Peruvian football receives injection of new ambitious clubs

Real Garcilaso of Cusco, who on Thursday eliminated Uruguayan club Nacional and moved on to the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores, is a team with just four years of history, part of a group of young Peruvian squadrons that have achieved rapid prominence in national and international tournaments.

In addition to Real Garcilaso, other clubs in Peru like Sport Huancayo, César Vallejo and Unión Comercio are recently founded institutions in different provinces of the country, which in recent years have managed to qualify in their own right to the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

Garcilaso, founded in 2009, eliminated Nacional of Uruguay in a penalty shootout at the Copa Libedtadores. Nacional has been around for a hundred years and has 3 Copa Lib titles to their name.

"Our successes are based on the organization and good planning of our sports institution", said club vice president Wilder Cárdenas to the AFP, acknowledging their economic limitations compared to the big teams in Latin America.

Cárdenas considers the human factor, the economic tranquility (all players are paid on time) and the altitude, 3,400 meters at home in the city of Cusco, has helped them to achieve results in the Libertadores and the local tournament.

Valuable campaign
Garcilaso made it to the first division in 2011 and had a remarkable campaign in 2012, their debut, reaching the Peruvian championship where they lost to Sporting Cristal. Second place Garcilaso, with 24 wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats, qualified to play the Copa Libertadores for the first time.

The club, coached by Peruvian Freddy García, has a contingent of Paraguayan players led by Fabio Ramos, forwards Víctor Ferreira, Oscar Gamarra and defenseman Rolando Bogado.

Making a name in South America

At barely two years older than Garcilaso, Sport Huancayo club was founded in 2007 in the Andean city of Huancayo (3,200 meters) and is another young team that seeks to make a name for themselves and in 2010 qualified for their first Copa Sudamericana.

Of course their tournament wasn´t the best. The Andean team lost in Uruguay against Defensor Sporting by a 9-0 score line, which is the largest margin of defeat in the history of the tournament.

In 2011 Sport Huancayo had their best season to date in the Peruvian tournament coming in third and qualifying for the first time for the 2012 Copa Libertadores, where they were eliminated in first round.

This year they qualified to the Copa Sudamericana which begins in July.

César Vallejo, a club from the city of Trujillo and founded in 1996, qualified this year for the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores, but were eliminated by Tolima of Colombia. Currently the club sits in sixth place in the local tournament.

Another new Peruvian football club, Unión Comercio, was founded in 2002 in San Martín and after just two seasons in the local tournament qualified for the 2012 Copa Sudamericana.

Despite efforts to win in regional football, Cienciano of Cusco is the only Peruvian club to achieve glory in international tournaments: the 2003 Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa in 2004. The paradox is that it has never been champion in Peru.

Neymar - saga...

Neymar to Bayern a done deal claims ex-Santos official

A former Santos official claims that Neymar is set to join Bayern Munich rather than Barcelona this summer.

Ex-Santos official Vicente Cascione believes that despite talks between Barcelona and Neymar´s party, a deal is already done to take the Brazilian to the Allianz Arena.

Barcelona were believed to be in pole position to clinch a deal for Neymar but Cascione suggests that the Santos star has elected to join Pep Guardiola in Germany.

"I have this information first hand. Neymar has signed for Bayern Munich. It´s already a done deal," Cascione wrote on his blog.

"I am not speculating here. This information is irrefutable. From August this year on, the player will be part of Bayern´s squad.

"So his next destination will not be Spain, like many expected. He´s not going to Barcelona or Real Madrid. He will go to Germany."

Santos demands €50m for Barcelona target Neymar - reports

Santos have told Barcelona that they are demanding €50m for their 55% stake in Seleção star Neymar according to reports in Brazil.

Globoesporte claims that Santos are willing to start negotiations at €50m, and if that is paid then they would be willing to allow the player and his other stakeholders to talk to Barcelona officials.

Santos currently own 55% of the player, while the remaining 45% is split between DIS, who hold 40% and a consortium closely linked to the club, who hold 5%.

Barcelona would have to successfully negotiate with all of the aforementioned parties to secure a deal for the forward in the summer.

So far, Santos have consistently denied any deal is currently in the pipeline and that they intend to keep Neymar until 2014, when his contract expires.

However, reports suggest that the club are resigned to selling the player in order to make money, otherwise they risk him moving next summer for free.
