Chuky Ferreira: El remate como elemento vital

Es una grata noticia poder volver al fútbol sudamericano para esta sección que mira de frente al futuro, y más aún a Argentina, donde hace apenas unas semanas festejaban el título del Apertura 2012 para Vélez Sarsfield. El equipo de Liniers ganó justamente, con el proyecto más sólido de los últimos años en el país, con una evidente confianza reflejada en su continuidad y con un protagonista a base de goles que ha sido capaz de reactivar una carrera aún joven, pero que ya contaba con diversos obstáculos. El gol en suelo argentino este curso lleva nombre de asesino en serie aunque con cara de niño, de juvenil, de perla de potrero recién explotada en el primer nivel. El chico del año ha sido Facundo ‘Chucky’ Ferreira.

Se trata de un delantero centro, de 21 años, de enorme eficacia rematadora y con una clara vocación de goleador, porque se mueve apenas en unos metros siempre dentro del área. Suele buscar rápidamente la definición y apenas duda a la hora de afrontar el remate definitivo en un toque (como mucho dos), en la gran mayoría de ocasiones. Utiliza ambas piernas, no es fornido en físico pero sí presiona y muestra una actitud de batalla y dinamismo constante, pero limitándose muy concretamente a buscar portería contraria, ser el referente ofensivo fijo en el área y jugar muy bien de espaldas por su inteligencia para explotar estas virtudes.

La gran capacidad global, la sensación de conjunto y bloque sólido que emana desde hace años el equipo de Ricardo Gareca, le facilitó mucho la transición a un equipo de élite sudamericana este curso y su rol como ‘nueve’, como ese delantero que siempre ha caracterizado al Fortín, ha sido acertadísimo (allí siempre han tenido referentes nacionales). 13 goles en quince partidos durante el Apertura, máximo goleador del torneo, un promedio de gol de 0,87 y su primer título nacional justo cuando más de uno empieza a solicitar su entrada a la selección argentina como alternativa más joven al ataque de la albiceleste de cara al futuro.

Tiene varias anécdotas curiosas que demuestran que su aparición en la élite responde a una larga búsqueda de oportunidades porque como juvenil de Banfield, que fue siempre su equipo y con el que se dejó ver años atrás. Debutó con El Taladro a los 17 años en Primera, pero su aprendizaje fue duro porque descendió de manera fulminante tras un año horrible que le hizo quedar en el ostracismo. Sin embargo, esas previsiones de jugador con capacidad y mucho futuro, hizo que surgieran varias ofertas de los mejores clubes argentinos y decidió aceptar la de Velez donde, como contamos, ha explotado siendo el arma ofensiva determinante para el campeonato liguero. Por tanto, ha pasado en apenas un año del caos de ver como el equipo de tu vida se va al ‘pozo’ a terminar ganando el título con sus goles decisivos, por lo que ahora lo laman ‘Chucky’, como el muñeco asesino.

A nivel internacional ya fue estrella en campeonatos americanos con las categorías inferiores de Argentina, marcó 4 goles en el Sudamericano Sub 20 de 2011, también fue la estrella en el pasado Mundial Sub 20 2011 aunque su rendimiento fue tan pobre como el de la selección y ahora reclama con este título de máximo anotador nacional, una opción en los planes de Alejandro Sabella pensando en luchar por hacerse hueco mundialista aunque, desde luego, dispuesto a brillar al primerísimo nivel sudamericano en la próxima Copa Libertadores que puede abrirle definitivamente el camino hacia un contrato europeo…

Burrell: We have strongest 11 possible players to represent Jamaica

Coming off an embarrassing performance at the Caribbean Cup, Jamaica Football Federation president Captain Horace Burrell feels his country has the strongest roster possible for its World Cup qualifying match at Mexico on Wednesday.

The Reggae Boyz named a 23-man roster for next week’s CONCACAF hexagonal match at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

“One of the mistakes that we will never make again is to have Jamaica parade an 11 on the field that we know is not the strongest 11 available,” Burrell told the Jamaica Gleaner.

“We should never repeat what happened in the Caribbean Cup. We have gone all out to try and secure the strongest 11 possible players to represent this country. We have gone for the most experienced players ever in the history of Jamaica.”

The Jamaicans’ roster include five of the eight United Kingdom-raised players recruited by the JFF, several players who perform in England and Europe, three players from Major League Soccer and domestic-based players.

Those five players, who were selected following the JFF recruiting efforts in Europe last year are either new to the program or have never represented the country in an official game. The list includes Marvin Elliot (Bristol City), Joel Jobi McAnuff (Reading), Garath McCleary (Reading), Theo Robinson (Derby County) and Jermaine Beckford (Huddersfield).

Among the familiar names that coach Ted Whitmore named to the team included three Major League Soccer — Portland Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and forward Ryan Johnson and Houston Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor.

Former New York Red Bulls and Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Dane Richards also was selected. He was listed as a midfielder.

The team will meet in Mexico City on Feb. 3 and will have two training sessions.

“I am very concerned about the limited time with the team in practice, but very confident with the quality of players that we are assembling together,” Whitmore told the Gleaner. “We want to go over there and give a good performance and the result will come.

“If we go down to Mexico thinking that we are going to lose the game then we have already lost the game.”

A pair of 18-year-olds — defender Alvas Powell and midfielder Andre Lewis — are in the squad for development purposes.

“There is a time for every player … at this time we have selected the 23 players that we think are best for the Mexico game,” Whitmore told the Gleaner.

Forward Omar Cummings, recently traded from the Colorado Rapids to the Houston Dynamo, was not selected. Cummings last week underwent knee surgery and will miss three to five weeks.

Honduran standout Cardona dies at 73


Former Honduran standout Joseph Henry “Bunny” Cardona passed away on Wednesday.

Cardona, who was 73, died from a heart attack caused by hypoglycemia at the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

He is best known as being one of the first Hondurans to play overseas. After winning a scoring title and a league championship with Deportivo Hibueras, Cardona was signed by Alicante FC in the Spanish First Division in 1959.

Cardona went on to play and star for Atletico Madrid in Spain from 1964 to 1971.

Julio Dely confirma convocatoria ante Costa Rica

Lo que se esperó durante las horas de la tarde y la noche de ayer, fue revelado hoy. El técnico Julio César Dely Valdés dio a conocer la lista de 21 jugadores convocados para el primer partido del Hexagonal eliminatorio a la Copa del Mundo Brasil 2014 ante Costa Rica que se llevará a cabo el miércoles 6 de febrero en el estadio Rommel Fernández.

Tras haber anunciado la semana pasada los 13 legionarios para enfrentar a los costarricenses y de los cuales al final solamente estarán doce, Dely Valdés seleccionó a nueve jugadores del plano local.

En la lista se destaca la presencia del delantero del Tauro FC, Luis ‘Matagatos’ Rentería, quien no estuvo en la Copa Centroamericana y que regresa para suplir la ausencia de Luis ‘Matador’ Tejada quien se lastimó una rodilla en un partido de la Liga MX de México con su equipo, el Deportivo Toluca.

La selección entrenará los días domingo, lunes y martes, estos dos últimos a puerta cerrada, desde las 7:30 a.m. en el estadio Rommel Fernández.

Racing tiene un acuerdo con Bolatti

BUENOS AIRES -- El presidente de Racing, Gastón Cogorno, informó el sábado que sólo resta el acuerdo con Inter de Porto Alegre para sumar al mediocampista Mario Bolatti, como primer refuerzo del plantel de Luis Zubeldía de cara al próximo torneo Final.

El dirigente aseguró que entre la entidad de Avellaneda y el cordobés "esta todo cerrado", por lo que espera "llegar a un acuerdo" con el club brasileño en torno al pago del salario del jugador.

"Estamos negociando el pago de un préstamo a cambio de que Inter asuma un 75 por ciento del sueldo", comentó el dirigente en diálogo con el programa radial "Dos de punta".

Bolatti, de 27 años, lleva dos años en el club brasileño con poca continuidad, después de jugar en Belgrano de Córdoba, Porto de Portugal, Huracán, Fiorentina y el seleccionado argentino, con el que disputó el Mundial Sudáfrica 2010.

Por otra parte, Cogorno admitió el interés por el delantero uruguayo Carlos Núñez, de Liverpool, también en la carpeta de la dirigencia de Independiente.

"Nos interesó en el verano pasado, cuando estaba (Alfio) Basile. Sé que hay otros equipos que también lo quieren. La mayoría seguimos a los mismos jugadores, por las características que se buscan y lo que puede ofrecer el mercado", argumentó.

Además, confirmó que el juvenil Ricardo Centurión "volvió a Buenos Aires con un precontrato" firmado con el Anzhi de Rusia, al que se sumará tras definir algunas "cuestiones técnicas y operativas entre Racing y el club europeo".

El mediocampista del seleccionado argentino sub 20 y el delantero Gabriel Hauche, que marchó a préstamo al Chievo Verona, fueron las salidas más trascendentes en el plantel de Racing durante el receso de verano.

Finalmente, el presidente aceptó su distanciamiento con el vice Rodolfo Molina por "un hecho puntual" que le "dolió".

"La gestión en el club es dinámica, se toman muchas decisiones. Hubo mucho intercambio de opiniones en este mercado de pases. Creo que hubo gente que habló cuando no tenía que hacerlo, por inexperiencia o por querer vender", completó.

Casemiro: I´m going to play for the Real Madrid first team

Casemiro has vowed to feature for the Real Madrid first team, regardless of being on loan from São Paulo at Madrid´s reserve side.

The 20-year-old, who has made more than 50 appearances for his parent club, has joined the Castilla side until the end of the season.

The los Blancos have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan spell, should they so desire, but the Brazilian has set his sights much higher.

Casemiro explained why he elected to join the Spanish giants’ second string as opposed to accepting offers of a place in the first team of the likes of Roma and Lazio.

He claimed to Lance!: "I´m going to play in the first team of Real Madrid."

The ambitious midfielder´s representative, Joseph Lee, is equally confident of Casemiro making it to the La Liga outfit.

He said: "Casemiro is not a player suited for a reserve team.

"For us, the aim is not for him to play in the B team, but he will make the necessary adaptations playing for Castilla and then go to the first team."

Whilst the claims of the midfielder and his agent might seem a little presumptive, Casemiro has already won the Under-20 World Cup with Brazil in 2011 and earned three caps for the Seleção first team.

Brazil star Ronaldinho vows to ´ruin´ England´s 150th anniversary celebrations

Ronaldinho has stated that Brazil will "ruin" England’s 150-year anniversary party at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The Seleção face the Three Lions as part of the FA’s anniversary, with a return fixture at the Maracana scheduled for June 2.

Ronaldinho, now playing for Atlético Mineiro, has stated that despite the game being a friendly fixture, he means business.

The 32-year-old said: "It is a special game for England with the FA ­celebrating 150 years.

"I’m sure they will be ­looking for a good result to celebrate the occasion, but we are going to ruin the party. For me, this game does not have the word friendly in it."

Although Ronaldinho has been recalled to the Brazil squad after a year-long absence, the former Barcelona star still hopes to claim a place at next year’s World Cup in his native country.

He added: "I have been given a chance to prove what I can still do for Brazil and to have a real chance to be part of the 2014 World Cup.

"To play in a World Cup is always special, but to play in one in your own country is not an opportunity many players get.

"Scolari has made it clear that anything but winning the World Cup in Brazil is not acceptable.

"From now there are no friendly games."

Ronaldinho is still ­remembered for his 2002 World Cup quarter-final winning goal against England, which was a spectacular 40-yard free-kick that baffled goalkeeper David Seaman.

"When we play England, I get asked if I meant that goal in 2002," Ronaldinho concluded.

"I knew David Seaman came off his line quite a lot, and I knew if I put the ball where I did that it could cause him problems. So I meant it. It was not luck."

Atlético Mineiro announce Diego Tardelli signing

Atlético Mineiro have announced the signing of former striker Diego Tardelli from Al-Gharafa.

Club president Alexandre Kalil announced the deal on his personal Twitter account in which he also retweeted Tardelli´s photo which hinted at a return to the club earlier in the day.

This will be Tardelli´s second spell at the club, where he spent two years from 2009 to 2011, scoring 73 goals and finishing as top scorer in 2009.

The deal has been completed after months of negotiations between the two clubs, as negotiations stalled numerous times.

A breakthrough finally occured on Thursday when Al-Gharafa released a statement revealing that the deal was in advanced stages.

The striker will now make the switch from Qatar to Brazil in time to see his new club take on Cruzeiro in the Campeonato Mineiro tonight.

Liverpool´s Lucas Leiva hoping for Brazil recall after ´disappointing´ England friendly snub

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva hopes to return to the national team as soon as possible, after the disappointment of missing Brazil’s friendly with England on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old had been sidelined since December 2011 with a cruciate ligament injury and was ruled out for a further few months after suffering a thigh injury on his return in August.

Despite making a strong comeback recently, Lucas did not receive a call-up from Luiz Felipe Scolari for Brazil’s upcoming game at Wembley.

However, the former Grêmio man hopes to impress the new Seleção coach in time to fulfil his dream by playing at the World Cup.

Lucas said: "I have been out for a while with injuries. But I would really like to be involved in the 2014 World Cup, especially as it is in my country.

"We have the Confederations Cup in December, so hopefully the new manager will come to see me. I just need to be playing well for Liverpool and then that will help me get back into the Brazil squad.

"The Confederations Cup will be like a mini World Cup so I hope after the disappointment of not playing against England at Wembley, I will be able to be in the next squad.

"The main thing now is to get that recall from the manager – that’s a big dream for me."

Jackson Martínez marcó tripleta en la goleada 4-0 del Porto sobre el Guimaraes

Redacción, 2 de febrero de 2013.- El colombiano Jackson Martínez anotó tripleta en el triunfo por goleada del Porto sobre Vitoria Guimaraes.

Jackson Martínez sigue dando cátedra de definición en Portugal. El delantero anotó en tres ocasiones en la goleada de su equipo el Porto 4-0 sobre el Guimaraes y se convierte en el máximo artillero de la liga lusa.

El juego se disputó en campo visitante, en el Dom Afonso Henriques y la presencia goleadora de Jackson apareció al minuto 37 cuando ya estaba arriba en el marcador el equipo dragón con gol de Mangala. Luego, al minuto 56’ y al 73’, ‘Cha cha cha’ colocó cifras concretas al encuentro.

Con este triunfo, el Porto, que no contó con James Rodríguez, es líder del fútbol luso por encima del benfica con 45 puntos.
