Chelsea news: Stefan Borson drops update on £175m off-field deal

Chelsea’s sale of their women’s team is unlikely to be rejected by the Premier League despite reportedly not yet being assessed for fair market value.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the west London club believe the deal should be worth between £150-£175million.
The London giants are believed to have been close to the spending limit again last season, but the Premier League didn’t hand out charges to any clubs.

In a further attempt to offset their major losses, Chelsea sold their women’s team to BlueCo in June last year.

Chelsea to highlight Angel City FC sale to Premier League

Borson revealed Chelsea will have pointed to the recent £204million sale of NWSL side Angel City FC in a bid to see their valuation approved.

He told Football Insider: “The women’s team sale is a more complicated transaction than the hotels because it’s a more subjective valuation.

“You would expect those exchanges between the league and the club to take some time to resolve, so it’s not a surprise that it’s not been resolved within six months.

“We know from the APT Man City hearing of the sorts of timescales that these things can take, and the sorts of processes that people go into.

“The bottom line is that it takes time for them to clear it. I wouldn’t imagine they will have cleared it for some months.
“It means that the accounts Chelsea produce will be subject to a similar sort of proviso that they had in last year, where they said ‘This is the profit that we think we have got from the hotels, but they have not yet been approved for fair value, so that is subject to change’. It will probably say something similar.

“But we know that the number they were going for was very significant, probably in the order of £150-£175million. I assume they will have pointed to the sale of the US women’s team Angel City FC, who have a high valuation.

“Chelsea would argue that they are the most valuable women’s team in the world and, therefore, their value is defendable. I wouldn’t expect it to be rejected now. That would be very surprising.

“I think the combination of property sales and the women’s team for well over £200million would have got them through this current cycle.”

Deivid Washington wants to leave Chelsea and join Santos

Despite joining for a substantial transfer fee, there have been no opportunities for Deivid Washington, even though he is scoring on average every 60 minutes in Premier League 2.

The 19-year-old’s chance at breaking into the first team look unlikely, and now talk of a move away has come to the surface.

Journalist Andre Hernan has stated that Washington wants a move back to Brazil to play for Santos, a side who are also pushing to sign Neymar on loan from Saudi Arabia.

He said: “David Washington wants to play for Santos and Santos wants the young striker trained in the youth academy to return. The talks between the club and the player are in order. Now Chelsea just needs to say “yes” to the striker’s loan.”

Chelsea change transfer stance on €14m ace, exit now likely as European giants prepare to go head to head

Chelsea are more open to the idea of letting Renato Veiga leave on loan if the finances of the deal are right according to The Athletic.

With the January window in full swing the Blues have had a quieter window so far than many expected and as of yet they have yet to move any players on.

Chelsea did complete their first signing after agreeing a deal worth up to €15m with Strasbourg for Mamadou Sarr, with the 19-year-old set to join in the summer.
Chelsea set to change stance on Veiga

The Blues have made a number of players available to leave this month but as of yet no deals have materialised, with Cesare Casadei seemingly the closest to leaving the club.

Chelsea are open to Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi leaving the club, but as of yet progress on any exits appears slow.

One player who wasn’t expected to leave was Veiga, with the 21-year-old only arriving last summer for £12m from FC Basel.

However, it’s believed the Portugal international is open to leaving in order to play more minutes in his preferred centre back position.

Veiga has started just one Premier League game this season, although he’s fared better in the Conference League where he’s scored twice,

Borussia Dortmund are said to have submitted an official loan offer, whilst Juventus are also in negotiations for the Portuguese.

Chelsea were said to have set their asking price at €30m, but The Athletic have reported the Blues are now more open to a loan if the finances of the deal are right.
The report adds Veiga’s preference is to go on loan to get more playing time ahead of returning to Stamford Bridge next season.

Ultimately going out on loan and playing regularly would be of benefit to Veiga, but it would leave Chelsea very short at left back, and it’s likely Reece James or Malo Gusto would have to fill in.

Chelsea are set to hold more talks for Garnacho this week, as well as Tel and Gittens, before deciding whether to submit a bid for any of them.

Chelsea are also looking at the striker department, primarily for the summer but could accelerate a move this month if an opportunity arises - Liam Delap and Benjamin Sesko are thought to be among those of interest.

will assess their midfield options before the January transfer window closes. It is anticipated that Lavia will be missing for weeks.
