QPR goalkeeper Júlio César linked with move to Milan

Queens Park Rangers´ and Brazil´s national team goalkeeper Júlio César is close to a move to Milan, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The former Flamengo goalkeeper played for Milan´s arch-rivals Inter Milan from 2005 to 2012, before moving to London to play for Queens Park Rangers.

Júlio César has been one of the team´s best players this season, but his efforts are not preventing Queens Park Rangers from being relegated.

A relegation could also hinder Júlio César´s chances at the national team although manager Scolari affirmed that would not be an issue.

A transfer would also be facilitated due to the fact goalkeeper Marco Amelia looks set to leave Milan.

The Italian newspaper claims that there is already a ´half-agreement´ between Milan and Júlio César.

If Júlio César´s transfer to Milan is completed, he will become the second Brazilian goalkeeper at the Italian club, joining Gabriel, who came from Cruzeiro.

Atlético Mineiro winger Bernard ruled out for 3 weeks with injury

Tests have confirmed that Atlético Mineiro´s winger Bernard will be out for the next three weeks with a left shoulder injury.

The young star picked up an injury on Sunday in a match against Tupi for the Minas Gerais State Championship.

He underwent tests on Tuesday that confirmed his left shoulder injury and that he will have to be out for the next three weeks.

Bernard will thus miss Brazil´s friendly against Bolivia on Saturday as well as the remaining Atlético Mineiro games in the group stage of Copa Libertadores, including tonight´s match against Arsenal de Sarandí.

The winger will also miss the Minas Gerais State League games against Boa, Caldense and Villa Nova.

Ronaldinho Gaúcho also underwent tests as there were suspicions he might had a back injury, but the issue is not deemed serious and he is expected to face Arsenal de Sarandí and represent Brazil´s national team on Saturday.

Clausura 2012/2013 • WEEK SIX

Cerro Largo 1-1 Liverpool; Danubio 0-1 Nacional; Defensor 3-0 El Tanque Sisley; Central Español 1-3 Peñarol; Cerro 1-1 Racing; River Plate 1-0 Wanderers; Fénix 2-1 Progreso; Bella Vista 5-2 Juventud.

Danubio 0-1 Nacional

After last week’s impressive win over Peñarol, Danubio couldn’t make it 2-0 against Uruguay’s two football giants, they lost to Nacional at Jardines by one goal. That goal was scored by Ivan Alonso, probably the most consistent of Nacional’s collection of has-been players (Sanchez, Recoba and Abreu). For Danubio, Marcelo Tabárez played exceptionally well.

Still despite Alonso’s goal – there’s too much about Nacional that makes you want to tear out your hair, most of it I blame on Adrian Luna, who still relies too much on pelotazos for reasons known only to him and the regressing form of Cristian Núñez.

Arismendi a player to keep an eye on, especially for the NT, hasn’t looked great and may still need a couple of more games to work himself into some type of manageable match-fitness. Nacional at this point continue to be Gonzalo Bueno and little else. Hopefully things will improve with El Vasco Arruabarrena’s arrival. Note – Former NT defensive midfielder, El Pato Sosa, played for Danubio.

Defensor 3-0 El Tanque Sisley

With their win over ETS, Defensor took over the Clausura board. Defensor’s wunderkid Giorgian De Arrascaeta who was featured in a Tenfield article this week, provided Defensor’s third goal.

http://www.tenfield.com.…e-defensor/

Maximiliano Callorda and Ignacio Risso also scored for Defensor. It should be noted though that ETS played with a man down after the 31st minute with the ejection of Andrés Aparicio. Defensor now trail Peñarol by only 3 points in the Tabla Anual.

Bella Vista 5-2 Juventud

Who said the Uruguayan Primera is boring? In a 7 goal thriller, Bella Vista’s 5 goals clobbered Juventud. Bella Vista and Juventud are still jockeying for better positioning in the middle of the Tabla Anual however at this moment Juventud is still in the relegation zone. Laens, Peña, Freitas, Pilipauskas and Vanderhoegh provided Bella Vista’s goals – Blanes and Cavallini provided Juventud’s 2 goals.

Central Español 1-3 Peñarol

In a really uninspired game, Peñarol got the win over Central Español. The win allowed Peñarol to bounce back after last week’s surprising loss to Danubio. Current NT right back, Matías Aguirregaray – whose defensive blunder cost the NT dearly last week – provided the cross which found Juan Manuel Olivera who had no trouble finishing. Zalayeta also scored.

Cerro 1-1 Racing

Not much to report, Rodrigo Brasesco provided Racing’s goal which allowed them to win the match for 10 minutes until Guillermo De Los Santos scored the equalizer for Cerro. Neither team is threatening to do much in this Clausura.

River Plate 1-0 Wanderers

Felipe Avenatti’s goal was enough to sentence the Clasico del Prado in River’s favor. Although currently 5th in the Clausura, they are only 2 points behind Defensor/Danubio/El Tanque Sisley who all have 12 points.

Fénix 2-1 Progreso

José María Franco managed to equalize a game Fénix were losing ten minutes from regulation time, and underrated playmaker Hernán Novick provided the game winner in the 90th minute. Alhough Fénix still hover around the relegation zone, they sit comfortably in 7th place in the Tabla Anual.

Cerro Largo 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool drew once again after winning last week. Their record is now 2 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws. Paulo Pezzolano provided Liverpool’s goal while Darío Flores provided CL’s goal. Note – Mauricio Ruíz (CL) and Facundo Barceló (Liverpool) were each ejected by match referee Leodán González.

Chivas Guadalajara vs. Club América, 2013 Super Clasico: Final score 0-2, Goats crumble

Chivas Guadalajara endured an absolutely disastrous edition of the Super Clasico on Sunday night, losing three players to injury and getting another sent off in a loss to Club América.

Thanks to a slew of injuries and some questionable officiating, Sunday night´s edition of Mexico´s Super Clasico won´t be looked back upon too fondly. Chivas Guadalajara had a terrible night, picking up three injuries and a red card in a 2-0 loss to Club América.

Signs that Chivas would endure a tough evening surfaced very early on. Jorge Enrique was forced out of the match with an injury in the 13th minute, and was replaced by Fernando Gonzalez, a teenager who has appeared in just 39 minutes worth of Liga MX action this season. They lost their captain nine minutes later, as Hector Reynoso, who came into the game with a nagging injury, was unable to continue and came off for Victor Perales.

América looked to take the lead after 30 minutes on a header by Jesus Molina, but the referee spotted a foul by the América midfielder and waved off the goal. The visitors got a boost five minutes later, however, when Chivas defender Sergio Perez was shown a second yellow card, reducing his side to ten men. His foul on ´Chucho´ Cristian Benitez was nothing outrageous, and the referee´s decision to send him off was questionable.

Shortly after the halftime break, América found their opening goal, which turned out to be the winner. Raul Jimenez was the scorer, getting his head onto the end of a cross by Juan Carlos Medina after a short corner routine. Less than two minutes later, Marco Fabian went down and had to exit the game, becoming the third Chivas player to be substituted due to an injury.

In the 74th minute, América sealed their victory. Jimenez was the scorer again, completing a brace with yet another header. Substitute Rubens Sambueza set up the goal, beating his man down the left wing before chipping a ball into the box for Jimenez to run onto and power into the net.

The visitors could have easily scored five or six goals in the second half, but didn´t take advantage of their opportunities. Given Chivas´ lack of opposition in the second half, it´s tough to blame them. America´s win marks the fourth time in four consecutive matches that the away side has won the Super Clasico in Liga MX play.

Tolima punishes Real Garcilaso 3-0

The Colombian team Tolima shellacked Real Garcilaso this Tuesday in Garcilaso de la Vega stadium in Cuzco, Peru. The 3,300 meter altitude did little to affect Tolima as they scored three goals - and allowed none - in the fourth scheduled game of Group 6 competition in the Copa Libertadores de America 2013 tournament.

The goals of the game were all scored by the Paraguayan forward Rogerio Leichtweis, at 54 minutes, 66 minutes, and 84 minutes.

Paraguayan Leichtweiss pursued and shot at Real Garcilaso goalkeeper Diego Carranza like a determined assassin.

The Colombian team attacked with an offensive scheme from the opening minutes of the game. Ándres Andrade and Yimmi Chará looked to score on goalkeeper Diego Carranza, who played relatively well, stopping various shots that came from the feet of the Tolima players.

Tolima used forward Chará and Paraguayan Rogerio Leichtweis to go on the offensive.

After 15 minutes Garcilaso, with Paraguayan midfielder Fabio Ramos as the ´brains´ of the team, reacted and implemented a more offensive style of play using forward Victor Ferreira. Ferreira had several shots on goal, defended by Silva, without success.

After 45 minutes of play the score was still 0-0, a display to the hard work of the goalkeepers of both teams in this game.

Then, at 54 minutes, the visiting team came knocking. Tolima attacked, with Andrade shooting a pass to Paraguayan forward Leichtweis, who sent the ball home, making the score 1-0.

The ´Blue Machine´ could not find a way to stop Tolima.

At 66 minutes Leichtweis stepped onto the scene again, scoring after an error on the part of goalkeeper Carranza. This left the game 2-0.

The Paraguayan scored again at 84 minutes, a third goal that finally put away the team directed by coach Fredy García.

Real Garcilaso, frantic, tried to put points on the board, but could not in the face of a hard fighting defense on the part of the Colombians, who kept the score 3-0 in their favor.

With this result, Tolima and Garcilaso both have 7 points in Group 6 Copa Libertadores competition, but the Colombians stay in first place as their average of goals scored is higher.

Vélez Sarsfield wins and passes to the quarterfinals (3-1)

Argentinian team Vélez Sarsfield has become the second team to classify for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores de America 2013 tournament after beating Deportes Iquique 3-1 this Tuesday. The game, part of group 4 competition, was played in the ´Tierra de Campeones´ stadium of Iquique.

In a game played at a more leisurely pace and without much effort from the Argentinian side, Sebastián Domínguez put the first points on the scoreboard at 17 minutes. Slightly more than ten minutes later, at 19 minutes, Lucas Romero beat the Deportes Iquique goalkeeper from long range and added a second goal.

Before the end of the first half, Iquique reacted by capitalizing on a defensive error that Vélez Sarsfield commited. Manuel Villalobos scored on the opportunity that resulted and put Iquique within striking distance at 39 minutes. Even so, at 50 minutes, Johnathan Copete put the game out of reach by scoring the third goal for Vélez Sarsfield.

Palmeiras and a win to relieve the pressure

Palmeiras, who with this victory has reached second place in Group 2 competition behind Libertad of Paraguay, scored their first goal at 18 minutes, when Caio slipped the ball in the net after a pin point pass from Vinicius.

Vinicius had entered the game only two minutes before as a substitute for Patric Vieira, who had been injured.

The second goal game in the second half, at 52 minutes, from the foot of midfielder Charles, who played in the past for Cruzeiro. Charles received a pass from Vinicius which allowed him to annote his first goal playing for Palmeiras.

Palmeiras dominated the first half without problems, and had various opportunities to score.
Tigre did better reaching the other side of the field in the second half, when it mounted an offensive.

They lost an excellent opportunity to score when Galmarini dropped the hammer on the ball at 71 minutes, but the goalkeeper for Palmeiras, Fernando Prass, made a save for the Brazilians.
