Her kunne Arsenal-lejesvenden have sendt Grêmio i finalen, men ak ak. Forsøget røg langt over mål.
Corinthians ude mod Ponte Preta er dog ikke "a walk in the park".
Santos deny reports that Neymar wants to leave

Santos have denied rumours that Neymar is set to leave the club to join Barcelona after yet more reports emerged linking the Brazilian to Spain.

The Peixe vice-president Odilio Rodrigues denied that he told a Spanish radio station that Neymar wants to leave the club and is now setting the record straight.

"Interviews through the phone are a complicated thing. A Spanish radio station called, but that thing they put in the paper is not true," he told Globoesporte.

"I told him [the reporter] that I had read that [that Neymar said he wanted to leave] in a newspaper. They either tried too hard to get something out of it, or they simply misunderstood what I said."

"It is not true either [that Santos are willing to start welcoming bids for Neymar]. He asked me if there were any clubs interested, and I said yes, of course, every transfer window there are new bids for him coming in, and we don´t expect it to be different this time."

Seleção legend Romario slams "imbecile" Pelé

Romário has reignited a long-running feud with Pelé by calling the Seleção legend "an imbecile" in his latest outburst at the former striker.

The former Flamengo striker had initally called O Rei a "poet when he doesn´t speak" which provoked a response from Pelé.

"There are lots of people who don´t really know what they want and simply attack the past. But I´m a Catholic and I believe that God has always forgiven the ignorant, so I forgive the ignorant," Pelé said on Friday.

And in response to the ex-forward, Romário wrote on his official Facebook page: "Yesterday, Pelé responded to my famous quote, "Quiet, Pele is a poet". It is a commonly used phrase, after all, he´s always giving reason for it to be used.

"The last foolish thing he said was that Corinthians should be used as the base to the Selecao. He asked for it, didn´t he?

"A few pieces of information about this gentleman... First of all, the base of the team he suggested to the Selecao got the biggest boo of their history. And deservedly so, because they were awful.

"Secondly, he said he´s a big Catholic. I don´t think he´s such a Catholic. If he was, he would´ve recognised his daughter and gone to her funeral.

"Aside from a poet, he´s also an imbecile."

Brazil legend Rivelino laments "unstylish" Seleção

Seleção legend Rivelino has slammed Luiz Felipe Scolari´s side not for being "stylish" enough and says they are back to square one.

The World Cup winner claims that there is no direction to the Seleção and believes that the patience of the supporters is waning.

"Unfortunately, Brazil looked like a bunch of players running everywhere, without direction. It was crazy," the 67-year-old told Gazeta Esportiva.

"They showed will, but ran too much, and were doing it all wrong. Today, more than ever, the collective is very important. There´s no place for the outstanding player [to win a match alone] anymore. If the Seleção lacks a style, then it gets complicated.

"So far, I don´t know what the starting XI is, how they will play, or which tactics will be used. The Brazilian supporters´ trust has reached its limit.

"What we want is a style. There´s no obligation to win every match, but they have to show quality football. We want them to be ready, playing and giving it all when things go bad. If they lose, but keep fighting, we will acknowledge that."Right now, we´re practically at square one."

Saturday roundup: Boca lose again to give Estudiantes first win

The longest winless run since 1957, Boca continue to struggle

Boca Juniors are turning out to be the team to play for any struggling side hoping to end any losing streaks as yesterday was the turn of Estudiantes. Without a win this season the team from La Plata were able to take advantage and pick up a valuable 1 – 0 win.

San Lorenzo deprived Godoy Cruz the chance to close the gap on the leaders as they came back from a goal down to salvage a draw in the Nuevo Gasometro.

Colon earned a hard fought 1 – 0 win over Arsenal and in the battle of the two relegation threatened sides, San Martin defeated Union 3 – 1.

ESTUDIANTES LA PLATA 1 – 0 BOCA JUNIORS

10 games now without a win for Boca Juniors matches a run of results not seen since 1957 but manager, Carlos Bianchi refuses to get worried, “I do not look at the statistics…I just think about improving the team.” And improvement them he must as, particularly in the absence of Juan Roman Riquelme, Boca look completely devoid of any creativity while also looking rather fragile defensively. The Torneo Final is obviously written off and there is no threat from relegation but if Boca wish to make a serious challenge in the Copa Libertadores they must improve dramatically. This run of results has also seen bottom side, Union break their 26 game unbeaten run by winning in La Bombonera and only a couple of weeks ago, other relegation candidates San Martin thrashed Boca 6 – 1 and now Estudiantes earn their first win.
Boca had the better of possession but the only goal came when Duvan Zapata’s shot was saved by Ariel Orion and the rebound was sidefooted home by Maxi Nuñez.

SAN LORENZO 1 – 1 GODOY CRUZ

Martin Palermo’s side dropping two more points here sees them drop off the pace of Lanus but credit should be given to San Lorenzo for their spirited performance in the second half to earn a draw. Denis Stracqualursi was responsible for a bad first half for San Lorenzo when he was sent off after 37 minutes, two minutes later they were further punished when Mauro Obolo headed in a cross from the left. However, in the second half the sides were even again after Emanuel Insua was shown a red card for Godoy. San Lorenzo rallied and in the 80th minute found an equaliser, good work down the right created the opening and Walter Kannemann applied the headed finish.

COLON 1 – 0 ARSENAL

Colon’s good form continues since the appointment of Pablo Morant and they piled more misery on Arsenal, following their Libertadores exit and last weekend’s defeat to San Lorenzo. The goal came early in the second half when midfielder, Sebastian Prediger cut in from the left and fired in from outside the box. The midfielder is one of the players who has certainly improved under Morant.

SAN MARTIN 3 – 1 UNION

Two sides who will (minus a miracle) be playing in the Nacional B next season clashed in San Juan and it was the hosts who prevailed. Despite falling behind early to Guillermo Cosaro’s goal, San Martin came back strongly. Two goals from Claudio Riaño turned the game around before Andres Franzoia was sent off for Union and Lucas Landa headed home an injury time third.

Sunday’s football has implications at both ends of the table

Independiente finally got back to winning ways in Brindisi’s second game in charge with a 3 – 1 win over Argentinos Juniors in Avellaneda. The result lifts them back above San Martin but they remain in the relegation places and are still a long way from safety.

The team just above them, Quilmes, looked to be heading for defeat in the Monumental against River Plate but a late equaliser from Martin Cauteruccio earned them a crucial point. The draw means that River Plate fall four points behind leaders Newell’s Old Boys.

Earlier, Newell’s looked like they too were heading for a point but a dramatic late winner by Maxi Rodriguez earned them a 4 – 3 win against Racing. Young Racing striker, Luciano Vietto, will be disappointed that despite his hat trick he ended up on the losing side. Vietto is the first Racing player to score two hat tricks in the short championships, following his first against San Martin.

INDEPENDIENTE 3 – 1 ARGENTINOS JUNIORS

Independiente’s first win in seven gives them a faint glimmer of hope of avoiding relegation and despite not playing particularly well they managed to win and, even stranger, score 3 goals in a game. A very poor first half was quickly forgotten when Leonel Galeano headed the home side in front. A wonderful strike from Reinaldo Lemos levelled things but Independiente did not crumble as they have in recent weeks. Daniel Montenegro fired home a penalty and two minutes later Adrian Fernandez made sure of the win.

NEWELL’S OLD BOYS 4 – 3 RACING CLUB

A thriller in Rosario was finally settled by Maxi Rodriguez and maintained Newell’s hopes of claiming the championship. Two goals ahead after half an hour (Milton Casco and Nacho Scocco) it looked like Newell’s would ease to win but Luciano Vietto inspired a Racing come back. Despite playig with 10 men after Diego Villar was sent off, Vietto showed why he is considered one of Argentina’s top prospects. His two goals drew Racing level before Pablo Perez gave Newell’s the lead again. Earlier goal scorer, Casco was then sent off and Vietto once again got Racing back on level terms. The game looked to be heading for a draw but Maxi Rodriguez scored a dramatic injury time winner.

RIVER PLATE 1 – 1 QUILMES

The celebrations at the Monumental were cut short by Martin Cauteruccio’s 88th minute goal as they now trail Newell’s by four points. Colombian defender, Eder Alvarez Balanta scored again to give River the lead and it looked to be the match winner but Cauteruccio’s strike earned Quilmes a draw. Alvarez Balanta looks like a real find as the 20 year old impressed defensively but again showed his aerial threat at the other end. Yet to sign a professional deal at River, they will need to get him tied down to a deal soon.
