Flamengo in advanced negotiations to sign Bologna defender Roger Carvalho


The negotiations between Flamengo and Roger Carvalho have advanced and the defender is now close to joining the club.

Roger Carvalho currently plays for Italian club Bologna, he worked with Flamengo´s manager in 2011, when both were at Figueirense.

Flamengo´s vice-president Wallim Vasconcellos talked to Rádio Bradesco Esportes FM about the negotiations, he said: "We are still talking and the negotiations are very advanced. There are still a few details left, but we close to having a positive outcome."

He added that Roger Carvalho might not be the only players Flamengo will sign, he said: "I don´t know if he will be the first signing as other negotiations are underway."

"Jorginho requested him and convinced us to try to sign the player. He praised Roger Carvalho a lot, we are focusing on his suggestions."

Flamengo´s director of football Paulo Pelaipe also talked about the negotiation conditions, he said: "We can´t buy Roger, he´ll come on a loan deal like most of the other players we have signed so far."

Ronaldo, Bebeto to play Maracanã inaugural game on Saturday

World Champions Bebeto and Romário are among the stars that will play the inaugural game of the new Maracanã stadium on Saturday.

The list includes mainly players that shone for Rio de Janeiro-based clubs, as well as some players that have not retired yet.

Futsal star Falcão will also play the game, while famous fans from Rio de Janeiro´s big teams will sign Brazil´s national anthem.

The match which will be played behind closed doors, but the 8,000 workers that built the stadium will, however, be allowed to watch the game.

The stadium will host Brazil´s friendly against England in June, and may also host a game involving Flamengo or Fluminense in May.

Roma´s Marquinhos plays down Barcelona link

Marquinhos has played down reports linking him with a move away from Roma and says he is happy in the Italian capital.

The 18-year-old defender has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days but the Brazilian says he intends to honour his contract.

"I´m a Roma player, I have a contract and I´m very happy to be here," the 18-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

"I made the choice to come here together with my family and my agent, and I am happy with the decision. I have another four years on my contract.

"I was badly misinterpreted by comments [earlier this week]. I only wanted to say that I am thinking just of training and playing because everything else is taken care of by my agent and the club."

Marquinhos has had a sensational first season with Roma since joining the Serie A giants from Corinthians in the summer.
