August 9, 2021: Nainggolan spent the duration of last season on loan at Cagliari and Cagliari made an attempt to bring him back to the club on a permanent basis but were ultimately unable to agree terms with Inter for the Belgian, who they reportedly agreed personal terms with.
“From a fan’s point of view, I have a huge regret. At one point last year, with Radja we had shown that we were a great team with him on the pitch,” he explained in an interview which appeared in print edition of Tuttosport.
“From a business point of view, however, given the economic problems in football, as president I say that in the end I am happy that the negotiation did not go through, given the costs.”
August 11, 2021: Nahitan Nandez Expects Cagliari President Giulini To Keep Promise & Let Him Join Inter, Italian Media Claim
December 30, 2021:
Inter are still interested in signing Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez in January should someone from the midfield leave the club during the window, according to a report in the Italian media.
As has been reported by Quotidiano Sportiva, Inter executives such as Sporting CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio still would like to add the Uruguayan midfielder to the squad at some point due to his great attitude on the pitch and his versatility.
In order for that to happen in January though, someone would need to leave the Nerazzurri first. This is an unlikely scenario but if it were to happen it would almost certainly be fellow Uruguayan Matias Vecino.
January 3, 2022: Fabio Capello: “Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez Would Strengthen Inter But Nerazzurri Already Strong Enough”
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview in today’s print edition, the former coach gave the view that the Nerazzurri could well sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, but that they remain extremely formidable if they don’t.
The January transfer window is now open, and the Nerazzurri are beginning to consider whether or not they want to make signings to improve their team.
Nandez is one of the key targets, having already been one of the main considerations during the summer before they were unable to agree on a deal for him with Cagliari.
It remains to be seen whether Inter ultimately decide to resume their pursuit for the Uruguayan, but Capello does not believe that doing so is necessary given what they already have.
“Adding a player like that could keep them competitive,” he stated, “but the Nerazzurri are already the strongest team in the league, which I have said since the beginning of the season.”

January 3, 2022: Inter are working towards the signing of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez during the January transfer window.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the 25-year-old remains one of the Nerazzurri’s transfer priorities for this month.
Inter are only likely to make signings this month in the event that players leave the club, with defender Aleksandar Kolarov and midfielder Matias Vecino among the likeliest players to go. Should the Nerazzurri see players head to the exit door, Vecino in particular, they are ready to reinforce the squad with replacements, however.
Nandez had been one of the Nerazzurri’s primary targets during the summer transfer window, and they are ready to return for the versatile Uruguayan this month.
It remains to be seen if Cagliari will be more amenable on agreeing a transfer for the midfielder this month after the Nerazzurri were unable to convince the Rossoblu on a move last summer.

January 23, 2022: Cagliari CEO Mario Passetti On Inter Target Nahitan Nandez: “Not Planning To Let Him Leave In January”
Asked about Nandez and a possible departure, Passetti stated that “We’re not planning for any departures in that position, and if he does then he will be adequately replaced.”
These days: Sportitalia and Calciomercato.com are confident Juve are in talks with Cagliari to take Nandez on loan.
Now Cagliari are more prepared to accept a loan without obligation to buy at the end of the season, and Nandez has also been linked with Torino and Napoli.
A possible solution could be including Kaio Jorge as part of an exchange of loans, although Salernitana are also interested in the Brazilian striker.
NOW:
A deal has reportedly been done with Cagliari to take Uruguay international Nahitan Nandez on loan with option to buy.
However, JuBentus need to clear out someone from their midfield first and those are proving difficult to shift.
