matter of trust. It will depend on my performance in training, but if I had a game closer I think could participate, yes.”

Ney Franco hopes São Paulo can secure deals for Eduardo Vargas and Wallyson


São Paulo coach Ney is hopeful the club can secure deals for Napoli’s Eduardo Vargas and Cruzeiro’s Wallyson after losing new signing Negueba to a knee injury.

Vargas, 23, is wanted by a host of clubs in Europe and Brazil and is currently weighing up which is the best offer, while Wallyson, 24, is expected to complete his move from Cruzeiro on Tuesday after both the club and the player agreed terms.

“My request is to work with two players in each position,” Franco told Globo Esporte.

“We had an unexpected injury with Negueba and it is now in the hands of Adalberto (Batista, director of football). The board is working on hiring these two but we cannot be limited to that. We have to have a strong team to start the season.

“There are some signings that are easier and some more difficult. We´re talking about players who have competition in the market.

Without Negueba, Ney Franco has just Luis Fabiano, Osvaldo and Aloisio as options in attack, as young striker Ademilson is unavailable after being called up by Brazil for the South American Under-20 championship.

Violencia: Mauro Martín, detenido

BUENOS AIRES -- El actual jefe de la barra brava de Boca, Mauro Martín, fue detenido hoy en esta capital por un caso de homicidio en una pelea, informaron fuentes policiales.

Martín fue arrestado en la zona de los Tribunales de esta capital y llevado a la sede de Homicidios de la Policía Federal, tras lo cual sería trasladado a la Superintendencia de Investigaciones Federales, en Madariaga y General Paz de esta capital, a la espera de ser indagado por la Justicia.

Los voceros indicaron que Martín fue arrestado por un crimen de fines de 2011, perpetrado en medio de un enfrentamiento entre un grupo de personas en el barrio porteño de Mataderos, por lo que en principio se investiga un posible "homicidio en riña".

La pesquisa busca establecer si el hecho se produjo en el marco de una interna de la barra brava o fue resultado de otra disputa.

Las fuentes recordaron que en ese episodio "no se habrían usado armas, sino que habría sido un enfrentamiento a golpes".

También trascendió que habría sido detenido un pariente del mandamás de la barra boquense.

Chelsea given Wednesday deadline for £11 million Taison - reports

European champions Chelsea have been told to raise their bid for Metalist Kharkiv forward Taison to £11 million, report the Guardian.

Taison, 24, has been a known target for Chelsea since confirming talks on a visit to Stamford Bridge in December. Negotiations are currently ongoing.

Interestingly, the article reports that Taison has been advised that he will be able to secure a work permit in the United Kingdom—despite never having represented his country.

A similar report is also carried in the Daily Mail, who state that Chelsea have been handed a deadline of Wednesday by Metalist to complete their move for the former Internacional striker. The Ukrainian club are reportedly disappointed with Chelsea ´dragging their heels´ in negotiations.

Both papers are united in their reports that the forward will obtain a work permit upon completion of a transfer, possibly using his exploits in the Europa League as a demonstration of his ´exceptional talent´

BUENOS AIRES -- El delantero Gastón Fernández renovó su vínculo con Estudiantes de La Plata por los próximos cuatro años.

Si bien el futbolista barajó la posibilidad de sumarse a Lanús, finalmente arregló con la entidad "pincharrata", aparentemente por un pedido de Juan Sebastián Verón. La decisión sorprendió por la suspensión que debe purgar el jugador debido a la sanción que recibió del TAS y la pena económica que el mismo tribunal le aplicó al club platense.

Fernández tendría que estar parado por cuatro meses, pero Estudiantes intentará que le rebajen la sanción a la mitad.

Por otra parte, el plantel que dirige Diego Cagna comenzó hoy la pretemporada, que se realizará íntegramente en el country de City Bell. BUENOS AIRES -- San Lorenzo estaría interesado en contratar al defensor rosarino Mauro Cetto, quien en estos momentos se encuentra jugando en el Palermo de Italia.

"De San Lorenzo hablaron con mi Representante, se que hay un interés por parte del club", dijo Cetto.

La primera opción de San Lorenzo es el actual jugador del Newcastle de Inglaterra Fabricio Coloccini, pero el propio padre del defensor reconoció hace algunos días que las negociaciones se habían complicado.

"Ultimamente estoy jugando poco, y cuando no te toca jugar se incrementan las ganas de volver", agregó Cetto en declaraciones realizadas a radio La Red.

El defensor puntualizó que "mi representante sabe que las posibilidades de quedarme en Europa son cada vez más chicas".

Ja det er ret tankevækkende, på grund af Argentina er af de mest fodboldgale lande i verden. Det kan også have lidt at gøre med at Messi ikke helt har den samme tilknytning til argentinsk fodbold, som tidligere stjerner har haft. Messi rejste jo til Barcelona i en meget ung alder og har ikke spillet professionel fodbold i en argentinsk klub. Og så er der jo også det i det, at Messi ikke har fået det helt store gennembrud på landsholdet. Hvis Messi fører Argentina til VM-Guld i Brasilien, så kan du være helt sikker på at Messi bliver nr. 1 i afstemningen.
