Liverpool see £8 million Coutinho bid rejected - reports


Having encountered difficulties in their pursuit of Blackpool winger Thomas Ince, it appears Liverpool have turned to Inter Milan´s Brazilian forward Philippe Coutinho as a possible alternative—with an £8 million bid reportedly having been rejected.

Coutinho, 20, arrived at Inter in 2010 after a €4 million transfer from Vasco da Gama, but has struggled to find a consistent place in the Nerazzurri team.

He did, though, impress at the end of the 2011-12 season during a loan spell with Espanyol in Spain and has grown frustrated with his lack of opportunity at the San Siro.

Having made his Brazil debut in a 2010 friendly against Iran, he has also dropped out of national team contention due to a lack of playing time at club level. With Brazil fast approaching major competitions, that has no doubt influenced the young stars desire for a January exit.

This season, Coutinho has made just three Serie A starts for his club—also appearing from the subs bench on seven occasions.

He has largely been limited to a role in the club´s Europa League side, where he has appeared nine times this campaign, scoring twice.

LA PLATA -- El defensor chileno Roberto Cereceda está muy cerca de convertirse en nuevo jugador de Estudiantes de La Plata para afrontar el Torneo Final 2013.

Cereceda, jugador de 28 años de la Universidad de Chile, tendría la decisión de dejar el país trasandino para jugar por primera vez en su carrera en el exterior.

De concretarse esta operación, el chileno será el segundo refuerzo de Estudiantes, que anteriormente había fichado al juvenil volante Alessio Innocenti, quien arribó del Milan italiano, luego de ser seleccionado por el manager Juan Sebastián Verón.

Vasco da Gama loan Peru international Yoshimar Yotún

Peruvian club Sporting Cristal have confirmed that left wing-back Yoshimar Yotún (pictured, right) will join Vasco da Gama on a one-year loan contract, with an option to buy.

A statement released by the club read: “Sporting Cristal have ceded Yoshimar Yotún on loan to Vasco da Gama of Brazil. The agreement is for one year.

The exact details regarding the option to buy agreement were not released. However, it was confirmed that the fee would be a new club record, outstripping past receipts for the likes of Jefferson Farfan (pictured, left) and Claudio Pizarro.

Regarding the impending move, Yotún spoke of his delight at moving to “the best league in South America”.

“I will try to adapt as quickly as possible,” he added. “It will be difficult, but I have the ability to do so. I hope that everything turns out well and they allow me to stay much longer in Brazil. After that, why not make a move to Europe.”

Yotún, 22, is regarded as one of the best young talents in Peru and has the ability to play anywhere on the left-flank, but is likely to play as a wing-back in Brazil.

Fluminense announce signing of Lyon left-back Fabián Monzón

Fluminense have finally announced signing of Lyon left-back Fabián Monzón on a six month loan after weeks of negotiations.

Monzón, 25, only signed for the French giants in July last year from Nice but failed to make an impact at the Stade de Gerland and decided to head back to South America to get first team football.

“With the arrival of reinforcements, they serve the requests from Abel [Braga, Fluminense coach] and I think we achieved our goal which is to have at least two good players in every position in the squad. Fluminense is prepared for the 2013 season,” director Rodrigo Caetano told the official Fluminense website.

The Argentine, who has played seven times for his country, started his career at Boca Juniors and spent a season on loan at Real Betis in Spain before moving to Nice in France in 2011, where he caught the eye of Lyon scouts after scoring 10 goals from left-back.

New Internacional coach Dunga hoping to see progress in Saturday’s friendly against local amateurs


Internacional coach Dunga is hoping to see evidence of his training methods working when his team take on a local amateur side in a friendly on Saturday morning.

Dunga, 49, has gradually been increasing the workload of his players over the past few weeks and is hoping to see signs of progress against Flamengo de São Valentim in Gramado.

“I think that regardless of the outcome, of course we have to win all the time, but some things we have to train and work out,” he told reporters.

“Even if the execution is not perfect, at least we have to try to do what was planned and trained. We expect that to happen.”

The Gauchão state championship gets underway on Saturday evening, with International facing Passo Fundo, but the Colorado will use their B squad for this game as they spend another week of training.

“We started the training on schedule with the physical and technical work. At the beginning we did some ball work, but with no speed, and in the afternoon complimented this with the physical part.

“We are beginning, and gradually lengthening the time on the field. Yesterday (Thursday) we did the first collective session. Of course we want a midfield that is strong and with speed.

“Yesterday, in the first 20 minutes, we let the players free, much nonstop activity. Then we started talking and positioning. It takes a while,” the former Brazil national coach added.
