celtic lead the way with new pitch innovation

CELTIC are the first club in Scotland to use the state-of-the-art SGL Concept for treating the pitch at Paradise.
And Celtic Park will join some of the most famous sporting arenas in the world in using this technology to ensure the quality of the playing surface.
The SGL Concept is for growing grass under any condition in any stadium, even during winter.
By controlling all growth factors such as light, temperature, CO2 , water, air and nourishment SGL makes it possible to have optimal grass growth under every condition. The use of assimilation lighting is an important factor in the success of the SGL concept.
Among the other venues to use the SGL Concept are some of European football’s top stadia, including the Nou Camp in Barcelona, Old Trafford, the Emirates Stadium, Anfield and Wembley used SGL Concept, while Twickenham Rugby Stadium, Croke Park Stadium in Dublin and the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, Australia, also use it.
Celtic Park Stadium Manager Robin Buchanan said: “SGL works at a number of stadia in the English Premier League and the results have been excellent.
“For many years Celtic Park has been renowned as having one of the best pitches in the UK, and credit for this goes to our award-winning groundsman, John Hayes, and his team of highly-qualified staff.
“As one of Europe’s biggest clubs, it is important that we always continue to progress and make any improvements where possible.
“We are sure that by using the SGL Concept, we will ensure that the hallowed turf at Celtic Park will continue to be the best in the business.”
Nico van Vuuren, Managing Director at SGL, is also looking forward to working with Celtic.
He said: “Celtic is a beautiful club with a lot of history, a great stadium and a fantastic fan base.
"We are proud to be working at Celtic Park for the next years and although Glasgow’s environment is difficult for grass growth, we are sure we can give Celtic a pitch that is in top condition throughout the entire year.”
