Argentina and Venezuela on to the final round of the U-17 along with Paraguay

Argentina and Venezuela have joined Paraguay, who qualified on Monday, and will be the three teams from Group A that will play in theU-17 Sudamericano hexagonal final that starts Sunday. Meanwhile Colombia and Ecuador failed to qualify.

Venezuela drew 0-0 with Paraguay getting the point they needed to qualify. Argentina squeaked by Colombia 3-2 ending their dream to be in the World Cup.

Ecuador, in fifth place in Group A, also was eliminated.

With these results Paraguay stays in first place on 8 points followed by Argentina (6), Venezuela (5), Ecuador (4) and Colombia (3).

The three teams start hexagonal play on Sunday against the three top teams from Group B comprised of Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Bolivia.

Brazil and Uruguay have already qualified from Group B. Brazil is top of the group with 7 points followed by Uruguay (5), Peru (4), Chile (3) and Bolivia (1).

Despite being in last place Bolivia still has a chance to qualify but they have to defeat Uruguay on Thursday and hope Brazil defeats Peru.

Chile can not get any more points as they have already played all their matches.

The last round of games will be played on Thursday at the Malvinas Argentinas stadium in the city of Mendoza which is some 1,100 kilometers to the west of Buenos Aires

Libertadores: Garcilaso crushes Cerro Porteño and still have hope of qualifying

Real Garcilaso defeated Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño 5-1 this Wednesday at the Garcilaso de la Vega stadium in the city of Cusco. This was a fifth round match in Group 6 of the 2013 Copa Libertadores.

The goals were scored by Oscar Gamarra in the 8th and 89th minutes, Mauricio Montes (36), Víctor Ferreira (73) and Fabio Ramos (76). Paraguay got their loan goal from Roberto Nanni (12).

With this result Garcilaso is in second place with 10 points, one less than Colombia´s Santa Fe -who qualified on Tuesday to the round of 16-. Meanwhile Tolima of Colombia is third with 7 points and Cerro Porteño is last with 0 points.

The sixth and last round of the group will be played next Tuesday where Garcilaso will visit Santa Fe in the Campín de Bogotá stadium and Cerro Porteño will host Tolima in Asuncion.

Corinthians, ya clasificado a octavos de final de la Copa Libertadores de América-2013, goleó por 3-0 en la noche del miércoles al San José boliviano.

Los goles del ´Timao´ llegaron por intermedio de Romarinho (25), Paolo Guerrero (59), Edenílson (90+2).

Aunque clasificado, Corinthians lanzó los primeros minutos un férreo ataque, buscando un triunfo que lo colocara en la punta de la llave sobre el mexicano Tijuana.

Fluminense sella empate con Gremio y tiene un pie en octavos

Muchos fueron los remates al arco y los chances de gol, pero el arco estaba cerrado y la pelota nunca consiguió entrar.

El club Fluminense de Rio de Janeiro firmó este miércoles un empate sin goles con el también brasileño Gremio en Porto Alegre y su clasificación a los octavos de final de la Copa Libertadores de América 2013 parece un hecho a falta de la sexta y última fecha del Grupo 8.

Fluminense es líder con ocho puntos y tiene aún un juego por disputar: Caracas -de la llave con 6- en Rio de Janeiro.

Mientras que Gremio, tercero con 7, visita a Huachipato en Chile, segundo también con 7 pero con mejor diferencia de goles.

Tijuana venció a Millonarios y mantuvo su paso perfecto como local

Tijuana venció 1-0 a Millonarios la noche del miércoles en partido de la sexta y última jornada del Grupo 5 de la Copa Libertadores de América-2013, disputado en el estadio Caliente de la ciudad de Tijuana.

El ecuatoriano Fidel Martínez, al minuto 90+3, hizo el gol para el triunfo de los Xoloitzicuintles que terminaron como segundos del grupo con 13 puntos clasificados a octavos de final. Millonarios terminó eliminado en el cuarto lugar con tres unidades.

Tal como se esperaba, ambas escuadras salieron con alineaciones alternativas a cumplir el trámite de cerrar la segunda fase y ofrecieron un primer tiempo de contadas ocasiones de peligro ya que entablaron una cerrada lucha en el mediocampo.

En la segunda mitad Tijuana anunció sus deseos de romper el empate sin goles y ganar el partido con el ingreso de su hombre más desequilibrante, el delantero colombiano Duvier Riascos, quien le dio más viveza al ataque de los "Xolos".

El común denominador de los intentos al ataque de los dos equipos en el complemento fue el tiro de media distancia.

Cuando el tiempo de compensación estaba por consumirse, "Neymartínez" apareció en el área para decretar el triunfo del equipo mexicano.

Monterrey topped La Galaxy 1-0 in the second leg of CCL

MONTERREY, Mexico - Aldo de Nigris´ goal in the 81st minute lifted Monterrey to a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals Wednesday night at Estadio Tecnologico.

The two-time defending champions won 3-1 on aggregate, reaching the final for a third consecutive year and will face Santos Laguna in an all-Mexican final. It´s a rematch of last year´s final, won by the Rayados, 3-2.

On goals by Humberto Suazo and de Nigris in the final eight minutes, Monterrey rallied to win the opening leg, 2-1, at the Home Depot Center last week.

Cesar Delgado cut the ball back inside the box and de Nigris put the finishing touches on the two-legged semifinal, scoring his 12th career CONCACAF Champions League goal.

Needing at least two goals to advance, the visitors had the better of play from the opening kickoff, but didn´t threaten in the Monterrey third. The best early chance came in the 15th minute when Leonardo latched onto Landon Donovan´s free kick. But the Brazilian defender was called for a foul against Jose Basanta.

Just before the half hour mark, Monterrey, which improved to 13-1-2 at home in the CONCACAF Champions League, began keeping the ball and started to get scoring opportunities. After a ball-winning tackle in midfield, Walter Ayovi sprung de Nigris toward goal, but Galaxy central defender Omar Gonzalez did just enough to harass the forward into putting his attempt from 17 meters tantalizingly wide in the 27th minute.

Gonzalez was also dangerous on the other end of the field as the U.S. international followed his initial header off a Donovan cover and poked a shot at goal. But Ibarra made a kick save to deny Gonzalez in the 31st minute.

Three minutes later, Neri Cardozo cut a ball back into the box to an open Suazo, but the Chilean scuffed his chance from 12 meters.

LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena brought on Mike Magee, Jose Villarreal and Jack McBean, switching to three defenders in the back in the final 10 minutes in a desperate to create scoring chances.

Instead it was Monterrey that was more dangerous in the attacking third. In the 64th minute, Suazo played the ball to an open Cardozo inside the 18-yard box, but Juninho sprinted back and made a goal-saving tackle. With Carlo Cudicini slightly off his line, Suazo nearly curled the ensuing corner into the net, but the Italian goalkeeper recovered well to parry the attempt away.

Two minutes later, Cudicini dived to his right to save Suazo´s low shot with the outside of his right foot from 18 meters.

Delgado nearly chipped Cudicini in the 73rd minute, but the floating attempt landed on the top netting.

Los Angeles´ slim chance to get a result, though, ended when de Nigris found the back of the net nine minutes from full time, sending Estadio Tecnologico into rapturous applause and sending the Rayados back to another final.

LA CHORRERA, Panama -- Canada booked a spot in quarterfinals of the 2013 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship by playing Costa Rica to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

The result gave the Canadians (1-0-1, four points) the Group B title and boosted Trinidad & Tobago (1-1-0, three points) into the knockout round as well while the Ticos (0-1-1, one) were eliminated from the competition.

Arington Torres had given Costa Rica a 1-0 lead, but Hanson Boakai connected for the equalizer in the 76th minute for Canada at Estadio Agustin Muquita Sanchez.

The Costa Ricans had the best chances in a scoreless first half. David Valverde sent a shot over the crossbar in the 21st minute. Berny Burke fired a left-footed attempt that goalkeeper Marco Carducci saved in the 33rd minute. Jeison Seas just missed the goal on the right with an 18-yard attempt six minutes later. And Jordan Medina hit the crossbar from 16 yards in the 43rd minute.

Costa Rica´s Randall Leal was yellow carded by referee Jonathan Polanco (Guatemala) for diving in the penalty area while vying for the ball along with Canada´s Kevon Black in the 37th minute.

Two minutes into first-half stoppage time, it appeared Canada had taken the lead on Alex Comsia´s header from point-blank range off a long free kick, but it was called back for offside.

The Ticos continued to dominate play early in the second half, but continued to misfire on their attempts. Five minutes in, Leal made a nice run down the left side and unleashed a 16-yard shot that sailed over the crossbar.

Costa Rica´s persistence paid off in the 59th minute. A long pass from the left side found a streaking Torres, who beat defender Ian Fernandes before chipping the ball over Carducci from 12 yards for a 1-0 advantage.

The goal appeared to have awaken the Canadians, who leveled the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute on Boakai´s rising 20-yard shot that goalkeeper Jorge Jara could not stop.

Boakai almost connected for the game winner in the 85th minute, but he put a right-wing feed over the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Carducci was called on to preserve the tie as he parried a free kick over the net.

Panama 2-0 win over Barbados and into QF Under-17

LA CHORRERA, Panama -- Ervin Zorrilla scored two goals -- once in each half -- to lift Panama to a 2-0 win over Barbados and into the quarterfinals of the 2013 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship on Wednesday night.

The victory gave Los Canaleros (1-0-1, four points) the Group A title as idle Jamaica (0-0-2, two) also qualified for the knockout round. Barbados (0-1-1, one) was eliminated from the competition.

In the first game of the doubleheader at Estadio Agustin Muquita Sanchez, Canada tied Costa Rica, 1-1, in a Group B encounter, to reach the quarterfinals as well.

Zorrilla sent the host team into the lead with a goal in the 24th minute. Zorrilla turned on his defender in the penalty area, cut back onto his left foot and finished past goalkeeper Keon Harding at the near post from eight yards out.

The Panamanian struck again in the 79th minute on a great solo effort to give the hosts some breathing room. Zorrilla beat his man on the left side before firing the ball into the roof of the net at the near post for a 2-0 advantage.

Los Canaleros held on the rest of the way to move closer to qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup as goalkeeper Jaime de Gracia recorded the shutout.

The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, with the four winners qualifying for the U-17 World Cup, which will be played in the United Arab Emirates from Oct. 17-Nov. 8.
