Lidt om Fætter Rico nu hvor vi skal vente små to måneder før vi ser ham i den smukke hvide trøje:
Racing (Argentina) v Guarani (Paraguay) -- Federico Santander
When Paraguay´s 30-man provisional squad for the Copa America was announced, Federico Santander was very disappointed to see that his name had not been included -- a feeling that his performances in this year´s Libertadores would seem to justify.
Paraguay are hardly overflowing with good young strikers, and with six goals in the competition, Santander, a few days away from his 24th birthday, has been the cutting edge of 2015´s surprise side. He is an old fashioned centre forward, strong enough to play a lone role up front, good enough with his back to goal to link the play and with enough speed to pose a threat when played behind the line. Racing know all about this -- in part because he scored a superb goal against them when the two sides met in the group phase, holding off two defenders and crashing a shot in off the bar. But also because Santander played for Racing in 2012. It was not an outstanding time for the player or for the club, and he was soon back home, with Guarani where his career began.
He may not be there for much longer. Santander´s form this year may not have been sufficient to get him on the plane to the Copa America, but it has surely placed him in the shop window. First, though, he will want to give Racing another reminder of the talent they let slip.
