They are in the middle of the fight for the four spots given to the 2013 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
The Uruguayan team jumped to four points, together with Argentina and Brazil, followed by Paraguay (3) and Peru (0), while Venezuela climbed to the top with 7 points after a 2-1 win over Peru on Sunday in the match that opened the third round.
Uruguay got goals from Marcio Benítez (1 minute), Kevin Méndez (8) and Franco Acosta (16) while Antonio Sanabria (68) got the lone goal for Paraguay from a free-kick.
The game was played in the Juan Gilberto Funes stadium in the city of La Punta, San Luis, some 800 kilometers to the west of Buenos Aires.
The Uruguayans, world runners-up, got back to winning ways against Paraguay after tying Argentina (3-3), who scored in the last minute, and a loss to Brazil (1-0) in the first game of the hexagonal.
Paraguay on the other hand lost 1-0 to Venezuela in the first game and then got their first 3 points by defeating Peru 3-1 in the next game.
In the next round of games on Wednesday Uruguay will face Venezuela, Paraguay goes up against Argentina, and Brazil will measure themselves against Peru.
The tournament gives four spots to the World Cup to be held from October 17 to November 8 in the United Arab Emirates.
