Neymar: Copinha hero Neilton can be a star

His four goals in the final two rounds of the Copa São Paulo helped Santos to victory, but Neilton´s Friday was made even better as he earned the praise of his idol, Neymar.

Neilton, 18, scored a semi-final hat-trick (below) to down Palmeiras, before adding a goal and an assist in the final as Santos won the prestigious youth tournament for just the second time in their history.

Watching on from the sidelines, Santos´ idol Neymar could not help but be impressed by the performance of Neilton—who has modelled his image on his elder.

"Neilton is a great kid. He has everything to be a big star in football," Neymar told Globo Esporte. "I´m happy because he´s a good guy and a brilliant player. He has a lot of talent. I hope he can continue to play beautiful football like this."

Neilton had started the tournament among Santos´ substitutes but was handed his chance in the starting lineup after a series of good showings off the bench.

Eventually, he was handed his chance as a starter in the semi-final and his coach´s faith paid dividends as he netted a superb hat-trick, before adding a goal and an assist in the final.

When told of his idol´s comments, Neilton admitted he was just glad to shake off his reputation of being just another Neymar wannabe.

"I´m glad you are now seeing me from a different perspective," he told reporters. "But, Neymar has no comparison.

"He is the inspiration for all the youth players, not just at Santos, but in the whole of Brazil. Anyone who has followed his career knows how he is."

Coach Claudinei Oliveira believes that Neilton will succeed in reaching the top, but warned that he must consistently produce if he is to do so.

He said: "Neymar is unmatched today. Neilton must seek his own space and consistency, just as Neymar has. Always making goals, always giving assists. It is no use to play two or three games then stop producing. But, he has a good head and he´s disciplined."

Liverpool close in on Coutinho - reports

Liverpool are set to seal the signing of Inter´s Brazilian starlet Phillipe Coutinho over the weekend according to reports in Italy.

The Reds had two bids rejected by Inter and it looks as though the third will be accepted by the Serie A outfit.

Southampton were interested in the player and matched Inter´s asking price of £10.2m but the former Vasco star turned down a move to the south coast.

There are contradictory reports however over the valuation of the final bid from Liverpool, as the English press are reporting an offer of £8m, whilst Italian media are claiming £10.2m.

Inter are desperate to push through the deal so they can then move onto one of their own targets, Seleção midfielder Paulinho.

The Corinthians midfielder is valued at €18m and the Nerazzurri are looking to strengthen a thread bare midfield after the departure of Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder and possibly Coutinho.

Corinthians: No contact from Inter over Paulinho

Corinthians have dismissed reports of an offer from Inter for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho.

Director of football Roberto de Andrade told reporters that there have been no approaches made for the Seleção star.

"At the moment, Inter have not made contact with us. I can assure you we have not received any offers from Italy, nor from Chelsea for our player.”

The Nerazzurri are reported to be readying an offer of €18m, to be raised from Phillipe Coutinho´s eventual sale to Liverpool, which is said to match Corinthians´ valuation.

The Corinthians midfielder is reported to have a buyout clause at €20m and the club could use that to drive a deal, as time is running out for Inter with the transfer window deadline on Thursday.

The deal rests on the ability to offload Coutinho as quickly as possible, as Inter supremo Massimo Morratti is reluctant to give the go ahead until the deal is done.

Carlos Eduardo aims to win trophies with Flamengo

Flamengo´s new signing Carlos Eduardo has made it his aim to win trophies with the club after completing a loan move from Rubin Kazan.

The Brazilian arrived at the Engenhão on a 18-month loan deal and sasy he hopes to get his career back on track after a torrid time in Russia.

"My goal is to return to the Brazil national team, however, first I want to help Flamengo win something," he told Lancenet. "Flamengo are one of the biggest clubs in the world. The fans here are great and they were a key factor in my decision."

Eduardo endured a nightmare period of his career in Russia as he failed to get back into the team following a serious knee injury that required surgery.

"The coach at Rubin Kazan was afraid to play me after because I still felt a lot of pain. In 2012, as a result, I barely played. The year did not work out well for me."

But the new Flamengo no.10 says he has fully recovered from his injuries and hopes to return to first team action soon.

"I have recovered well from my injury, but I have to improve my physical part. Despite doing two workouts a day, it is not the same when you do it at training," he added.

"I think in two weeks I will be back to my ideal weight and I could be ready.”

Man Utd linked Herrera confirms he will join Porto

Linked to Manchester United for some time, Mexico midfielder Hector Herrera has confirmed that he will join Portuguese giants FC Porto this summer, after days of speculation.

Herrera, 22, who starred in helping his side to a gold medal at the Olympic Games, will leave Pachuca for Europe ahead of the 2013-14 season and will be joined at the club by national team colleague, defender Diego Reyes.

In confirming the deal, Herrera was quick to admit that he was glad to have his teammate’s company in heading for the Old Continent, adding that he hopes his performances in Portugal can help him earn a move to either England of Spain.

“The truth is that I am very happy to know that I’m not going alone and that I will go with a colleague that I have spent much time and have a good relationship with,” Herrera told Mexican media outlet Excelsior. “Thus, it is another joy for me. It is a major challenge for us both and we will be in it together.

“First, I have to do things with Porto in order to later go to Spain or England, with a more renowned team. I know that many great players have played for this club, were sold and went on to succeed with the giant European clubs. I hope I can do the same.”

Herrera did not divulge any details of reported interest from both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but added that the stories encouraged him to continue in his efforts to reach the top: “The interest [from Manchester United and PSG] was testament to my work and shows that the sacrifices I have made in leaving home are paying off.

“As I have always said, this motivates me to work harder and continue to attract the interest of such important teams.”

Se complicó la venta de Centurión

BUENOS AIRES -- La transferencia del atacante del Racing Club Ricardo Centurión a Rusia sufrió este viernes un imprevisto, ya que el club europeo lo quiere ahora y no en junio, que era lo que se había acordado en su momento con la institución argentina.

De esta manera, Racing pedirá un monto mayor a la suma cercana de los siete millones de euros, que fue el monto que aceptó el Anzhi ruso para contratar a Centurión.

La condición que había puesto la dirigencia de Racing para que se realice la operación era que el jugador se quedara los próximos seis meses en Avellaneda para jugar el Torneo Final 2013 con el equipo de Luis Zubeldía.

Recién en junio, Centurión estaba liberado para emigrar a Europa, algo que el club ruso no quiere, ya que se puso firme y pretende al jugador en enero.
